Coming to Holland College was the best decision I ever made. I am currently a second-year Accounting Technology student as well as a graduate of the Business Administration program. My first two years at the college were an amazing experience! I made tons of friends, and started helping with the Student Unionâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Student Association early in my first year. At Holland College you are surrounded by talented staff and students who are eager to help you with anything you need. Holland College is renowned for its small class sizes and one on one attention, allowing for a unique and productive learning environment. The Holland College Student Union is the voice of students across all of our campuses. We provide services such as a health and dental plan, Aspiria Counselling service, and two nurse practitioners. We also plan and host events that all students are encouraged to attend, and are always a great time! We are always looking for new, fresh ideas and would love to hear from you. Degree pathways such as articulation agreements and transfer credits give you the opportunity to begin your studies at one institution and finish at another. Holland College has more than 150 agreements with universities and other post-secondary institutions across Canada, in the U.S. and overseas. These articulation agreements give you the opportunity to earn a university degree in as little as two years after you have your Holland College diploma. ACC R E D I T E D P R O G R A M Accredited programs are recognized across Canada as having met national academic standards. If you are planning to work in Canada, a diploma from a nationally accredited program will ensure that you receive full credit for your training, regardless of where you go. D I S TA N C E E D U C AT I O N Programs that offer a distance education option give students who cannot attend classes on campus the opportunity to continue their education via the Internet, off-site in their home or office, or by a combination of delivery methods such as a blend of classroom time and online learning. If you are unable to relocate to attend college, or are working full time but would still like to upgrade your skills, one of these programs may be just what you need.

APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING Apprenticeship training begins after you finish your program at Holland College and are working full time with a suitable employer. When you are working with a suitable employer, you register as an apprentice, and Apprenticeship PEI gives you credit for the hours earned and block exams passed while you were at Holland College. Each trade has a certain number of hours an apprentice must complete before he or she can take block training and move up to the next level. Once you have completed the required number of blocks and worked the required number of hours for your trade, you can earn your Interprovincial Red Seal by passing an exam. An Interprovincial Red Seal, which is the mark of excellence and the designation most employers will ask for, gives you the ability to work anywhere in Canada. The most successful path to an Interprovincial Red Seal begins with a full-time Holland College program. For more information about apprenticeship training in PEI visit apprenticeship.pe.ca. HOW T O A PPLY The application review date is February 28, however, applications are accepted throughout the year. You can apply online, by mail, or at any Holland College location. SELECTION PROCESS Holland College accepts the most qualified applicants based on academics and relevant work and volunteer experience. Priority in acceptance is given to applications received by the application review date for each program. For most programs with September start dates, applicants selected in the first round will be informed of the status of their application by the Admissions Office by the end of March. All applicants are able to access WebAdvisor to check their status online at any time by following the directions provided from the Admissions Office. After the first round of selection, and as seats become available, Holland College continues to fill seats with the most qualified applicants, based on academics and relevant work and volunteer experience. If an applicant is not successful in gaining acceptance into their program of choice, they may request that their application be considered for the following year; or they may contact the Admissions Office to review other options. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Holland College policy requires that the college establish specific prerequisites and selection criteria for each program to ensure that applicants are adequately prepared to be successful in those programs. Therefore, the prerequisites for specific programs may vary considerably. All admission requirements for each program are detailed on the programâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s website.

HURRICANE

Holland Hurricanes sports teams are a great source of pride for Holland College. The athletics program provides students with the opportunity to participate in high level competition. The Hurricanes (’Canes) have achieved tremendous success on the regional and national stage. Holland College has quickly gained a reputation as a school with a winning attitude through the results garnered by the ’Canes athletic program. Our varsity teams represent Holland College in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Holland Hurricanes are the back to back national award winner with the most Academic All-Canadians in the CCAA. We also offer club level sports and a variety of recreational and intramural offerings. The home of the ’Canes is the Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) on the Prince of Wales Campus. The CCE also features a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a cardio room, a walking and running track, a dance studio, meeting rooms, and classrooms. A DU LT E DUC AT ION Need to upgrade your academic marks or obtain a credit to get into your program of choice? Learn in a supportive and friendly environment and get closer to accomplishing your goals! Complete or upgrade high school credits in order to enter post-secondary or skills training programs, or prepare to write your GED exam. You can attend during the day or evening, depending on your other commitments, in centres across the province. The following programs are available: P R E PA R AT I O N F O R T H E G E D E X A M The GED exam gives adults who have not graduated from high school the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The GED preparatory class helps you prepare for the GED exam by providing a general review of basic academic skills. Subjects covered include writing, social studies, science, literature and mathematics. Adult Education now has four GED computer based testing centres across PEI. HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS You can acquire high school credits or upgrade existing marks to meet the admission requirements of post-secondary institutions or to complete requirements for the PEI High School Graduation Certificate for Mature Students. GLENDENNING HALL Living in residence is a great way to get the most out of college life. Glendenning Hall is a 186-bed apartment-style residence located on the college’s Prince of Wales Campus. The residence has one, two, and three bedroom furnished units, each with its own kitchenette and bathroom.

Apply early for both your program and a room in residence. Glendenning Hall is in high demand and space is very limited. You will only be accepted into residence after you have been accepted into a college program by the Admissions Office. You are encouraged to find your own roommates, but if you cannot, you will be matched as closely as possible based on the profiles (age, gender, program of study, hobbies, etc.) each applicant submits. S L E M O N PA R K All cadets enrolled in programs at the Atlantic Police Academy (APA) are required to live in the APA’s residence, except for when they are in the on the job training portion of their programs. The residence rooms are single occupancy with private bath, cable TV, mini-fridge, wired Internet and air conditioning (in season), and are located on site in Slemon Park. OFF CAMPUS Ancillary Services maintains a list of off campus accommodations for Charlottetown, Summerside, Georgetown, O’Leary, Tignish, and Alberton. A B O U T P R I N C E E DWA R D I S L A N D Located off the east coast of mainland Canada in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, PEI has a population of 140,000. It is 224 km (140 miles) long and from 6 to 64 km (4 to 40 miles) wide. The Island is accessible by air, ferry and via the nine-mile long Confederation Bridge. As a wildlife conservation technician, the great outdoors is your office and your co-workers could be insects, fish, birds, or raccoons! One day you could be banding birds to monitor the population level; on another, using sophisticated GPS equipment to track an animal’s movements. After that, you’re in the lab testing water samples as part of a study on a particular habitat. Along with having a love of nature, you’ll have to be physically fit: field training labs involve snowshoeing, boating, and hiking over difficult terrain while carrying equipment. Since the Atlantic Police Academy (APA), a division of Holland College, opened its doors in 1971, thousands of law enforcement professionals, firefighters, and correctional officers have received the training they needed to enter and remain in the field. In addition to the Police Science (Cadet) program, the APA offers Basic Firefighting, Conservation Enforcement, Corrections, and Sheriff and Public Safety programs. All programs at the Atlantic Police Academy have mandatory residential requirements. As a student, you must live in the APA’s residence for the duration of the training, except when you are doing on the job training. The residential environment serves as a training lab, providing experiential learning that would not be possible if students only interacted with one another in an instructional setting. Residence life allows students to develop skills in teamwork, problem solving, time management and communications, and allows for the development of gender and cross-cultural sensitivity, which are essential to a successful career in the public safety community. The residence rooms are single occupancy, with private bathrooms, cable TV, minifridge, Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and are located on site in Slemon Park. A meal plan is included in the residence fees. Students are provided with 14 meals a week: breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday, breakfast and lunch on Friday.

In the Atlantic Police Academy’s Basic Firefighting program, you will learn the fundamental skills needed to keep yourself, your colleagues, and the public safe in critical situations. Training at an off-campus site offers you real-life firefighting experience in a controlled environment. These training simulations provide you with essential knowledge on fire behaviour, motor vehicle extraction, medical first response and communication. This program builds on your experience as a primary care paramedic. Then you’ll take this theory into the field with two hospital clinical rotations and one on the job placement. This one-year program will give you a fundamental knowledge of electricity and its applications and prepare you to work in residential and commercial settings assembling, installing, testing, maintaining, servicing, and operating various electrical systems and equipment. Working with electricity requires specialized skills. You will move from the classroom to the lab getting plenty of hands-on experience installing power and lighting systems, signal and alarm systems, emergency lighting, communication equipment, motors, and automation and control systems. All the while you’ll be learning how to follow the National Building Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and other safety requirements.

In this program you’ll get hands-on training that counts toward your Red Seal designation as an industrial electrician, industrial millwright or instrumentation and control technician.
