BREAKOUT SESSION 1 1. Organized and Effective Officer Transition… Room 145 Lauren Purcaro: Director, Center for Student Involvement, Adelphi University How to create a lasting legacy within your organization and the F&S Community by training future executive board members. Through discussion and exercise attendees will learn the benefits and needs of training future e-board members and helping their organizations to excel and avoid the leadership roller coaster that often occurs. 2. Beyond Hazing: Aligning Your Chapter’s Values... MPR West Anna Zinko: representative of Alpha Epsilon Phi This presentation will go in depth about hazing and not only the reasons it is detrimental to physical and mental health, but also what can happen to your chapter and the serious legal action that can be taken. This session will give Hofstra University’s Greek community a much deeper insight into the importance of banishing hazing as a part of new member education and initiation so that it can continue to prosper and grow the right way. 3. The DISC Inventory of Leadership: What’s your style?... Room 143 Robyn Kaplan: Associate Director of OSLA, Hofstra University Does conflict arise in your organization? Is it always handled perfectly? Probably not. Do you know the kind of leader you are? Perhaps! But do you know the kind of leader you are perceived to be in your organization? Possibly not. You will leave this session having learned the hybrid of leadership you gravitate towards (especially in a conflict situation). You will identify strengths that benefit your group and how to keep yours or others weaknesses from hurting your organization. 4. #S.E.R.V.E (Save, Encourage, Rebuild, Volunteer, Experience)… SC Theater Melissa Mayard: Graduate Assistant for Service and Leadership, Hofstra University As leaders with letters on campus, you are consistently reaching out to the community ready and willing to help in any way that you can. Each time you help clean up a park, provide natural disaster relief, prepare and serve food at your local homeless shelter, you make the world a better place. On the other hand, have you realized that you can serve others daily without a grand plan or effort? Come learn about the various aspects of community service and non-profit organizations that need leaders like you to help them serve their mission. 5. Who Makes the Cut?... Room 141 Sarah Young & Lawrence Daves: Hofstra University No New Members, NPC Sophomore and Junior year students ONLY… Are you a sophomore or junior in a Panhellenic Sorority? Stop by this session to learn more about your recruitment style and the smart way to recruit and retain members through rounds. 6. Resume, Cover Letter, and Interview Tips for Greeks… Room 219 Kaitlyn Riley: Graduate Assistant, Career Center, Hofstra University In this session we will discuss how to write clear, concise, and detailed resumes and cover letters while incorporating your Fraternity & Sorority Life experiences. Learn how to highlight your involvement in Fraternity & Sorority Life and sell yourself as a leader and member of a Greek organization. We will also discuss interview advice and all the transferable skills Fraternity & Sorority Life has to offer! 7. What Would You Do?... Greenhouse Brendan Caputo: Assistant Director for OSLA, Hofstra University Have you ever been in a situation where you weren’t sure what to do? Did you wish you did something different? This session covers topics relating to hazing, the bystander effect, and how to handle situations that Hofstra students encounter every day. We will discuss unique scenarios and how you can “Step Up” and make a difference.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER Joshua Fredenburg is a National Speaker, Author, Leadership/Relationship Expert, Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, and Generation Y Television Commentator that speaks on current issues and is on a mission as a National Speaker to empower at least 1 BILLION LEADERS WORLDWIDE with effective leadership strategies that will enable them to make a positive impact in their community, nation, and world! For the past seven years, not only has Joshua appeared as a television guest on the Daily Buzz Morning Show, BET, the Wayne Brady Show, the KTLA Morning Show in Los Angeles, and many other familiar radio and television programs throughout the country, but he has also served as a dynamic Keynote Speaker in 40 different states for lectures, leadership conferences, retreats and trainings at high schools, colleges, and corporate events. In addition to his successful speaking and television career, Joshua has published four books with his newest relationship book entitled, “50 Questions Before You Say I Do�. He also has developed an annual national leadership conference, Circle of Change Leadership Conference, that prepares student leaders in college for executive-level leadership positions after graduation and connects student leaders with executives from companies such as Pepsi, Columbia Pictures, Hewlett Packard, CNN, Fox Searchlight Productions, UPS, VH-1, Nestle, and American Airlines, to name a few. Joshua also mentors and coaches student leaders throughout the country, writes a popular monthly newsletter on leadership and relationship, is pursuing a PhD in Organizational Leadership at Nova Southeastern College, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Lois Swan Leadership Center at California State University, Long Beach. As a Keynote Speaker, Joshua has been well received by audiences for his amazing energy, inspiring and engaging messages, insightful wisdom and knowledge about leadership, and strong commitment to helping emerging leaders become great leaders for the 21st Century. He has also been very popular among high school and college audiences because of his positive attitude, exciting presentations, authentic message, and strong ability to connect and make his message relatable to diverse audiences throughout the country. 4

Branding Your Online Image… MPR West Alison Charlebois: Career Services Advisor, Baruch College The secret is out; people (and more importantly, employers) now use the internet to learn more about Y-O-U! Instead of trying to disguise your online presence, attend this workshop to learn about the ways you can harness this opportunity to promote yourself in a positive manner! 2. Reality Bites: The Real World Perspective after Graduation… Room 145 Amanda Horvat: Associate Director, Residential Programs, Hofstra University As a member of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Hofstra you have been given so much opportunity to fine tune your leadership skills. What happens once you graduate? How can you take everything you have learned here, pay it forward and put it to good use in “The Real World”? This session will be a no-holds barred discussion on how to use your skills as a member of a fraternity or sorority in real life situations. Learn how to sell yourself to potential employers and how to hold other members of your organizations accountable to the same set of expectations that you learned from. 3. What’s up with the robes? How to Use Traditions and Rituals to Create Powerful Experiences in Your Organization… Room 141 Rabbi Dave Siegel: Executive Director, Hofstra University Hillel Have you ever wondered why your national office and alumni make such a big deal about traditions and rituals? In this session we will discuss the origins of ritual, why traditions are important to Greek organizations, and how to successfully run a ritual event. We will also explore creating new traditions and how to implement ritual into your New Member Programs. 4. Did you hear about... ? Did you see this... ? Did you share that... ?... Room 143 Joe Ginese: First Year Specialist, Borough of Manhattan College Jack and Jill went up the hill. The Harlem Shake. Give a penny, take a penny. Phenomenons like these are sticky, spread fast, and prompt us to an action. Join this session to explore how your organization can be just like Jack & Jill, the Harlem Shake, and penny jars; sticky, spreading fast, and prompting action in others. 5. How to Lead your Organization… Greenhouse Nino Caridi: Alumni of Hofstra University and Delta Chi Have you ever dealt with the issue of distinguishing yourself as a leader within your organization? How do you balance business with brotherhood/sisterhood? There are many roles that a leader plays and there are different ways of approaching your leadership position and style. In this session we will discuss leading by example, how to motivate your members, and how to get your members to buy in or get out. 6. It’s All Greek to Me: How We Keep Hofstra Parents Informed and Involved… Room 219 Nolan Meditz: Office of Parent and Family Programs, Hofstra University When their kids go to college, as you’re well aware, parents get concerned. So, how do we inform them? Through social media, e-newsletters, events and various publications, the Office of Parent & Family Programs is able to reach out to parents, and keep them abreast of what is happening at Hofstra. We will discuss how your organization can ensure that parents are as well attended to as your members.
