A YEAR IN REVIEW
SHAPING THE FUTURE TOGETHER 2014-2015 ANNUAL REPORT
Hello friends, A picture is worth a thousand words and behind every face, there is a story. Inpatient units, treatment rooms, rehab gyms, research labs and boardrooms are filled with clinicians, scientists, clients and families working towards one goal – to improve the lives of children with disabilities and create a world of possibility. The faces you see in our 2014-2015 annual report are a snap shot of what we see in the halls and grounds of the hospital every day. They paint a picture of what really matters. It has been an incredible year for Holland Bloorview, filled with new beginnings and Canadian firsts. We are driven by a commitment and passion to put children and families first. We are incredibly proud of our new partnership with the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, marking a Canadian first and joining over 475 international health centres to ensure all clients receive compassionate care. We have developed and launched one of the country’s most comprehensive e-health solutions – providing families with the information they need to manage their child’s health-care online. The Bloorview Research Institute has made incredible strides advancing a number of products and studies that directly lead to improving the lives of kids with disabilities. Our Teaching and Learning Institute continues to evolve, optimizing the student experience so they become world-class providers. As we embark on the third year of our strategic plan Leadership in Childhood Disability: 2012-2017 we are inspired by the progress we have made and how far we have come. Our strategic directions – Transform Care, Lead the System, Accelerate Knowledge, Inspire our People – have become a galvanizing force for everything we do. Our future is bright and we are confident the best is yet to come.

International experts at the Bloorview Research Institute are working to understand how a child’s genetic makeup affects brain development, function and behaviour with the goal of uncovering new ways to protect the brain from further risk and improve quality of life for children with autism and their families.
Helping families access studies that are relevant to them, the Bloorview Research Institute has developed a system-leading online directory. With just a few clicks, clients can find information on over a hundred studies taking place at Holland Bloorview.

“
Ensuring the core principles of client and family centred care – respect and dignity, information sharing, partnership and quality of care – are embedded into everyday practice, all new clinicians at Holland Bloorview participate in simulation-based training. The first among industry peers to use simulations in this way, the hospital was recently recognized with a 20 Faces of Change Award from The Change Foundation.
