How to Participate in General Room Selection

Who can Participate in the General Room Selection Process?
Current students living on campus during the spring semester are eligible to participate in the General Room Selection Process if they:
1. Have no outstanding balances with the Office of Student Financial Services.
2. Register full time for the fall 2024 semester.
3. Complete an online Housing Application.
Check List Prior to Participating in the General Selection Process
• Complete and Submit an updated housing application for Fall 2024.
• Create my roommate group if living in a multi-occupancy room.
• Ensure my requested roommate has submitted their application and accepted my roommate request.
• Log back into my housing application and select my Room by participating in the General Selection Process on my designated day.

Things to remember when selecting a multiple occupancy room with a Roommate Group
⮚If you are in a roommate group with a student that is of a higher class standing , that student can select a room for the group. (For example, if you are a First-year student in a roommate group with a Sophomore standing student, the Sophomore standing student can select the room for the group during the Sophomore student General Selection Process).
⮚If you are in a roommate group, you MUST assign EVERYONE in the roommate group in order to successfully select your room.
⮚The housing system will show you ALL ROOM TYPES that will fit your group.
Things to remember when selecting a multiple occupancy room with a Roommate Group
⮚All rooms/suites MUST Be Filled to CAPACITY or you will get an error message and will not be able to select a room.
⮚When selecting a room to accommodate your group, it is imperative that you filter by room type to ensure you are assigning you and your group to your desired room type choice (i.e. single, double, triple, quad, suite with/without lounge).
⮚If a room type filter DOES NOT appear, this means there is only one room type left to select from. Before selecting, be sure the room type that is showing is the room type you wish to select for your group.
What Happens If I Cannot Fill a Room to Capacity?
• Students can “Search For Roommates by Profile” to request a random roommate to fill the empty spaces.
• Students can reconfigure their roommate group and search for another room type (i.e. if you have 3 students in your roommate group and cannot find a fourth roommate to fill a 4 -person suite, consider selecting a high rise triple room or a triple suite.)
EXAMPLE-Residents NOT in a Roommate Group
Residents who are NOT in a roommate group MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
If you wish to reside in a multiple occupancy room with students you know, you will need to be in a roommate group.
▪ High Rise Single: This is a single bedroom in a high rise building with no inroom bathroom. Bathrooms are located at either ends of the hallway.
▪ Suite Single: (in suites that are partially filled.) This is a single bedroom within a suite that has either one or two bedrooms within the same suite, a shared lounge or without a lounge, and a shared in-suite bedroom. If you select this option, you will have random suitemates.
▪ Super Single: (in suites that are partially filled.) This a single room in a two bedroom suite (one resident in each bedroom), shared lounge and shared insuite bathroom). If you select this option, you will have a random suitemate.
▪ Available spaces in multiple occupancy rooms: (i.e high rise double/triple quad, suite with/without lounge) that are partially filled. If you select this option, you will have random roommate(s) and/or suitemate(s).
EXAMPLE-Residents in a Roommate Group of Two
Residents in a roommate group of Two (2) MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
• High Rise Tower Double Rooms: Two students share one bedroom with no in room bathroom. Bathrooms are located at either ends of the hallway.
• Super Single Suites: Two bedrooms (one resident in each bedroom), a shared lounge and a shared in-suite bathroom. Residents MUST READ the room type they are selecting before they assign themselves or their roommates a room. It is a common mistake that residents select this suite not realizing each resident will be placed in their OWN single bedroom (single rooms are a higher priced room type).
EXAMPLE-Residents in a Roommate Group of Two
Residents in a roommate group of Two (2) MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
• 3 Person Suite (in suites that are partially filled): This suite has one single bedroom (a random suitemate will be assigned to the single bedroom that has ALREADY been selected during the room selection process) and a double bedroom, with/without lounge, and a shared in-suite bathroom). Please note residents who select this room type configuration may be residing with an RA (Resident Assistant) who will be occupying the single bedroom. This room type configuration is extremely limited and usually NOT available during the General Selection process. Residents seeking this room type should have an alternative plan should this configuration be unavailable.
• Any available spaces within multiple occupancy rooms that are partially filled (i.e 3/4/5 person suites with/without lounges, high rise triples and high rise quads). Residents who select this option will be assigned random roommates and/or suitemates.
EXAMPLE-Residents in a Roommate Group of THREE
Residents in a roommate group of Three(3) MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
PLEASE NOTE: It is imperative that residents are aware that there are EXTREMELY limited rooms/suites that will accommodate ONLY THREE students. As such, it is crucial that residents in roommate groups of three have an alternative roommate plan.
• High Rise Tower Triple Room: Three students share one bedroom with no in-room bathroom. Bathrooms are located at either ends of the hallway.
• *Three Person Suite: This suite that has one single bedroom and one double bedroom, with/without lounge, and a shared in-suite bedroom.* This room type configuration is extremely limited and usually NOT available during the General Selection process. Residents seeking this room type should have an alternative plan should this configuration be unavailable.
EXAMPLE-Residents in a Roommate Group of THREE
• *Three “Single Room” Suite: This suite that has three single bedrooms and a shared in-suite bathroom. Residents MUST READ the room type they are selecting before they assign themselves or their roommates a room. This room type configuration is extremely limited and usually NOT available during the General Selection process. Residents seeking this room type should have an alternative plan should this configuration be unavailable.
• Any available spaces within multiple occupancy rooms or suites that are partially filled (i.e 4/5 person suites with/without lounges, high rise quads). Residents who select this option will be assigned random roommate(s) and/or suitemates.
EXAMPLE-Residents in a Roommate Group of FOUR
Residents in a roommate group of Four (4) MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
• High Rise Tower Quad Room: Four students share one bedroom with no in-room bathroom. Bathrooms are located at either ends of the hallway.
• Suite With a Lounge: These suites have two double bedrooms (two students in each bedroom), a shared lounge area, and a shared in-suite bathroom.
• Suite Without a Lounge: These suites have two double bedrooms (two students in each bedroom), and a shared in-suite bathroom.
• 5 Person Suite without lounge that are Partially Filled. There is a resident in a single bedroom that has ALREADY been selected during the room selection process, two double bedrooms and a shared in-suite bathroom). Residents who select this option will be assigned a random suitemate. This room type configuration is extremely limited and usually NOT available during the General Selection process.
EXAMPLE-GRADUATE/LAW Residents NOT in a Roommate Group
Graduate/Law Residents who are NOT in a roommate group MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
• Single room in a Partially Filled suite: (A single bedroom in a 3 or 4 person suite (each resident has their own bedroom), shared kitchen, shared living area, and shared in-suite bathroom(s)). Residents who select this option will be assigned random suitemates.
• Vacant space in a Partially Filled Double Bedroom: (Two double bedrooms in a 4person suite (two students in each bedroom), a shared lounge area, and shared in-suite bathroom(s)). Residents who select this option will be assigned random roommate and random suitemates.
EXAMPLE-GRADUATE/LAW Residents in a
Roommate Group of TWO or THREE
Residents in a roommate group of Two (2) or Three (3) MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
• Single room in a Partially Filled suite: A single bedroom in a 3 or 4 person suite (each resident has their own bedroom), shared kitchen, shared living area, and shared in-suite bathroom(s). Residents who select this option will be with random suitemates.
• Vacant space in a Partially Filled Double Bedroom: Two double bedrooms in a 4person suite (two students in each bedroom), shared lounge area, and shared insuite bathroom(s). Residents who select this option will be assigned a random roommate and random suitemates.
EXAMPLE-GRADUATE/LAW Residents in a
Roommate Group of Four
Residents in a roommate group of Four (4) MAY have the ability to select the following room types during general selection (subject to availability).
• Single room: Single bedrooms in a 4-person suite (each resident has their own bedroom), shared kitchen, shared living area, and shared in-suite bathroom(s).
• Double bedroom in a 4-person suite: Two double bedrooms in a 4-person suite (two students in each bedroom), shared lounge area, and shared in-suite bathroom(s).
How to Select a Room
• Access your Housing Application by logging onto my.Hofstra.edu
• Under Student Services, Click on the Residence Life menu, and then select click on “my

• BEFORE you click on the “Save and Continue” button, be sure you confirm the building, floor and room number as this will be your housing assignment for the next academic year.
• Once confirmed, click on the “Save and Continue” button. You have now successfully participated in the General Room Selection Process!
• Students will receive an email to their the General Room Selection Process.
