Sorority life... Sisterhood is the foundation of all aspects of sorority life. All of the activities you participate in are special because you share them with your sisters. Membership provides you with an opportunity for personal growth and individual achievement within a sisterhood of support. Your accomplishments are shared and your goals are encouraged. From Greek Week to Fall Fest, from philanthropy events to study sessions, sorority women at Hofstra are not only involved, but Vineyard & leaders in their respective organizations. They are Winery some of the most dedicated and driven students on this campus. Joining a sorority is the beginning of a new experience with new friends within a home away from home.

Formal Recruitment The formal recruitment process is the primary method by which Panhellenic sororities acquire new members. It is very important to keep an open mind February 10th: Meet Your Rho Chi during this process. All of the chapters at Hofstra February 11th: Round 1 have unique experiences to offer and by participating in formal recruitment, you are taking February 12th: Round 2 the first step toward an enriching experience as a February 17: Pref Round sorority member at Hofstra University. Keep in February 18th: Bid Day mind that recruitment is a mutual selection process. Participation in Hofstra University Panhellenic Recruitment does not guarantee member to a sorority. All participants will visit our 6 National Panhellenic Conference chapters, and our 1 local chapter in the first round of recruitment. However, the remaining rounds of recruitment are by invitation only. At the end of each round all participants will rank which chapters they would like to visit again. Likewise, the chapters will invite back Potential New Members (PNM) whom they believe will be a good fit for their chapter. Never be afraid to ask questions during rounds! Recruitment Dates

Round
1
Round 1 is the Scholarship Round. You will see all seven sororities and they will discuss their commitment to academics and how they incorporate scholarship into their membership. You will have 35 minutes to spend with each of the sororities. This is a casual round; so nice jeans or a casual dress with comfortable shoes are most appropriate on this day.
Round
2
Round 2 is the Philanthropy Round. You will have the opportunity to see up to 5 sororities for 45 minutes. Sororities will talk about their philanthropic and service work as a chapter. This round is a little more formal, so plan outfits accordingly, but remember, comfort is key!
Recruitment
Counselors
Each PNM will be assigned a recruitment counselor, or Rho Chi. This person is a current sorority member who is specially trained to guide potential new members through the recruitment process. Do not be afraid ask your Rho Chi questions and talk to them frequently; they are there to answer questions, listen your concerns and feelings, and talk about important decisions. Rho Chis have temporarily given up their letters, which is called disassociation, until the recruitment period is over. Please respect disassociation and if you know what organization your Rho Chi belongs to, please do not share that information with other participants. They are meant to remain an unbiased resource to help coach you through the exciting, but at times, stressful process.

TION
It is important to understand and be informed of the financial costs of joining a sorority. Each sorority has different financial obligations associated with membership. You should plan to ask questions on how sororities schedule payments and other fiscal expectations. All dues listed in this packet are an estimation given by the sorority. Please understand that dues may vary. The most important thing to keep in mind regarding dues is that sorority membership is an investment. The return on the investment of becoming a Panhellenic woman is invaluable. With all the opportunities provided by sorority membership, it is well worth the cost.
Preference Round is the last round of recruitment. You can potentially see up to 2 sororities, for 60 minutes. This round is themed around sisterhood and should show give you insight into what membership in that sorority would be. This is a formal round and it is suggested cocktail or semi formal attire be worn.

if i go through recruitment do i have to join a sororit
You are not obligated and may withdraw at any point. If you accept a bid to a sorority, you may leave at any point, but you are contracted to that sorority for a year. This means you would need to wait a year to come out for recruitment again.

Each sorority has a different legacy policy. Some sororities might require you to claim your legacy through their nationals website before recruitment starts. No chapter is required to offer you membership due to your legacy, but special consideration is given. You should not feel pressure to join a certain sorority because of your legacy status.
What should i talk about during recruitment
?
rounds
It is important to be yourself during recruitment. Don't be afraid to ask questions! It is important for you to get to know the sorority just as it is important for the members to get to know you. Some common topics include sports, family, vacations, interests, hobbies, and school. Try to steer away from inappropriate topics such as alcohol, parties, men, etc. Remember to be yourself and have fun.

Terminology
Bid: An invitation for membership. Continuous Open Bidding (COB): An opportunity for chapters that do not reach quota or total during primary recruitment to bid to that number. The COB process is informal and not all chapters will participate. Intentional Single Preference: When a woman lists only one chapter on her membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement following preference round. Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA): This is a binding agreement signed by a PNM following the final preference event she attends. The PNM agrees to accept a bid from any chapter she lists on her MRABA. If sh receives a bid to a chapter she lists and later denies it, she is ineligible to join another organization on that campus until the beginning of the next primary recruitment period. Potential New Member (PNM): Any woman who is eligible to participate in the Panhellenic recruitment process. Quota: The number of potential new members to which each chapter can offer bids during recruitment. Snap Bid: An option available to chapters that did not match to quota during bid matching; this takes place before bids are distributed. Snap Bids are limited to any woman who participated in at least one event during recruitment. Total: The allowable chapter size on a college campus.
