They say you need to “dream big” to reach your goals. Well, Hoffman Fabrics has the fabric equivalent for quilters reaching for the brass ring in their quilting artistry. Dream Big is the new remarkable collection of photorealistic panels being produced under the Hoffman Spectrum Digital brand. Dream Big features the artwork of Hoffman Signature Designer Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero, and is the sequel to her best-selling Supernova digital-print that suggests a starburst. Like the Supernova line, Dream Big will be offered as a 43-inchsquare digitally printed, 100% cotton panel in multiple colors. The supersized floral print offers an incredibly unique and versatile background for appliqué quilt projects. Of course, it stands on its own as the focus point in a panel quilt. Still, the panel can be sub-cut to achieve textural areas of interest in a pieced quilt.

What is

Bark Cloth?

Bark cloth is back! Well, it never really goes away because we remain fascinated with its texture and boldness. Its origins can be traced to many cultures around the world. Inner bark harvested from trees was used to create the material, which was decorated with tribal art and made into ceremonial clothing. Today’s cotton bark cloth suggests the traditional art form with its bark-like “nubby weave” texture. Hoffman Bark Cloth, with its super soft hand and lovely drape, offers more versatility for making not only quilts, but also garments, tote bags, home-dec pillows and curtains. Our trend-spotting eyes see bark cloth’s popularity rising again, thanks to its natural-feeling texture and artistic character. We researched our 93-year-old textile library and selected some of our most successful designs to create two new modern bark cloth collections that capture the spirit of this dare-to-be-noticed textile. This retro-floral bark cloth lets quilters and sewists bring a touch of contemporary vintage into their homes. On The Lanaiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lush tropical motifs reflect the designs that burst into the garment and home-decor scenes in the late 1940s, with bark cloth shirts and furnishings being brought home by U.S. personnel stationed in Hawaii. The popular rage for exotic South Seas and Pacific style continued into the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;50s and 60s, with tropical themes, flowers, leaves and even feathers dominating the look.

We captured the enthusiasm for the Space Race in this bark cloth line that showcases the “atomic imagery” on everyone’s mental radar at a time when atom bomb “duck and cover” drills were part of everyday life. Bark cloth’s nature-inspired themes popular in the 1940s and ‘50s gave way to geometrics, increasingly abstract designs, and Atomic Age motifs like flying saucers and boomerangs. Home décor followed suit with the rise of mid-century modern design showcasing clean lines and industrial styling (the Eames chair, anyone?).

We’ve panned the gold and mined the silver for our new metallic-accent Hoffman Bali Batiks. They’re lightly embellished with shimmery metallic accents of silver or gold that add the perfect touch of bling to any project.
