This will be one of my favorite issues for two reasons: The obvious, Richard Gere is gracing our cover. One of his biggest fans for sure, I have total admiration for this international actor and humanitarian. The other reason I love this issue: it’s our spring edition! Spring is about new beginnings. Many of us clean out our closets and homes, and others decide to detox their bodies in order to get ready for those summer bikinis! So this issue appropriately has a lot of fresh ideas—from fashion hot off the runways in New York, to travel hot spots in Europe during spring. For those that won’t travel this month, not to worry, there will be plenty of festivities during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in town.

Editor’s Pick. : American Gigolo Richard Gere movie My all time favorite

This month we also have one of Miami’s most iconic international and cultural events of the year, not too be missed. The 2017 Miami Film Festival has a great line-up of artists, many from our own backyard that will be gracing the Miami Film Festival such as Gloria and Emilio Estefan, so check out our feature on the festival. And yes ladies, Richard Gere will be there during opening night!

fashion Fashion Inspired by For his very first “Pre-fall” collection, GEORGES HOBEIKA expresses the strength of his designing craftsmanship and the delicacy of his stylistic signature through a masterful interpretation of his favorite creative inspiration: nature. These images stand out vividly on aerial fabrics, as thin as the graceful Lepidoptera wings. Wings in flight scale transparent fabrics and are exalted by streams of meticulously embroidered lace. Sparkling reflections illuminate evanescent outfits of both deep and evocative color.

This story inspired the Collections colorful patterns and peasant details which are offset by clean, crisp fabrics. Bold floral prints and pleated ruffles balance sculptural knits and classic stripes. “Patterns from a Romanian shawl and the documentary sparked the inspiration behind the collection, but we’ve stayed true to our urban roots, mixing it up with crisp fabrics and sculptural shapes,” said Caroline Belhumeur, creative director and SVP of women’s design.

Luxury Residences in Miami: THE NEW TREND By: Jhonny Montenegro

Sunny Isles, one the most exclusive areas in South Florida, is home to several luxury properties with a new trend: Offering fivestar-resort-like services Opulence and ostentation are two words that perfectly describe the new trend that is popular among those who enjoy a life of luxury, comfort and unrivaled services. Perhaps a few years ago it might have seemed impossible, but today Miami is one of the ultimate luxury destinations in the world. Who hasn’t felt like a King or Queen at a five-star hotel?-- Luxury rooms, fine dining, customized concierge services, coupled with a beachfront with clear waters, white sand, and palm trees- make this a dream lifestyle. There is an increasing trend by Miami developers to offer luxury resort-like properties. An example is the Ritz-Carlton Residences which are currently under construction in exotic Sunny Isles, a place that attracts visitors from all over the world. The Ritz-Carlton Residences Sunny Isles will offer luxury amenities that include: Cabanas, beachfront fitness centers, private club, bars, exclusive breakfast and dining areas, business centers, among others. The Ritz-Carlton brand will provide the legendary service they have been renowned for over a century. “Today’s luxury developments offer a lifestyle for those who reside in them: with five star, all- inclusive, tailored services,” said Edgardo Defortuna, project developer and founder of Fortune International Group. “This new trend appeals to the affluent market- those who look to invest and enjoy life at their property.” Another factor that stands out about the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Sunny Isles, is its convenient location: close to Aventura Mall, Ball Harbour luxury boutiques, and the Miami International Airport. The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Sunny Isles, slated to be completed by 2019, is the perfect example of where the Miami real estate market is headed. A splendid design and architecture will be complemented with breathtaking scenery that will give its residents all the excitement, diversity and beauty the city has to offer. Other developments by Fortune include: Jade Signature; Jade Residences at Brickell Bay; 1200 Brickell; Artech; Le Meridian Sunny Isles Beach; Jade Beach; Jade Ocean; which have already become luxuryliving icons. The Château Group developed the Château Beach Residences, a luxury condo in Sunny Isles, as well as the FENDI- Château Residences in Surfside (which is the first FENDI-branded real estate development in the world.) Fortune and Château Group have merged their luxury real estate development experience to build the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Sunny Isles, with 52 floors and a stunning beachfront. Edgardo Defortuna, president and founder of Fortune International Group said: “We have a spectacular design with exuberant gardens designed by Arquitectonica GEO. The lobby is a work of art in itself, with crystal panels and a view to the pool and the beach.” In a metropolitan city like Miami, its residents increasingly demand specific, innovative amenities; and offering a lifestyle is one of the ways that luxury developers remain relevant in the competitive South Florida real estate market. 28 | March 2017 | www.holalatinosnews.com

Ritz-Carlton Residences

Cuba and the Caribbean are also prominently featured in the Festival program: Austin Peters’ Give Me Future: Major Lazer in Cuba which explores electronic dancehall superband Major Lazer’s groundbreaking 2015 Havana concert, will unspool in Miami Knight Documentary Achievement Award Competition.

Monday night at seven

Major Lazer is a major force in the world of electronic dancehall. In 2015, riding the wave of their hit “Lean On,” the EDM supergroup undertook a world tour with a stop in Havana, a destination few international acts have had permission or, given its infrastructural issues, inclination to perform. The show was a gamble-but 500,000 habaneros turned up for what turned out to be a history-making event. Fun, fascinating and inspirational, Give Me Future exudes Major Lazer’s motto: “Making the world smaller by making the party bigger.” Director Austin Peters captures the concert while seizing glimpses of a great city in a moment of dizzying transition. Veteran director Fernando Perez’s latest work, Last Days

in Havana (Últimos días en la Habana), will receive its North American premiere in the Festival’s signature Knight Competition, as will Carlos Lechuga’s Santa & Andres (Santa y Andrés), which has yet to be screened in Cuba due to controversy. Symphony in D: This soaring documentary from Dennis Scholl and Miami native Marlon Johnson-whose Deep City: The Birth of the Miami Sound world premiered at the Festival in 2014-tracks the highly unusual and inspired collaboration between Pulitzer Prize-nominated musician Tod Machover and the people of Detroit. www.holalatinosnews.com | March 2017 | 47

Ultra Music Festival’s headliner Dubfire will attend a world premiere documentary about his own meteoric rise in the EDM world in Dubfire: Iranian-American Ali Shirazinia, aka Dubfire, is one half of the Grammy Award-winning duo known as Deep Dish and one of the most influential and innovative producer-DJs of our time. This documentary profile from Berlin-based directors Michael Koczynski and Mino Kodama traces Shirazinia’s wild journey from his Iranian childhood, which was thrown into turmoil by the 1979 Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War, to his emergence in the world of electronic dance music via the nightclubs of Washington, DC. In addition: The Opening and Awards Night Galas and An Evening With Rossy de Palma, the Festival’s CINEDWNTWN Red Carpet Galas, sponsored by Miami Downtown Development Authority, will include a screening of the North American premiere of I’m Gilda(Gilda, no me arrepiento de este amor) from Argentina, based on the tragic life story of that country’s most famous cumbia singer, starring Natalia Oreiro and directed by Lorena Muñoz. In recognition of Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Festival will highlight Canada’s internationally influential film culture. Among the films to be screened are the world premiere of Quebecois filmmaker Denis Langlois’A Paradise Too Far and Cannes-winning, Oscar-shortlisted Xavier Dolan’sIt’s Only The End of the World (Juste La Fin Du Monde). The Festival’s signature Knight Competition, presented by The John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, will feature a mesmerizing variety of powerful works from around the world, directed by filmmakers who have directed at least one Official Selection (feature) in a prior edition of the Festival. Films are eligible for Achievement awards totaling $40,000 in cash. The RENE RODRIGUEZ CRITICS AWARD will be bestowed on the film in the Festival selected by all accredited critics covering this year’s edition. AYURVEDIC Approach to Seasonal Allergies

AYURVEDA

In this season, allergies affect a large percentage of the population and can significantly limit our daily activities. Although the body can manifest allergic reactions to many things, including food, medicines, and other external agent, in this article we will discuss the common phenomenon of environmental or seasonal allergies. You may wonder why one person can spend an afternoon walking through blossoming fields without any symptoms, while others can’t step out the front door without experiencing severe allergic symptoms. Heredity is one of the major distinguishing factors. However, from an Ayurvedic perspective, there are three influential factors and treatments to consider when dealing with seasonal allergies: 1) Strength of the individual’s digestive fire – this is one of the most important factors for our health where we take in energy and information from our environment, extract whatever is beneficial to us, and eliminate everything we don’t need. Ways to increase our digestive fire are: a. Meditation - When we calm the mind and body, we are less likely to respond to external agents aggressively while increasing our ability to take in nourishment from our environment. b. Conscious Breathing - Take an inhalation that is slightly deeper than normal. With your mouth closed, exhale through your nose while constricting your throat muscles. This has a balancing influence on the entire cardiorespiratory system and helps release feelings of irritation and frustration. c. Detoxify your Body – One Ayurvedic herb that is helpful in treating allergies by cleansing the digestive tract and removing toxins is Triphala. 2) Reduce absorption of external allergens - We are in constant dynamic exchange with our external environment. When our environment has high exposure to allergens, it becomes difficult to control symptoms. A simple way to reduce possible effects is: a. Use a neti pot - This container will allow warm salt water to flow in one nostril and out the other. Perform this saline rinse once or twice daily to flush out any material that has come into the nasal passages. b. Lubricate your nostrils – This Ayurvedic practice known as “nasya” consists of applying a few drops of vegetal oil to the nasal passages. The oil forms a protective layer that prevents allergens from attaching themselves to the nasal membranes. 3) Balance your “dosha”– Follow a dosha pacifying diet according to your unique mindbody constitution. I invite you to visit our center to find out about your dosha. Call us at 954-237-3500

Horoscopo

Marzo 2017

Foods That Make You Look

Younger

By: Jenny Patrizia

F

or centuries, both men and women have been looking for the Fountain of Youth. So far, to my knowledge, it hasn’t been found. However the good news is that there are things we can do for ourselves that will help us feel and look younger! You can address most of your common beauty concerns simply by eating the right foods. That’s right—eating well not only does wonders for your waistline and bolsters your immune system but can also provide some very real beauty benefits, such as smoothing wrinkles, giving hair a glossy shine and strengthening flimsy nails. Your diet directly affects your day-to-day appearance and plays a significant

role in how well you age because nutrients, minerals and fatty acids, as well as antioxidants, protect your body from damaging environmental stresses. So here are 5 “Fountain of Youth” types of foods you can add to your every day diet for a more youthful appearance: 1. Coffee. A cup of coffee has bioactive compounds that may help protect your skin from melanoma. 2. Watermelon. Watermelons and tomatoes contain antioxidant compounds that helps skin stave off UV damage, helping in possibly prevent wrinkles. 3. Pomegranates. The seeds of this wonder fruit are

bursting with antioxidants, like vitamin C, that prevent fine lines, wrinkles and dryness by neutralizing the free radicals that weather skin. 4. Blueberries. Blueberries provide both vitamins C and E that work in tandem to brighten skin, even out tone and fight off free-radical damage. 5. Lobster. High in zinc, shellfish has anti-inflammatory properties that can help treat a range of skin annoyances, acne included. Lobster also helps renewal of skin cells. But as you, my readers, know I always try to bring you the best information and resources because you are deserve the best!

This “phone-to-table” approach results in daily specials like fresh Alaskan King Crab flown in straight from the Bering Sea, scarce finds like spiny Brittany blue lobster, and batches of Porcini mushrooms the size of a hand. Rounding out his repertoire, Chef Peter is a bit of a social media maven, offering up drool-worthy, behind-the-scenes food shots on his Instagram (@ RedSteakhouse), plus a bit of his personal side and lifestyle pursuits in occasional shots featuring his two dogs, Peanut and Capone – his other true passions. tecnologí a Semáforos en el suelo, la solución para zombies adictos al Smartphone

I notice people a lot lately texting and talking on their smart phones while walking their dogs. Not too smart. It’s supposed to be bonding and playtime not just I left my leg and time to go home. People have to pay attention. All of a sudden one may need to pick up their little dog quickly or have to yank their dog’s leash. When you yank your dogs leash it could cause cervical or neck trauma which is the reason why many dogs get laryngeal paralysis. You could have choked your dog one time years ago and it may still cause laryngeal paralysis. Don’t be a jerk and jerk us doggies when you walk us. If this happens we then need surgery and I don’t like being put under anesthesia. Prong or choke collars may cause trachea cartilage damage. It’s best to use a harness especially if your dog pulls and when training a puppy to go for walks. This will definitely rule out future Laryngeal Paralysis. Some of the symptoms of Laryngeal Paralysis are a change in your dogs bark tone. It may sound hoarse, you may hear your dog gag or choke while they eat. You may think your dog snoring sounds cute but in fact it could be a sign that you should take your dog to be examined. If the larynx does not open and close right while your dog breathes and remains closed that means your dog has Laryngeal Paralysis and will require laryngeal tieback surgery. There is a risk afterwards of aspiration pneumonia. It’s best to prevent this by putting a harness on your dog and not using retractable leashes. Dogs may get neck and spine injuries. If your dog walker gets tangled in one they can get cut up pretty bad. Shock collars

are something I would not wear they can cause burns, cardiac fibrillation, and changes in heart and respiratory rates as well as behavior issues. Our dog Parents should learn that positive reward based training methods are the way to go. I want to walk briskly even if I am in a K9 Cart and cannot use my back leg. I don’t want my poor neck being jerked or shocked like I’m wearing a guillotine. This would surely cause me psychological stress. You may want to bring some treats along on your walk to lure your dog to do the right thing. Find ways to train your dog to have good manners and behavior while walking free of a shocking noose. It’s not like a person wearing a fashion statement necklace it does hurt when you yank and suddenly jerk our collars even if they are decorated with diamonds and studs. I hope I taught you something and that you won’t drag and gag your dog. Laryngeal Paralysis may also occur in older large breed dogs and sometimes although not often in puppies in breeds such as the Dalmatian, English Bulldog and Siberian Husky. It sometimes is associated with hypothyroidism. Yup Pup we dogs are very fragile beings not just a Knick Knack Paddy Whack give your dog a bone. Too bad we are considered to be property and our pet parents cannot get Obamacare or claim us as dependents. That would be a miracle. Less surrendering and suffering in shelters. Have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and please don’t dye your pets green!

Sirena 56 Sirena 64

S

irena Yachts - the all new Sirena Marine motor-yacht brand had the world premiere of Sirena 64 and Sirena 56 at the Yacht Miami Beach show. This shipyard’s new production will compete in the modern-classic semi displacement GRP motor yacht market starting from 56 feet to 100+ft. The first two models, the 64 and the smaller 56 were designed by two of the best designers on the international scene: Frers Naval Architecture & Engineering for naval architecture exterior design and engineering and Spadolini Design Studio for interior design. The main features of the all-new Sirena 64 motor-yacht are: - Unparalleled exterior and interior spaces and comfortable livability - Fuel and water capacity designed to really offer “real” Long Range cruises - Consumption efficiency (20% more efficient than direct competitors) - Class A design gives high seaworthiness at all sea conditions and efficient hull guarantees max. high speeds NAVAL ARCHITECTURE OVERVIEW “For Sirena 64” - says German Frers in charge of the naval architecture exterior design and engineering- “there are three optional interior layouts of generous volume for serious world family cruising in great comfort including large glass windows for a good view to the sea and plenty of natural light. The hull design was developed in depth, including testing of three families of models at the Wolfson Unit towing tank facility in Southampton (UK). In addition, sea keeping tests were conducted on a self propelled 1/3 scale model of the hull”.

It’s a pleasant, sea conscious, low drag canoe body capable of running at high speeds or cruising in semi-displacement, low fuel consumption mode. The hull stability is well matched to the needs of the gyroscopic stabilizers to insure cruising or anchoring in great comfort. 82 | March 2017 | www.holalatinosnews.com

The retractable hardtop lets owners/guests enjoy the flybridge even during difficult sun hours. The exterior area of Sirena Yacht 64 provides an 80-feet living area.
