ABOUT ME

HOLLY MUELLER INTERIOR DESIGN

My name is Holly Mueller and I graduated from the Interior Design program at Kirkwood Community College in May of 2021. I discovered a passion for design at a young age and enjoyed putting my creative mind to work. After doing research and talking to design professionals, I realized the path of interior design was right for me. Design is much more than aesthetics, it is also about function, quality, and beauty. After graduating in May, I will pursue a full time career as a Draftsperson / Designer at McCreedy-Ruth Construction in Riverside, IA. I look forward to creating and providing spaces that fit the needs of all individuals and to see my work come to life.

PROJECT SUMMARY Brooks and Jillissa Moorman wanted to build their dream home to accommodate their 4 children. I received a craftsman floor plan to design and fit the requirements of their family and that could be featured in the 2021 Parade of Homes. After many client meetings it was made clear that each of their children needed to have their own room that was designed specifically for their personality and needs. Their family was also in need of an ample amount of storage and space, as they often host family and friends.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The clients for this project wanted a 2-3 bedroom summer home located in Bergen, Norway. Along with featuring local design and architecture, they wanted to source as many materials and furniture from that region as possible. The clients have very minimal design aesthetic and aren’t set on a specific design style. Their end goal is to use this home as an Airbnb when they are not staying there.

PROJECT SUMMARY This bathroom was designed for the Doshi / O’Brien family who bought a home in upstate New York and were in need of a more functional space. Their home only had one full bathroom upstairs, and as their daughter gets older and the grandparents visit more often, they were in need of a more accessible bathroom on the first floor. They wanted their bathroom to be both functional and serene and have a sense of luxury.

The concept for The Avalon was created by combining influences from Raphael and King Arthur, using elements from each of their time periods. The Avalon’s features include columns, crystal chandeliers, marble floors, solid woods, and rich colors. This hotel has a complimentary color scheme, including shades of green and red with gold accents.

WEST HAVEN ELEMENTARY LOCATION: West Haven, Utah DATE: Spring 2021 TIME FRAME: 3 Weeks PROJECT TYPE: Group project with Hannah DePover SOFTWARE: Revit, SketchUp, Lumion, InDesign, Photoshop

39

PROJECT SUMMARY For this project, we were tasked to design a kindergarten through fourth grade elementary school in West Haven, Utah. We designed a common classroom plan that will be used throughout the entire building as well as the interior of a media center located in the heart of the school. This space was designed to be welcoming and versatile for all students, parents, and staff at West Haven Elementary and included design influence from Utah’s iconic desert rock formations and local plant life.

40

CONCEPTUAL IMAGERY

Designed after the red rocks and native sage leaves of the Utah desert, we wanted to create a feeling of warmth and growth in the West Haven Elementary School. Growth is an important factor in education and we displayed that by using live greenery and architecture that looks as though it was formed from the building itself. We used a combination of a soothing sage green mixed with the playful orange tone seen in the archways and canyons of Utah’s state parks.
