The Center for “Race,” Culture and Social Justice presents
INTERCULTURALITY: BRIDGING THE DIVIDE A Lecture by Mustapha Masrour, PhD Director of the Language Learning Center, Director of Foreign Language Education, and Co-director of LOTE and TESOL Education, Hofstra University
Wednesday, April 4, 2018, 11:15 a.m.-12:40 p.m. (Common Hour) Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Axinn Library, First Floor, South Campus The pursuit of an American education is a draw for many international students. These students express a desire to establish deep and meaningful bonds and relationships with Americans. While educators plan a fully integrated experience for these students, they often notice the formation of homogenous cultural clusters both in and outside the classroom. This isolation prevents mutually enriching growth experiences. Exploring the academic, professional, and personal life experiences of diverse community members is critical to fusing cultures more harmoniously. Dr. Mustapha Masrour explores the ways in which Hofstra community members can effectively create a rich and welcoming society, capable of celebrating different cultural perspectives. He discusses how to implement an engaging and humanitarian pedagogy. Dr. Masrour has served on Hofstra’s faculty for 27 years. In addition to his directorships, he is also an instructor of special methods in foreign language education, a supervisor of student teachers, and an instructor of post/neocolonial Francophone literatures. Prior to coming to Hofstra University, Dr. Masrour worked as a high school English language instructor in Casablanca, Morocco. He was a director of Peace Corps language education programs and a teacher trainer in Rabat, Morocco.
This event is free and open to the public.
