A S A F E A N D W E L C OM I NG E N V I RON M E N T Located off the east coast of mainland Canada in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Prince Edward Island has a population of 140,000. It is 224 km (140 miles) long and from 6 to 64 km (4 to 40 miles) wide. The Island is accessible by air, ferry and via the Confederation Bridge. On campus, there’s always a storm brewing! The Holland College Hurricanes have earned national recognition for their success and sportsmanship, and have received the award for the highest number of Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Academic All Canadian Athletes for the past three years! Holland Hurricanes teams are a great source of pride for Holland College. The athletics program provides students with the opportunity to participate in high-level competition as part of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. The athletics department also offers club-level sports and a variety of recreational and intramural offerings. The Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) on the Prince of Wales Campus is the home of the ’Canes. The CCE features a state-of-the-art fitness centre, physiotherapy clinic, cardio room, walking and running track, dance studio, meeting rooms, and classrooms. GLENDENNING HALL Living in residence is a great way to get the most out of college life. Glendenning Hall is a 186-bed apartment-style residence located on the college’s Prince of Wales Campus. Rooms are in high demand and space is very limited. You should submit your residence application and program application early in October to be considered. You will only be accepted into residence after you have been accepted into a college program by the Admissions Office. The residence has one, two, and three bedroom furnished units, each with its own kitchenette and bathroom. You are encouraged to find your own roommates, but if you cannot, you will be matched as closely as possible based on applicant profiles (age, gender, program of study, hobbies, etc.). NEW RESIDENCE Our new 81-bed residence will open in fall 2018 just across the street from Glendenning Hall. All units have a communal kitchen, a shared bathroom, and private bedrooms. Similar to Glendenning Hall, the new residence offers common areas on each floor.
S L E M O N PA R K All cadets enrolled in programs at the Atlantic Police Academy (APA) are required to live in the APA’s residence, except for when they are in the on the job training portion of their programs. The residence rooms are single occupancy with private bath, cable TV, mini-fridge, wired Internet and air conditioning, and are located on site in Slemon Park. OFF CAMPUS Ancillary Services maintains a list of off campus accommodations for Charlottetown, Summerside, Georgetown, O’Leary, and Alberton. They offer a variety of free resources including counselling, testing, tutoring, and assistive technologies. They help students become independent learners and encourage them to reach their academic potential. Students can request support through the application process, or any time during the school year.

A DU LT E DUC AT ION Need to upgrade your academic marks or obtain a credit to get into your program of choice? Learn in a supportive and friendly environment and get closer to accomplishing your goals! Complete or upgrade high school credits in order to enter post-secondary or skills training programs, or prepare to write your GED exam. You can attend during the day or evening in centres across the province. The following programs are available: GED PROGRAM This program gives adults who have not graduated from high school the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency certificate FOR FREE! If you want to take the GED exam or attend classes, you must complete a mandatory practice test. This is used to determine your readiness for the GED exam and helps us create an educational plan that best suits your needs. The test takes approximately four hours to complete; however, we can break it into smaller sections to better fit your schedule. HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS Acquire high school credits or upgrade existing marks in science, math and English courses that are recognized at colleges and universities across Canada. A great blend of college and university! Degree pathways, such as articulation agreements and transfer credits, give you the opportunity to begin your studies at one institution and finish at another. Holland College has more than 150 agreements with universities and post-secondary institutions across Canada, in the U.S. and overseas. These articulation agreements give you the opportunity to earn a university degree in as little as two years after you have your Holland College diploma.
Holland College and Collège de l’Île, PEI’s French language post-secondary institution, have a unique partnership which provides students with exciting learning opportunities! The goal is to enhance your student experience while building and strengthening your language abilities, an invaluable workplace skill. In turn, this will open new doors of adventure and opportunity for you as a citizen of the world. As of September 2017, students enrolled in the Early Childhood Care and Education program and the Human Services program can take some of their courses in French. Check with the Admissions Office for details relating to the courses available in French. All Holland College students also benefit from a 20 per cent discount on French language training offered by Collège de l’Île. Check it out! collegedelile.ca
Students who graduate from any two-year program at Holland College with an average of 70 per cent or higher are granted two years of credit toward a Bachelor of Applied Management at UNB Saint John. Individual programs have additional degree pathways, such as the Bioscience Technology program’s agreement with the University of Prince Edward Island, which gives graduates two years of credit toward the Bachelor of Science in Bioscience Technology degree. Our Environmental Applied Science Technology program teaches you scientific theory in classes such as environmental microbiology, soil science, air quality, environmental chemistry, and will apply those theories working in rivers, streams and water treatment facilities. As a student you will collect and analyze water and soil samples and compare results from previous years to monitor environmental health. Since the Atlantic Police Academy (APA), a division of Holland College, opened its doors in 1971, thousands of law enforcement professionals, firefighters, and correctional officers have received the training they needed to enter and remain in the field. In addition to the Police Science (Cadet) program, the APA offers Basic Firefighting, Conservation Enforcement, Corrections, and Sheriff and Public Safety programs. All programs at the Atlantic Police Academy have mandatory residential requirements. As a student, you must live in the APA’s residence for the duration of the program, except when you are in on the job training. The residential environment serves as a training lab, providing experiential learning that would not be possible if students only interacted with one another in an instructional setting. Residence life allows students to develop skills in teamwork, problem solving, time management and communications, and allows for the development of gender and cross-cultural sensitivity, which are essential to a successful career in the public safety community. The residence rooms are single occupancy, with private bathrooms, cable TV, minifridge, Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and are located on site in Slemon Park. A meal plan is included in the residence fees. Students are provided with 14 meals a week: breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday, breakfast and lunch on Friday.

The distributed learning model offers the practicing Primary Care Paramedic the opportunity to complete most of their Advanced Care Paramedic studies in a distance delivery format. The program mirrors the oneyear Advanced Care Paramedicine on-site program, but distributes the program over two years. In the first year and a half of the program, students complete three semesters of online learning modules via the Holland College Learning Management System, SAM. Students are required to attend three, two-week lab and testing sessions on site in Charlottetown, and prescribed hospital clinical and ambulance practicum shifts.
Our Resident Care Worker program provides a strong foundation in adult health care to prepare you to work in long term care (nursing homes), acute care (hospitals), mental health facilities and community agencies. In this program, you will learn everything needed in order to enter one of the fastestgrowing manufacturing sectors in Canada.
