“REBEL HEART” UNLEASHED By: Nancy Esteves (nanholalatinos@gmail.com)

M

adonna Louise Ciccone is her own greatest work of art. This Icon has transformed, challenged, provoked, and reinvented beauty, fashion and music with her unique and audacious style. Consistently controversial, she was responsible for giving feminism a makeover throughout the Eighties, shattering sexual boundaries and challenging social and religious traditions. Media-savvy Madonna made her mark by making headlines-- whether it was by reinventing her image, infuriating the Vatican, outraging conservatives, or fighting for self-expression, gay rights, and human rights in general. Now she charges full speed ahead with her latest invention and unleashes-- “Rebel Heart” and of course, in outlandish Madonna fashion. And for many of us fans waiting to see the Material Girl in concert in Miami September 29 and 30, to kick off her 35-city “Rebel Heart” tour, we will have to patiently wait until January 23 and 24. Madonna told press: “As my fans already know, the show has to be perfect,” Madonna said in a press statement…I can promise you this show will be worth the wait.” And many Miami fans are patiently waiting as Miami loves Madonna, and Madonna loves Miami. MADONNA’S MIAMI LIFE She was a significant part of Miami in the ‘90s, and her presence arguably made Miami the celebrity hotspot it has since become. Madonna bought her Coconut Grove villa (north of Vizcaya and down the street from Sly Stallone) for $4.9 million in 1992. In July 2000, it sold for $7.5 million to a dog. Gunther the German shepherd (and head of Gunther Corp.) It’s an amazing story itself…

Rebellious, influential, vogue-- the legendary 57-year-old Lady M still stands up to the title of Queen of Pop after 30 plus years and looking amazing.

One of Madonna’s favorite South Beach hangouts was Blue Door at the Delano Hotel in the mid-’90s. Her daughter Lourdes was actually christened at St. Jude Melkite Catholic Church in downtown Miami in January 1997. Photographs taken of the celebrity in Miami was instrumental in giving the city its celebrity status. Hola Latinos Magazine Photographer -- a Madonna Paparazzi-- actually sold a photo of Madonna for $45,000. Our staff photographer, Lenny Furman, tells us the story of his first Encounter with Madonna… “April of 1997 at 4 am, Madonna was arriving with her friend Ingrid Casares at the grand opening of club Liquid, a most goddess moment of a major celebrity walking in front of me, nervously I clicked my camera rapidly and got three beautiful images, and that was the image of the first major celebrity that I ever got published in American magazines such as Cosmo, Red Book, and Good Housekeeping. She was wearing a peticoat making a fashion statement. After that I became hooked with going every weekend to South Beach to photograph more celebrities. I followed her when she was living in Miami and for years after when she came down for concerts; in fact, I made over $45,000 on just one image of Madonna. Continue

Madonna Daughter Lourdes Leon is half Cuban Her father Carlos Leon is Cuban. She may follow mom’s footsteps. Lourdes and mom partnered to launch the Material Girl clothing line in 2010, which is inspired by Madonna’s legendary 1980’s looks. Lola, as they call her, is also a published author and in 2003 mom and daughter co-wrote a children’s book. The two released The English Roses, which was partially based on Lourdes. And she also sings! She has contributed background vocals to Madonna’s MDNA album!

adonna before Miami

She rose from New York’s club scene where she first started in her career. She grew up in Pontiac Michigan, raised by her dad at a very young age as her mother died from breast cancer. She attended the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance before moving to New York City to pursue a career in modern dance. Living in a measly apartment on the sketchy Lower East Side, her dream was to become a professional dancer. It’s 1982, and under the lights at Danceteria, 30 West 21st Street, New York City, Madonna Louise Ciccone produced a demo track and the club DJ takes it to Sire Records, who signed Madonna to a two-single deal; the rest is history.

Who’s That Girl

Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. But her fame and fortune was not just limited to music. Madonna’s popularity won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for Evita (1996). Her other ventures include fashion design, books and filmmaking. She founded entertainment company Maverick (including the label Maverick Records) in 1992 as a joint venture with Time Warner. In 2007 she signed an unprecedented $120 million deal with Live Nation.

Flashback into the past:

Most Controversial Moments One things for sure--Madonna’s innuendos have never been an exercise in subtlety. Many of us may remember… 1989 Videos’ images of burning crosses in “Like a Virgin” prompt the Pope to ban Madonna from appearing in Italy. 1990 “Justify My Love”, her most controversial video of all time, is banned by MTV it from the network for including homosexuality, sadomasochism and extreme promiscuity. 1992 - “Erotica” album, was banned from networks, “Deeper and Deeper,” “Fever” and “Bye Bye Baby” were all provocative pop hits. - “Sex,” her book, was loaded with erotic photos, including multiple nudes of the singer engaged in graphic sexual acts.

2006 German prosecutors threatened to sue Madonna after she performed “Live to Tell” while standing on a cross and wearing a crown of thorns on her “Confessions” Tour. 2010 The Blonde Ambition Tour’s simulated masturbation scene during “Like a Virgin” has lived on thanks to the 1991 documentary “Truth or Dare.” 2012 -Madonna flashed various body parts during her performances of “Human Nature” and “Like a Virgin” on the “MDNA” Tour in Istanbul. -During the Puerto Rico stop on her “Girlie Show” world tour, Madonna rubbed the country’s flag between her crotch and received official condemnation from the nation’s congress.

New album “Rebel Heart”

“Rebel Heart,” probes some of the more audacious moments of her 33-year career. In many ways, Rebel Heart, her 13th studio album, is the definitive title for a Madonna album, as far back as childhood she was known to be rebellious. To create “Rebel Heart,” the 57-year-old collaborated with Diplo, Avicii, Kanye West, Nas, Nicki Minaj, Chance the Rapper, Mike Tyson, Toby Gad, DJ Dahi, Ariel Rechtshaid and Ryan Tedder over 18 months. The album is Madonna’s best in years. From the first single’s gospel-infused empowerment song, “Living For Love” to ballads like “Devil Pray”. “Rebel Heart, mixes fun dance tracks with bitter recriminations such as “Unapologetic Bitch.” Then statements tunes: (“Iconic,” feat. Chance The Rapper & Mike Tyson); “Bitch I’m Madonna” (feat. Nicki Minaj). “Joan of Arc,” a ballad about criticism. And the piece of resistance--the provocative tune “S.E.X.,” which sets a list of bedroom tools (“Twisted rope, handcuffs, blindfold, string of pearls”).

And the Video—“Bitch I’m Madonna”

Features guest stars: Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Diplo, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Rita Ora, Chris Rock and Kanye West along with fashion designer Alexander Wang and Madonna’s sons Rocco and David, the “Bitch I’m Madonna”. What’s Next for the Cone Queen… Rumor has it—a reality show. Maybe she’ll do a replay of the scandalous Drake smooch? Who know what Madonna will do next…

For all Latinos and those who love the Latino Lifestyle

¡Buen viaje!

This is quite a terrific month. Not only is it my birthday month, we have Madonna on our front cover—a little consolation from her cancelling her Miami concert until January. It’s also National Hispanic Heritage Month, (from September 15 to October 15) when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture. There have been some transcendental people here in South Florida that have changed and transformed our lives in a positive way. South Florida serves as a great example of Latino contribution to our community and that’s why every month, Hola Latinos strives to put forth some of the accomplishments of our growing Latino community, as well as highlight influential celebrities/movers and shakers. At the end of the day, whether Latino or from any other nationality, as a community we are very fortunate that we have the opportunity to experience the diversity in cultures. That’s what makes South Florida an exciting international Mecca. And on the international note, I’d like to bring to mind International Day of Peace, September 21. I think it’s great that people around the world take part in celebrating events centered on the theme “peace”-- from Interfaith peace vigils, prayers, peace walks, lighting candles, and even Tree planting for peace—and although we are far from having a peaceful word, we can all send a positive thought on that day --”Long live absolute world peace.” Don’t forget to check out our Hola Caribe Travel Guide, featuring Caribbean destinations every month for you travel buffs, this month Curaçao …. Bon Voyage!

NUESTRA CUBA, EVENTO MUSICAL DEL AÑO Por: Martin Arce

ELDERLY DESIGN IDEAS

P18 | September 2015 | www.holalatinonews.com | Home & Design

TIPS ON PREPARING YOUR HOME FOR YOUR AGING PARENTS GOOD MORNING MA AND PA!! A majority of us will be making room for our aging parents, at least one of them, to move in with us. This article is not about the psychological trauma this transition can cause to us (just kidding mom, you know we luv ya’). Here’s a few things to consider when preparing your home for the elderly: 1. Adequate lighting. Elderly people fall. Make sure there is access to lighting on the path from bed to bathroom. How can we put this delicately? The elderly pee a lot. 2. Floor surfaces. If your floors are slippery, add flat area rugs with nonskid mats beneath. If your floors are not slippery, remove area rugs entirely. 3. Doorknobs. Arthritis stinks. Doorknobs can be challenging with an arthritic condition. Replace door knobs with door levers. 4. Staircase. The stairs are very dangerous for the elderly due to their lack of balance combined with that secretive afternoon vodka and tonic they might be nipping at. Both sides of stairs should have handrails and steps should be defined. Where the tread begins should be visible. 5. Bathrooms. Install grab bars in the tub and by the toilet (or ter-let as they say in Brooklyn). Consider a comfort height toilet. It’s a few inches taller. Hand held showerheads are helpful if the person has limited mobility. Be thankful. Many of us would give anything in the world to have our parents in our lives.

Fall fashion is upon us and there are plenty of fun trends to choose from. Here are some of the most popular styles of the season so far…

Extra-long flare jeans and pants are everywhere you turn. The less shoe you can see the better.

On the flip side, you can swap out some stylish tights or panty hose for the flares. Dare to wear the funkiest tights you can find!

Over-the-knee boots and thigh-highs that look like tights are also super trendy right now.

As is customary for fall, dark colors are all the rage. But head-to-toe black or brown outfits will keep you looking your chicest. If you prefer to stand out from the crowd, then the neon trend is definitely for you.

Boots are without a doubt the hot shoe of the season, but Mary Janes are a definitely a close second…especially in white.

ADECUADO DESCANSO E

Por/By: Luz Pellegrino Jothi Vita Ayurvedic Spa & Wellbeing Center

PROPER REST I

n our hectic modern life, we rarely stop for a moment to realize the importance of an adequate rest. We are all too busy with our activities and do not take the time to allow our body to recover its energy. Ayurveda, the science of life, clearly explains the rhythms of nature. One of these rhythms is the circadian or in other words, the day and night… From 6:00 am to 10:00 am, the sun rises and awakens all living beings in this planet. The energy is slow and our bodies shall be energized with exercise and pampered with a self-massage before the shower. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, our digestive fire is at its peak. During this time we shall accomplish the main activities of the day. This is the time of mental sharpness, decision making and productivity. Consuming our main meal around noon will promote good digestion, energy and satisfaction. The hours between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm are ruled by the creative energies. This is the time for planning, for unlocking the creativity to resolve situations and establish new goals. From 6:00 pm to 10:00pm nature is finding its way to the silent recovery. These hours shall be used to prepare ourselves for a good rest. Nurturing our senses with harmonious music, lighting a candle, taking a bath, using aromatherapy to refresh our room or simply practicing conscious breathing. This daily ritual will allow a restful sleep. Allowing our bodies to complete all the metabolic processes between 10:00pm and 2:00am and supporting our brain to dream and release its psychic energy into the Universe between 2:00am and 6:00 am. By establishing a routine which follows this daily rhythm, honoring the proper rest for a daily renewal, we can become more productive, with more energy and with a sense of fulfillment. I encourage you to consciously embrace this rhythm and take responsibility of your own wellbeing. Namaste,

LOCAL HOT SPOTS IN CURAÇAO By: Denise Vischschoonmaker

Number 1- HEINEKEN SNEK

The famous Heineken Snek located at Caracasbaai is the place to be for a cold beer after a working day. Local citizen from all over the world who settled down in Curacao come together at this local joint. It’s not fancy at all, the interior is old and simple but let’s say that old and simple is the new hip and happening. Grap a beer and order chicken wings or Dutch bitter balls. Meet some people and enjoy!

Number 2- MILES (Pietermaai)

Miles, named after Jazz legend Miles Davis, is a cozy Jazz Café in the Nieuwestraat located in the colonial center of Pietermaai. Enjoy laid back Jazz music from real vinyl turntables and tasty drinks in a relaxing atmosphere!

Number 3 - BBQ express (Caracasbaai)

The best in town! This local favorite serves amazing cheeseburgers that are perfectly seasoned. You can spice up your burger with some Argentine chimichurri sauce or salsa rosada, a tasty blend of mayonnaise and ketchup. The Chilean staple Lomito (steak) and fries is another good option. You can sit into the small seating area in front or do as the locals do and eat your fried food from the hood of your car.

Number 4- 27 Bar & Terrace (Pietermaai)

‘The one and only Rock & Roll Bar on the island’. At 27 Bar, they often have live (rock) gigs and jam sessions and many of Curaçao’s best musicians call it their second home. Pictures from rock idols like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain all over the place makes this the best rock place to be.

Number 5- The Boathouse (Brakkeput Ariba)

The view at the Boathouse is the most amazing view on the island. Enjoy the Spanish water and beautiful boats from the terrace in the best ambiance you can find. They serve a wide variety of dishes. Typical Caribbean and world cuisine.

Buying a home in Curaçao Are you planning to buy a home in Curacao? The intangibles are tough to measure, but there are other benefits you can quantify:

- Financial investment:

Your monthly mortgage payment creates equity for you, not your landlord.

- The interest on your mortgage is a tax deduction - Tax-free gain:

When it’s time to sell your home, you don’t pay taxes on the proceeds of the sale that are above what you paid (with some restrictions).

How it works in Curaçao:

Here’s a general outline of what to expect during a home purchase, from the buyer’s perspective.

Buyers make a purchase offer.

This is it! You’ve found the home of your dreams in Curaçao, looked over the property disclosure form, reviewed comparable homes, talked it over with your agent and submitted an offer. The sellers may accept your first offer, but more often will return a counteroffer. In fact, additional negotiations are common, and your agent will help you through this generally stressful stage.

A home inspection takes place.

It is wise to hire an inspector – your agent can provide several options – to check the home and point out minor and major problems that should be fixed before closing. The inspector can provide you with a list of requested work, and the sellers have the option to complete the tasks, do some of them but not others, or reject the request. The sides will negotiate until reaching an agreement.

The sellers accept.

Once everyone is happy with the terms, the parties have reached what is known as mutual acceptance and enter into a purchase and sale agreement. Your agent will make a copy of your passport / ID and needs to verify your home address. The purchase and sale agreement will then be provided to you.

Buyers make payment in escrow of notary.

To solidify your intent to buy, you’ll make a deposit on the property. The amount varies, but is generally 10 percent of the purchase price. You’ll make this payment to the notary’s office escrow, not the seller. Note: This money counts toward your payment before closing later.

Buyers apply for a mortgage.

This step is streamlined if you’ve already been preapproved for a loan (which is a smart thing to do). If not, you’ll begin the loan application process now.

Closing time arrives.

Once contingencies are removed and financing is set, all parties sign the deed of transfer at the notary’s office, and the transaction closes. If parties are not on the island for this signing, they can give a power of attorney to the notary office.

Packing begins!

When the final signatures are in place, it’s time to put down the pens, shake hands, exchange smiles and start packing for the move! For more information contact: Margriet Vervoord at Remax Tel.011-5999- 462-9770 margriet@realestate.cw,

Here Active Listening Ear Buds These new earbuds take noise-cancelling to a whole new level. In fact, they allow you to cancel certain specified noises around you, while amplifying others. For example, you can set your Here Buds to automatically silence only the sound of a dog barking. You can also manually increase the treble at a concert while simultaneously lowering the background noise from the crowd. These futuristic Bluetooth-enabled headphones can be easily controlled by a smartphone app. The creators are currently raising funds on Kickstarter to finalize production and hopefully begin shipping by this December.

Sean eternamente saludables. Recuerden su cuerpo es su templo, cuídenlo.

CAVITACIÓN ESTÉTICA ES EFICAZ PARA ELIMINAR LA CELULITIS Por: Maribel Ruiz, Beauty of Wax

C

Si aún no lo has probado nunca o tienes tus dudas, has llegado al lugar indicado.

FOXX HUNT FOR THE PEMBROKE PINES POMERANIAN KILLER Foxx was a family member. I am sure the little four year old boy must be so heartbroken. Foxx’s body was found the next day on a stair leading to the patio with an evil written note. Having your pet stolen is one thing but beat to death is the sign of a dangerous person. Foxx died of blunt force trauma. He was 13 years old. Just the week before it was Cecil the Lion hunted down by a big Coward who should have just stuck to root canals. What is wrong with people? It seems so many people are COWARDS they find enjoyment from taking an animal’s life. Did you see the conceited coward couple on TV posing with the Giraffe they killed. After reading an article by Gail F. Melson Ph.D I feel sorry for children who show intentional cruelty toward animals without remorse because it is a manifestation of serious emotional turmoil that may escalate into extreme violence. A child who abuses animals requires immediate intervention and treatment. Children who have been physically abused and exposed to domestic violence are at higher risk. Ensuring treatment. Several states are mandating evaluation and counseling for individuals convicted of animal abuse. When we keep animals safe from harm, we also help keep children and adults safe. They then strung him upside down BY HIS BROKEN LEGS and proceeded to hit him repeatedly with a wooden board embedded with nails, basically treating this tortured puppy like a piñata. SCOPING THE MIAMI DOLPHINS FOR 2015

P47 | September 2015 | www.holalatinonews.com | Deportes / Sports

T

his September the Miami Dolphins start the 2015 NFL regular season with high hopes, a new big name defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to pair with Cameron Wake for an unbeatable pass rush, a fully re-modeled stadium, a new quarterback contract which indicates a franchise commitment, and one of the best tight-ends in the NFL Jordan Cameron, picked up in free agency. The most hopeful of all is Joe Philbin, now in his fourth year as Head Coach with only one year left on his contract. Many believe this will be his last season at the Dolphins, if he does not lead this team at minimum to a playoff berth. Many analysts including a recent Harvard study predict the Dolphins to win the AFC East, given the new talent combined with veteran players, and a maturing quarterback. As a die-hard Dolphins fans all I ask is not to make the mistakes that have haunted them in recent history. Alina’s Keys to Success………… • Finish the game strong, instead of giving up commanding leads. In the last years when the Dolphins have had significant leads against formidable foes, too often the games end as heartbreakers for the team and the fans. • Beat the teams you are supposed to beat! In recent history the Dolphins give play-off teams a run for their money, but yet lose to the teams with the losing-est records in the NFL. • Finish the season strong and focus what it takes to get into the post-season. At the end of the season the Dolphins usually control their own destiny to make it into the playoffs – yet they rarely win in those “must-win” situations. Good Luck Fins – Let’s Make It A Memorable Season!

ESCORPIO

October 23 - November 21 Great sensitivity and collective consciousness is awakened. You should avoid a tendency to be overly emotional and stop listening to people who can’t help you achieve a good balance between your dreams and reality.

SAGITARIO

You will start the month with certain internal struggles. Don’t fail to build up enough courage to defend yourself and get rid of those energy vampires that surround you. Only then will things get better and your luck will change.

November 22 - December 21

22 junio - 22 julio

ARIES

Love is in the air this month. Your spirituality will play a big role in your life, try some yoga classes. Without spirituality, money and material things will not be enjoyed. Yes you need to worry about finances but not at the risk of forgetting what really matters in life.

You need to remain more consistent and have set goals so you can be more productive in economic terms. Vices and escapism of any kind leads to no good. A medical checkup is recommended to prevent the development of diseases.

Insecurity forces you to be in a state of continuous alert that does nothing good for your nervous system. Organize your priorities and pay more attention to your family. Look for activities that take you away from your routine and that are fun.

February 19 - March 20

PISCIS

It’s quite possible that you will be rewarded with a promotion at work. Avoid confrontations. Don’t take your success to the point of abuse of power or to show off. It’s not necessary to advertise your achievements, you need to value them or you can lose them.

COMIDA A

The Sybarite Corner

FASHION FOOD In the last edition of Hola Latinos Magazine, we conclude that when it comes to gastronomy, love is always at first sight. Undoubtedly more than fashion (always changing, debatable and perhaps just commercial), aesthetics play a crucial role. Unless you come from the days of shipwreck or Tarzan’s relative, the presentation is crucial to complete the pleasure of eating. Before our early ancestors discovered fire, the difference in the act of eating with the rest of the animal kingdom, was nil. Blood and bone was what they saw before eating. Hundreds of thousands of years later, it is not justified and can be almost unbearable, to do the same at home and have to make the sacrifice to eat it. So, cook outs, barbecues and all that, don’t really excite me. Nothing’s more delightful than a good glass of wine in harmony with a plate in which alchemy, magic that derive from the gifts as humans we have been given-- certain flavors, aromas and colors, more beyond organic and vegan depths. So let us work a little and transform the look of what you will cook, whether it’s a plate of haute cuisine or a sandwich made while standing by the refrigerator. Always strive to achieve! Bon appétit. Until next month.

Ceviche de Camarón a lo Mexicano ¡EN CONMEMORACIÓN A LA INDEPENDENCIA DE MÉXICO, LES BRINDAMOS ESTA RECETA MEXICANA DELICIOSA DE CEVICHE—Y ADEMÁS SALUDABLE!

BLUE MARGARITA INGREDIENTS/Ingredientes -1 1/2 ounces tequila -1 ounce Blue Curacao -1 ounce fresh lime juice-(jugo de limón) -Lime wedge for garnish-( rodaja de limón)

PREPARATION/Preparacion Pour all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and pour into a margarita glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with a lime wedge.
