Frank G. Zarb School of Business, M.B.A./M.S. Graduate Employment Report
2009
Message From the Director of Zarb Graduate Business Career Services Let me begin by thanking Zarb School Dean Salvatore Sodano, Zarb Graduate Business Career Services Associate Director Lisa Kellerman, and Zarb graduate assistants Himani Sharma, Carmela Rossi and Daniel McCormack for their assistance and untiring support. Without their unwavering commitment, strong business skills, and professionalism, we would not be able to provide the multitude of career-related services to Zarb M.B.A./M.S. students, alumni and employers. We are grateful to our faculty, our alumni, and our employment partners, who continue to recognize the value of the Zarb graduate curriculum and the value of our students to their organizations, especially in these challenging economic times. I am very pleased to present to you our 2009 Employment Report, which reflects the progress and successes of our M.B.A./M.S. graduates in recent years. The following pages document some employment trends and recruitment statistics, comparing the most recent graduating class and classes of the previous five years. Our report shows that 98 percent of the 2007-2008 full-time M.B.A. class had reported accepting a job within three months of graduation – an all-time high. Our top functional areas of employment were in finance/accounting (35 percent of our graduates) and marketing/sales (27 percent of our graduates). Survey results for full-time employment showed that 43 percent of our graduates entered the financial services industry, 16 percent accepted jobs in consulting, and 11 percent entered manufacturing. Of our 2008-2009 full-time M.B.A. class, 75 percent accepted a job within three months of graduation, and 86 percent had accepted a job within six months of graduation. The economic recession strongly affected last year’s graduates, with an all-time high unemployment rate that reached over 9 percent, resulting in much more competition and a longer job search for the majority of our graduates. However, with continued employer outreach activities and increased visibility with prestigious rankings of the Zarb School of Business by U.S. News & World Report, Business Week and The Princeton Review, 2008-2009 job and internship opportunities posted by employers through our online system increased by 64% over 2007-2008.
