Fabulous Braid Updo 1. Start each braid at the side of your head, above your ear. Take two 2-inch sections of hair, twist the pieces a few times and then criss-cross them over each other—you’ll want to criss-cross twice. Now, just like a traditional French braid, add some hair to each section. Twist both pieces and criss-cross again. Repeat. 2. Continue braiding until you reach the nape of your neck. Loosely rope braid the remaining hair and secure each braid with an elastic. 3. Tuck the ends of your first braid under and coil it up like a bun. Pin it into place. Repeat this step with the second braid. —bring on the holiday parties!

Cada año uno resuelve mejorarse de alguna manera u otra, pero a muchos nos resulta difícil mantener esas promesas y nuestra edición de enero les brindará consejos de los sabios de la industria de salud para que logren sus goles así que no se la pierdan. En estas Navidades, trate de pasar más tiempo con su familia y amistades, como en los tiempos de antes, de manera simple y unidos, disfrutando de compartir con seres queridos. Apaguen sus celulares y aparatos electrónicos y verán cuánto más divertido se puede estar sin ellos. Utilice el tiempo que normalmente pasa en el teléfono celular para ir al gimnasio, educarse, o pasar más tiempo con su familia y se sorprenderá de que la época navideña será mucho más significante. A Toast to a healthier you in 2016! The Christmas season for most of us translates into a very hectic time — a season marked by overeating, over drinking, over shopping -- complete overindulgence. With that said, we decided that our next issue will be appropriately dedicated to health and wellness so you can achieve a healthier you in the New Year. Each year, we resolve to better ourselves in some way, but many of us find it hard to stay on track, so in our January edition, healthcare professionals will offer their expert advice on how to achieve those goals. One of my resolutions for this Holiday season is to spend more time with family and friends, the simply good old fashion way, human verses social media contact. You might want to try turning off your phones and electronic gadgets and see how much more fun life can be without them. Apply the time you normally spend on a cell phone and go to the gym, educate yourself, or spend more time with your family and friends and you’ll be pleasantly surprised that your holiday season will take on a whole new meaning. It may take a bit of rehab for many of us electronic addicts. Simply breathe. Try yoga to help kick the habit! O
ne of the most anticipated cruise ships of the year, Norwegian Escape was officially christened by Mr. 305 himself, Pitbull in a grand ceremony, making it the first time ever he has served as “godfather” of a cruise ship. And this in not just any cruise ship-the Norwegian Escape is the largest and also the first in Norwegian Cruise lines’ Breakaway Plus Class. The 4,200-passenger cruise ship arrived after 17 months of construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to her home port, Miami. The ship’s astonishing hull artwork was created by Guy Harvey, who made a special guest appearance. Some of his favorite marine life is depicted in Harvey’s largest canvass ever made. In his usual “Mr. 305” style, Pitbull pumped up the crowd before our preview sailing of the Norwegian Escape, a great way to get everyone ready for two nights of non-stop partying. Turning the PortMiami pier side into a massive party while performing his hottest hits, -“Don’t Stop the Party”, “Fireball” and “Give Me Everything,” guests were able to enjoy his signature Voli vodka with appropriately named Mr. Worldwide and Dale cocktails, which are available across the Norwegian fleet. And for an added signature touch, all guestrooms received a sample of Pitbull’s new cologne in a gift bag to take home. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings chief executive officer Frank Del Rio kicked off the celebration, on an extremely hot day for November. Guests were actually provided cold drinks by waiters on Segways. “There truly is no better place in the world to celebrate the introduction of a magnificent new ship than right here — the cruise capital of the world — the beautiful PortMiami,” Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, said in his opening speech.
Following an acrobatic Parkour performers, national radio personality Froggy from the “Elvis Duran Morning Show” took over as event emcee. Special VIP guest was MiamiDade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. Attendees got a sneak peak at the entertainment Norwegian Escape has to offer as the casts of Tony Award-winning Broadway shows “After Midnight” and “Million Dollar Quartet” performed a selection of songs from their shows. “Norwegian Escape represents a major moment for us… this is a true evolution of our brand,” said Andy Stuart, Norwegian Cruise Line’s president and chief operating officer. “Not only does she offer high caliber entertainment, quality dining and luxurious accommodations that significantly raise the bar for our fleet and puts her in a class of her own, but she exemplifies our renewed commitment to offering unparalleled freedom and flexibility to our guests.” Travel | www.holalatinonews.com | December 2015 | 29

All the king crab, stone crabs, lobster, shrimp, oyster, mussels you can eat…just heavenly. The restaurants have exceptional service.

Los Beneficios del Cardio
Amigos sabían que el corazón es un musculo y que para mantenerlo saludable es recomendable hacer ejercicio cardio vascular por veinte minutos de tres a cuatro veces por semana? El ejercicio debe ser moderado y no demasiado intenso. ¿Que es el ejercicio cardiovascular? -Aumenta la frecuencia cardiaca a un nivel donde aun es posible hablar y se empieza a sudar un poco. Si deseas bajar de peso debes hacer mínimo 45 minutos, tres a cuatro veces por semana. Los beneficios de hacer ejercicio cardiovascular son demasiados para poder explicarlos en solo un artículo: La capacidad pulmonar y cardiaca mejora, se reduce el riesgo de padecer de hipertensión arterial, arteriosclerosis y patologías tromboembolias (ataques de corazón, embolias.) Aumenta la capilarizacion muscular, se queman hidratos de carbono y grasas, fortalece las defensas del cuerpo, da energía, disminuye los niveles de colesterol y triglicéridos, ayuda a la digestión, y si lo haces de manera constante y adecuadamente, hasta puede retrasar el envejecimiento. Amigos si todos estos beneficios mencionados no son suficientes para animarte a comenzar, les cuento mi razón personal por hacer ejercicio vascular cuatro veces por semana. Además noto que mi piel se ve mucho mas hidratada cuando hago ejercicio y tomo un mínimo de 8 vasos de 16 onzas al día. El ejercicio aumenta las endorfinas, las endorfinas son un “anti depresivo” natural y ayuda a la autoestima. ¿Que mejor manera de combatir la depresión y la ansiedad? Yo personalmente me siento feliz casi todo el tiempo y sé que el ejercicio a contribuido en un 80%. Es más cuando dejo de hacer ejercicio cardio vascular a veces me desanimo y tengo menos energía. En mi adolescencia sufrí de sobre peso y de bullying. A los quince años llegue a pesar más de 85 kilos. Sé que a muchas personas no les gusta el ambiente de los gimnasios, por eso siempre recomiendo los videos de zumba. Son súper divertidos y si te animas, en los gimnasios tienen clases fabulosas. La natación, caminar rápido, trotar, las clases de spinning, la bicicleta, y la escaladora son varias opciones de ejercicio cardio. ¡Anímate y comienza hoy mismo, no esperes hasta después de fin de año con el pretexto de las fiestas, falta de tiempo o por pura flojera! Recuerda que en la época Navideña siempre engordamos alrededor de 3 kilitos. Si comienzas a hacer ejercicio ahora podrás disfrutar de las delicias de esta época con menos remordimiento. El libro incluye fotos intimas de Adamari nunca antes vista por el publico. “Espere 10 años después de ser sobreviviente de cáncer para tener a mi hija y me siento muy feliz y dichosa de poder ser mamá”, dice López. Y con esa gran fe logró su mayor deseo... “La fe es lo que me ha hecho salir adelante y tener la fortaleza para enfrentar momentos difíciles. La fe de que iba a superar mi enfermedad, la fe de que iba a salir adelante después de mi divorcio, la fe de que iba a tener un hijo, es lo que me mantuvo y me sigue manteniendo fuerte… no sé cuantos obstáculos la vida me va a presentar, pero sé que Dios me va a dar la fortaleza y la sabiduría para poder entender los procesos que me toquen, para disfrutar los momentos lindos y para continuar sacando adelante a mi hija”, dice López.

Recién salió en la portada de “People en Español” y mamá orgullosamente cuenta que “salió muy bien…muy contenta mi princesa, toda una muñequita posando, tomó una siesta y después estaba lista para su sesión de fotos”. Indiscutiblemente Adamari esta apasionada por “ser mamá”. “Desde que salí del hospital he empezado a buscar otro príncipe o otra princesa. Si Dios me quiere regalar otra bendición, yo estaré lista para recibirla”. Es tanto así que dice que las tres palabras que mejor describen a Adamari son: “simpatía, honestidad y Mamá.” Su tema favorito en el show Mi nuevo Día: es “aprendiendo a ser mamá” donde entrevista a médicos que dan consejos.

damari comenzó su carrera en el mundo del espectáculo con tan solo 7 años cuando participó en la novela María Eugenia y recuerda su primer rol. “…Era emoción, nervios, en realidad yo era como una niñita que estaba jugando con los adultos y me parecía divertido no lo entendía como un trabajo, en ese momento estaba pensando que me estaban dando la oportunidad de jugar con los grandes”. Cuando tenía solo 12 años participó en “Diana Carolina” y “El Ángel del Barrio”, co-producciones Puertorico-Venezuela, de regreso a su país incursiona en el teatro realizando varias obras teatrales, entre ellas “Romeo Y Julieta” y “Panorama Desde el Puente”. También se ha destacado en las películas como, “Linda Sara”, “La Guagua Aérea”, “Héroes de Otra Patria” y “Paradise Lost”, producción de Estados Unidos. Su carrera despegó con su entrada a Televisa en México, “Esta fue la plataforma que impulso mi carrera de ser solo una actriz en puerto rico, también hice dos co- producciones con Venezuela y me empezaron a conocer en otros lugares.” Dentro de sus trabajos se destacan importantes telenovelas como: “Amigas y Rivales”, “Gata Salvaje”, “Mujer de Madera”, “Bajo las Riendas del Amor”, “Alma de Hierro”. En 1999 fue galardonada por los premios Quijote por su trayectoria internacional. Adamari también ha sido la Portavoz de Yoplait “Save lids to save lives” y “Susan G Komen for the Cure”, como también de Garnier para Puerto Rico. En el 2014 se convierte en la Imagen de Sprint Puerto Rico.
Adamari, siempre está de mano en mano con las fundaciones, brindando consejos para la prevención de cáncer de mama: “La mayoría de los cáncer que se presentan en las mujeres no tienen un historial de cáncer en la familia. Hay que aprender cosas básicas y por lo menos ir una vez al año para hacerse un cheque medico general. Aprender a hacerte los auto-exámenes de seno es la clave porque la detección temprana salva vidas-- una vez al mes después que se te termine el periodo. Aprende a conocer tus senos para diferenciar si hay algo diferente... Dejar al lado el tabú y mírate desnuda frente al espejo para que sepas como eres y si cambia tu seno”. “Si yo misma no me hubiese palpado la pelota en el seno, cómo los exámenes (mamografías) no se hacen hasta después de los 40 años, yo estuviese muerta porque yo me lo descubrí a los 33 años y hubiesen pasado 7 años y el cáncer se me hubiese regado y el tratamiento hubiese sido más difícil”, dice Ella. Para los que no tengan recursos médicos: La liga contra el cáncer esta allí y ellos cubren los gastos pero tienes que demostrar que no tienes los recursos para pagar los tratamientos. “No hay escusa para no enfrentar la enfermedad, la información está en nuestro idioma y a la mano en la computadora,”dice Adamari. Adamari cuenta que uno de los mejores momentos en su vida ha sido verse libre de la enfermedad y poder tener la oportunidad de vivir, luchar y trabajar para sus sueños. ¡Ella seguirá siendo una gran inspiración para todas las mujeres que atraviesan por eso malos momentos!

Receta de Hallacas Venezolanas La ‘hallaca’ es una receta tradicional criolla venezolana. Su preparación e ingredientes varían en cada región del país y cada familia le añade su toque personal por eso son tan especiales. ¡Lleva muchísimo trabajo pero de seguro valen la pena! Y el ingrediente más importante que lleva es AMOR! Ingredientes Para El Guiso 4 1/2 lb de carne de res 4 1/2 lb de carne de cerdo o cochino 2 1/2 lb de tocino 2 cebollas, picada en cuadritos pequeños 6 ajíes dulces, picado en trocitos pequeños 2 pimentones rojos medianos, picado en cuadritos 1 taza de cebollín, picadito 8 dientes de ajo, picado finamente 1 cucharada de orégano 2 cucharadas de sal 1 cucharada de comino 1 cucharada de ajo en polvo 1 cucharada de pimienta 1 ½ botella y media (25.4 oz) de Vino tinto de cocina 12 lbs de hojas de plátano ahumadas 1 taza de aceita vegetal
Ingredientes Para La Masa
1 taza de manteca de puerco o cochino ( para cocinar el onoto) 1 taza Onoto en grano (annatto, achiote) 3 paquetes (2 lb cada uno) de harina pre cocida de maíz blanca 15 tazas de caldo de pollo bajo en sal 4 ½ tazas de mantequilla (9 barras), a temperatura ambiente sal al gusto

Ingredientes Para El Ensamblaje
1/2 taza de aceita vegetal 4 cebollas medianas, picada en aros 3 pimentones rojos, cortado en tiras delgadas 4 tazas de perejil en ramitas 1 ½ tazas de pasitas negras 2 tazas de garbanzos, cocidos ½ taza de alcaparras 2 tazas de aceitunas rellenas con pimentón (sin semillas) 2 paquetes de tocineta picada en trocitos (2 pulgadas) 1 rollo de pabilo
Preparación del guiso
Verifique que la carne que utilizará (blanca, roja o mixta) no tenga exceso de grasa, y estén cortadas en cuadritos pequeños, si es gallina cocinela por separado sin ablandar completamente, reserve el caldo. En una paila grande (envase de metal redondo y de poca profundidad) se saltea la cebolla y el ajo en aceite bien caliente, hasta que se marchite, agregue el ajo porro y el cebollín y deje cocinar por unos 5 minutos, agregue el pimentón y ají dulce, deje cocinar unos minutos más y agregue la carne, deje que se incorporen y agregue todos los demás ingrediente y deje cocinar. Deje cocinar por unos 40 minutos, hasta quedar con consistencia casi espesa. Deje reposar y resérvelo.
Preparar la masa
En un molde se vierte la harina y poco a poco se le agrega el caldo que teníamos reservado, en constante movimiento se le va añadiendo sal, aceite onotado para agarrar el color amarillo y el agua necesaria hasta hacer una masa homogénea, suave y que no se pegue a las manos.
Mesa de trabajo
Es importante que disponga de una mesa grande y fuerte para disponer de los ingredientes del adorno, el guiso, las hojas, el pabilo y se recomienda una taza de aceite para suavizar la masa y las hojas al momento de estirar la masa. Lo primero va a tomar una hoja de las más grande y la engrasa, en el centro de la hoja coloque una bola de masa y adelgácela con los dedos (hasta lograr ½ cm), creando una circunferencia simétrica, luego agregue el guiso ya frío y sobre éste coloque los adornos distribuidos armoniosamente. Luego doble por la parte ancha de la hoja para que se desprendan dos de los lados de la masa las cuales caén sobre el relleno. Se toman los bordes, se unen y se doblan. Se doblan los otros dos extremos, creando un pliegue hasta que quede cerrado, doble los extremos hacia dentro y envuélvala con la hoja más pequeña, luego tome otra hoja para reforzar el envoltorio y posteriormente se amarra con el pabilo cruzándola dos veces en cada dirección. Cuando tenga varias hallacas listas introdúzcalas en una olla grande con agua hirviendo por espacio de una hora, retírelas y escúrralas, deje que se enfríen completamente, y si es posible espere un día entero para servirlas así se puede apreciar mejor su sabor.
