ShaTin Elderly Day Care Centre

School Based Project

Location: Tai Chung Kiu Road, Sha Tin, Hong Kong

Design Year: May, 2019

Instructor: Dr. Andrea Palmioli

In this project, instead of designing a elderly daycare center, it is better to recognized it is a public sevice project. The targert users are not just the elderly but also the general public. Normally, elderly centre would be mistaken by the public to be a boring and prison-liked building. However, in this project it is designed to open up more and more public spcaes instead of constructing the building form and reconnected the in-and-out side of the elderly centre with the ShaTin district.

In the design, it prvides a lot of vertical opening to lead into more natural light into the building in order to maintain a bright environment for elderly. Moreover, center void design is going to break through the building and let some landscape elements be a part of the project, this responses the mental health issue inside the elderly centre. On the other hand, ideas are proposed on the landscape design and encouraging more different social activities engaged in the site
