Mixed-media collage + digital quilting = the whimsical bunny, frog, owl, fox and
other creatures of Forest Friends. Digital printing perfectly captures the multiple complex art techniques in Connie’s original artwork, from painting to handwriting to stamping and many other styles. Nature is a constant source of inspiration for illustrator Connie Haley. She is a former advertising agency owner turned illustrator whose artwork has graced Precious Moments keepsake ornaments, Storkie Express greeting cards, Trends International calendars, and Pink Promises giftware for Carson Home, among other products.
“All my art is created digitally, and the best way to describe it is that it's sort of like Connie Haley digital quilting,” Haley said. “Sometimes I begin with a photo, or collage of photos, and turn them into a digital painting. Sometimes I make assorted patterns and background designs, then cut pieces and put them together to create an image.” “When you're working digitally,” she continued, “you can combine art techniques and materials that aren't possible in real life. The creative options are endless, which is what makes it so much fun.”

HoFFman Bali BatikS Made to Inspire. At Hoffman Fabrics, this is our design credo.
Each yard of Hoffman Bali Batiks is a hand-dyed fabric made at “the Hoffman House” on the island of Bali. Each motif and each color are created with care, and with quilters as our top priority. Quilters can rely on Hoffman for sophisticated, artistic batiks made with superior-quality quilting cottons of the highest weave. Organic shapes and florals lead the way for our 2015 Fall-Winter crop of Hoffman Bali Batiks. Florals run from natural-look, long-stemmed orchids (Style #N2812) to stylized 5½-inch blooms (Style #N2800). Several of our “textural geometrics” feature natural brush strokes, like our Style #N2804 chevron, Style #N2803 clamshells, and Style #N2801 curlicue circles. Organic shapes and forms of Style #N2802 (slices), #N2807 (falling leaves), and Style #N2811 (static dots) are Nature-inspired. Stylized florals in Style #N2809 and #N2810 are infused with a bold, freehand energy. Behold 46 new colors in our Style 885 batik blender series. Our Style 885 is the “batik dot that roars!” It is the perfect blender for any quilt and goes as well with screenprints as other batiks.

We’ve pushed the “halo effect” on several designs. The halo is an outline or ghosted areas in the batik motifs. The halo can be subtle or bold, and in a few cases might suggest an “acid wash” look. Haloing is exclusive to Hoffman, and we’re delighted to offer this wonderfully artistic element that you won’t find in anywhere else in quilting cottons.

offman Wild by Vanessa Stevens – Our new batik kits offer precut and prefused fabrics designed and color-coordinated so that piecing is easy, fast and fun. Attach pieces with raw-edge appliqué to create a 20-by-30-inch wall-hanging. Free-motion stitching quilts the piece and further accents the fabric motifs. It’s your choice to add binding or use free-motion stitching to finish the piece with a decorative. Three designs showing naturalistic wildlife are available: a raccoon, deer and fox. Each design is offered in two color ways (either a natural or bright palette). Each design can stand on its own as a wall-hanging or the centerpiece of a quilt. Combine the raccoon, deer and fox to create a wall-hanging trio to make a dramatic statement piece. Add further embellishments to “make it your own.”

“Indah” is Balinese for beauty. It’s the first word that came to mind when we embarked on creating these rich, solid-colored fabrics for quilters. Because we create at the highest levels, our Indah Solids are made with premium 100% combed cotton woven with very fine size 40 thread. This ensures these fabrics have a very soft hand, yet are highly durable. Our new Indah Solids are dyed by hand in a process that’s environmentally sustainable, thanks to the modern filtration system in place at our factory in Bali. This system clears the rinsewater of exhausted dyes and returns it to a neutral pH before being released to the environment. As a result, we’ve kept a very small carbon footprint on the island paradise of Bali.

Emily has spent many years working in ceramics and ancient mediums, and has found considerable influence in the tribal designs of ancient times and vintage fabrics. She is inspired by today’s positive and vibrant colors and is interested in the experimentation of natural, organic shapes, combined with modern fabric printing techniques.
