A wall that separated culture, religion, politics, beliefs and family. Looking into the ability of architecture to control displacement pushed forward the potential to create this at different variations of displacement and it is what the bath & library does. Celebrating the success of this typology I decided to clash 2 programmes that would not function together under normal circumstances. On the one side water and fire and on the other paper and books all brought to together by the interplay of people from one side to the other, crossing paths.

Istanbul is a fascinating city with multiple architectural problematics. I tackled the most imminent issue of earthquakes prone to this area. The lack of knowledge about the tremors, the non existing earthquake resilient typology in construction, the vast and unique city growth [conurbation], the need to preserve the cityÂ´s heritage and culture. All resolved on a site on the border of the cityÂ´s historical quarter, the rural and the urban. A site that used to function as a natural raw gas treatment plant. An incredibly unique and vast site.

- Past hydraulic forces now power a dynamic LECTURE ARENA as part of the didactic nature of the site -

- The re-engineered mechanics provide dynamic seating, roofing and shelter from the forces of nature -

The artificial cloud catcher [passive mode] catches the vapour clouds released from the system and recycles the water back into the system. The warning system [active mode] red pigments from the botanical site studies is released into the steam vent creating a visual warning of an imminent earthquake in addition to the traditional warning measures.
