As part of an ambitious expansion plan, UPMC is building a new Vision and Rehabilitation Tower on its Mercy Campus in Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood; bringing clinicians, researchers, educators and industry partners together to accelerate the process of translating research into innovative treatments for visually impaired patients. SIZE 410,000 sq. ft. SERVICES Architecture, Medical Planning, Laboratory Planning (with Jacobs) Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainable Design INNOVATIVE FEATURES • Chris Downey, one of the world’s few practicing blind architects, contributed to the design team’s strategies that help eye patients navigate through the building. • An outdoor Rehabilitation Garden garden will offer patients a safe and healing environment in which to prepare for real-life experiences. • The building contains all the missions of an Academic Health Center; the design includes a Collaboration Stair, linking Research, Clinical Trials and Education/Conference spaces.

The new Correll Pavilion represents Grady Health System’s largest capital investment in 30 years. HOK designed the 10-story ambulatory surgical and outpatient facility, which is adjacent to Grady Memorial Hospital downtown. The Pavilion houses outpatient surgery, imaging, rehabilitation, specialty clinics and three pharmacies. SIZE 594,915 sq. ft. SERVICES Architecture, Engineering, ESG Consulting, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainable Design INNOVATIVE FEATURES • The Pavilion expands clinical capacity by 45% and operating rooms by 25%, allowing Grady to add over 200 hospital beds by relocating outpatient services. • It contains six operating rooms with space for two more. • A parking garage for 600 vehicles is integrated into the structure.

Whether a child and their family need to see one specialist for a single visit or will need the services of clinicians over a lifetime, their goal is to provide a destination that allows OHI to provide the very best pediatric healthcare for every child. The New Acute Hospital (NAH) at Kai Tak Development Area will be a significant addition to Hong Kong’s healthcare infrastructure. More than just a hospital, it supports a larger strategic plan for the future of healthcare in the region. The NAH is part of the Ten-year Hospital Development Plan conceived by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The plan is a response to the growing and aging population of Kowloon. The hospital’s location in the Kowloon Central Cluster positions it to meet the rising demand for medical services. SIZE 693,000 sq. ft. The Hybl Center is the product of an innovative collaboration between the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and local healthcare provider Centura Health. It is one of four unique venues created as part of a public initiative to position Colorado Springs as a “City of Champions” hub for sports and fitness. This first-of-its-kind complex integrates undergraduate and graduate education with clinical practice and research in a sports medicine and performance environment. SIZE 104,500 sq. ft. SERVICES Architecture, Programming, Interior Design, Lab Design, Planning INNOVATIVE FEATURES • The building design reflects the synergies between teaching and clinical settings that further the goals of students, patients, teachers and clinicians and lead to new discoveries in human health and performance. • The Center promotes the concept of “exercise as medicine.” Performance data recorded in labs throughout the facility help research teams and clinicians develop protocols that prevent injuries and develop strategies for healthy living. • The design team created intentional “collision” spaces to enhance collaboration and include a café, auditorium and seating areas for spontaneous interaction.

The facility serves as a wellness and counseling center, encompassing counseling, disability and psychological services, and includes spaces to support the new 50 meter pool adjacent to the building. The facility strategically separates athletics and aquatics on the first floor from the wellness and counseling center on the second floor in order to optimize the functionality and accessibility of the space. The Center anchors the athletic precinct for the campus, and has been designed to enhance the overall student life experience and foster social interaction. The facility features a versatile blend of both formal and informal gathering spaces, providing flexibility to accommodate a wide range of programs. It supports a diverse array of student activities that take place year-round. SIZE 31,000 sq. ft. SERVICES Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design INNOVATIVE FEATURES • The LEED Platinum facility was designed to be energy efficient and sustainable, further reinforcing UC Merced’s Triple Zero Commitment. The center surpasses the energy efficiency standards, diverting 75% of construction waste from landfills, reducing emissions by offering on-campus housing, conducting a Life Cycle Assessment to assess building material impact, and significantly cutting down on water usage through efficient fixtures and intelligent irrigation practices.

The new training facility for the Magic is designed to optimize performance and provide ample recovery space. The facility is programmed with strategic adjacencies that streamline efficiencies for players and staff. Leading training and recovery technologies, including an altitude chamber and hydrotherapy offerings as well as an expansive locker room. The facility also includes front office and hospitality spaces that celebrate the Orlando Magic’s brand and history. In collaboration with AdventHealth, the facility features an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic centered on community health and wellness. The medical center addresses the holistic health needs of both athletes and the community providing orthopedics, primary care, sports medicine, imaging, rehabilitation and sports performance care. The design balances connectivity and security, considering both the needs of elite athletes and the needs of the community. SIZE 130,000 sq. ft. SERVICES Architecture, Experience Design, Interiors, Medical Planning, Planning + Urban Design, Programming INNOVATIVE FEATURES • Indoor-outdoor training spaces include turf areas, an incline ramp and stairs, a force plate, traditional weight racks, Keiser strength machines, a medicine ball wall and a lap pool. • Recovery amenities include an altitude chamber, massage suites, NormaTec suite, hyperbaric chamber, float pod, a cryotherapy room as well as hot and cold recovery pools and a treadmill pool.

The Atlanta Hawks’ new practice facility is a first-of-its-kind training and sports medicine center for the Atlanta Hawks and Emory Healthcare. The project combines the Atlanta Hawks’ dedicated practice facility and Emory Healthcare’s sports medicine center as well as a high performance training facility. The project features the most advanced technology in sports medicine and athlete care and takes advantage of synergies, promoting a spirit of wellness. SIZE 90,000 sq. ft. SERVICES Architecture, Programming, Interior Design, Experience Design INNOVATIVE FEATURES • Emory Healthcare Courts – It features two full-length basketball courts with direct access to expanded athletic performance training areas, a film room, and a fully dedicated recovery area including cryotherapy, sensory deprivation tanks and in-ground hydrotherapy. • Emory Sports Medicine Center and Emory Physical Therapy – Emory’s entire sports-medicine division operates within this facility. The center has the most advanced technology in preventative and rehabilitative treatment and sports performance training. • Peak Performance Project – P3 services elite-level athletes from around the world, integrating sports science to assess athlete movement and performance and prescribe individualized optimization plans.
