THE HOCKADAY SCHOOL

SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2025
6:30 PM
THE HOCKADAY SCHOOL
EUGENE MCDERMOTT HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dear Hockaday Parents, Alumnae, Faculty, and Friends:
Welcome to the 2025 Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit, Mardi Gras. The Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit Committee has planned a fun evening for the community and is delighted to welcome our treasured Hockaday Parents, Faculty, Staff, Trustees, and Alumnae to the New Orleans style festivities, which include live music, dancing, creole cuisine, cocktails, silent and live auctions, games, and the Sewell Luxury Automobile Raffle.
Tonight’s proceeds will benefit The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence. The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence endows Hockaday with additional resources that allow the School to attract and retain the best and brightest faculty. The Fund supports professional development, graduate studies, faculty salaries, and other enrichment opportunities for our faculty.
Please enjoy perusing the program for this year’s Benefit, which details the one-of-a-kind auction items that await you on this special night, and lists the many people, businesses, donors, and volunteers who make this extraordinary celebration of Hockaday’s community possible. Your generosity speaks volumes to our girls about the importance you place on their education and strengthens our ability to attract and retain the best faculty for our students.
With appreciation, Laura
As you celebrate with friends, please remember the hundreds of donors and volunteers who make this night possible and toast Julie Ahmed and Lauren Lapeyre Brown, our Benefit Chairs, and Bonner Mead Allen ’94, our HPA President.
Dear Friends,
Thank you for joining us as we celebrate Hockaday, letting the good times roll!
This evening has been a year in the making, and we are so excited to watch it come to life with each one of you as we step into the French Quarter to bid on incredible items and experiences, roll the dice at the casino tables, enjoy libations, Cajun cuisine, and dancing to the music of Emerald City All Stars.
It is through the generosity of our own Hockaday community, as well as the broader Dallas landscape, that this evening and its offerings have been made possible. Because of the selfless gifts of time, volunteering brainpower and creativity, and humbling financial support from both inside and outside of our Hockaday community, we have an incredible evening in store!
Proceeds from this year’s efforts will support The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence, which provides Hockaday’s faculty with opportunities for professional growth and development and the chance to reenergize and refocus themselves as learners in their profession and innovators in the classroom.
Leading this event has been a true honor and privilege. While the annual HPA Benefit may only last for a single evening, the community spirit, voluntarism, fundraising, outreach, and connection occurs over the course of an entire year. From Special Occasions to Merchandise, the Raffle to Silent and Live Auctions, and Underwriting to Sponsorships, each facet of this evening has been spearheaded by dozens of volunteers and hundreds of generous donors. Without each one of them, none of this would be possible. So, to each one of you in attendance and each one of you who has not only offered your time but gone above and beyond in the name of volunteering, we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts.
With sincere appreciation to all joining us,
SUPPORTING ITS FACULTY IS ONE OF HOCKADAY’S MOST SIGNIFICANT FUNDRAISING PRIORITIES.
Hockaday’s excellent teachers enrich our girls’ education and bring a freshness and vitality to the classrooms that is uniquely engaging to the young women of Hockaday.
The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence allows Hockaday to attract and retain the best and brightest faculty who prepare our girls to lead exceptional lives. The Fund supports professional development, graduate studies, faculty salaries, and other enrichment.
Hockaday supports faculty excellence by funding professional development opportunities that include a combination of conferences, workshops, and study grants that support academics, curriculum development, and professional growth.
The faculty who benefit from these professional experiences supported by The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence return to their classrooms, studios, and playing fields energized and inspired with new ways to help Hockaday girls embrace learning!

Philippe Bertho is classically trained having enrolled in art school in Reims, France in the early 1990s. There, he spent considerable time studying decorative trompe l’oeil painting. Tromp l’oeil (“to fool the eye”) is a technique used by artists to create the illusion of a 3rd dimension on a flat surface. It is obvious from Bertho’s artwork that he fools much more than the eye…he draws one in by the heart and also quite frequently by the funny bone.
