This 30-credit program provides substantial training in a variety of important areas, such as networking, security, Web engineering, distributed computing, mobile application development, project management, database systems, and computer vision. Students will build mobile applications for cellphones, learn about real-world ethical hacking and counterapproaches to threats, analyze the most recent malware and viruses, construct sophisticated and scalable Web services, define privacy policies for large organizations, and develop exciting computer vision applications.
At Hofstra, professors are both noted scholars and excellent teachers, and will offer expertise in myriad topics, including computer vision, artificial intelligence, data mining, software engineering, information security, cognitive neuroscience, computational algebra, and logic and programming languages. The program is also supported by a strong adjunct faculty who have extraordinary industry experience.
The curriculum also offers a strong core in the fundamental areas of computer science, including algorithms, operating systems and programming languages. In addition to elective courses, students can concentrate in an individual area of interest by taking up to two independent study/ research courses under the close supervision of a faculty expert. The program concludes with a comprehensive project or master’s thesis. “One of the best decisions I made in my life was to enroll in Hofstra’s computer science program.
