Q:
My girlfriend of almost two years has gained a little bit of weight since turning 21. She is always complaining about it, even though I tell her she looks great and that I love her just the way she is. How can I convince her that she’s still -Jon, 22 beautiful?
A:
Okay, put down the posters and XL sharpie, because it is time to call of the campaign. As sweet as it is to tell her she’s beautiful and that you will love her no matter her size, there’s not a chance in hell you’ll convince her to agree. We’re girls, and with that come insecurities, we will never be entirely happy with our bodies. That said, you should still compliment her and make her feel important It’s also important that you don’t under any circumstances compliment what has changed. Saying, “I love your curves,” translates to, “Babe, even though you’ve gotten fat, I still love you.” On another note, if she is serious about making changes, say something like, “I love you the way you are, but if it would make you feel better, I’ll work out with you, that way we could spend some more time together too.” All in all, it is important to reassure her that she doesn’t in any way turn you off, but that if she wants help you are there for support.
Q:
I met this girl about 4 months ago, and we both agreed to just have “casual fun.” For the first couple of months we spent a lot of time together, but it was mainly out at parties and bars. Now I think she is starting to want something a little more serious, and honestly I don’t. I don’t want to hurt her and end things, but I don’t want to lead her on either. What do I do?

All right Jared, I have a few things to say that you’re probably not going to like, so be prepared. I want to start out by saying, agreements like this never last forever, and they always end with someone getting hurt, and in your case it seems like it’s going be her. The moment you noticed her developing an attachment, was when you needed to go all in or back out for good. Whether or not this agreement was shook on, feelings have changed therefore the deal changes. You cannot, I repeat cannot have the best of both worlds. So, the relationship needs to end, or move on to the next level. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s the truth. I hope it helps.

My girlfriend and I are taking a break in order to concentrate more on our first semester of college. What are the do’s and don’ts of a break, and how do I know if it’s time for us to move on?
A:

Do communicate with eachother and don’t hide anything. Every relationship and every “break” is different but I suggest talking to her for the best answers. It’s important to find out what this break means according to the two of you, and no one else. I’ve seen breaks where couples were seeing other people, and I’ve seen breaks that were just that a break, they spent time apart, but other people were entirely out of the picture. As far as moving on goes, there’s no real answer. But when you know, you’ll know. It’s likely that the reason you asked for a break has more to do with just wanting to concentrate on school. Once you discover that, you’ll be able to see more into the situation and answer your own questions.

game day parties Playing the role of party host for a football watch party is a huge responsibility for all fans and unless you are fully prepared, the party could be a disaster. Of course, the game is the main attraction, but watching the action on the screen can be completely changed by the right—or wrong—party. Follow this short list of Do’s and Don’ts to ensure that your friends won’t be looking for a different party for next weekend’s game.

DO MAKE INTRODUCTIONS. Typically, your guests will already know each other. However, if you are inviting people from different areas of your life, there will be people there who have never met. In this situation it is your responsibility to be the proper host and make sure no one feels awkward or uncomfortable. Introduce people as they come and find common interests between them, such as which team they are rooting for. It gives them things to talk about while you are entertaining other guests.
DON’T BE SKEET WITH THE FOOD. Food is expensive, but you did choose to host the party. If your guests show up and notice no food, they may feel un-appreciated, or even feel that you may have forgotten about the event all together. Besides, do you really want to be making 50 Taco Bell runs during crucial points of the game? Didn’t think so. Food is as synonymous with a watch party as the game itself. If the party is lacking in the food department, don’t expect too many guests to be returning next weekend.
DO MAKE IT A POTLUCK. If you are overwhelmed with the responsibilities of planning and catering your event then make it a potluck. Ask guest to help out by bringing their favorite dish or drink. It also helps ensure that every guest has something to snack on that they enjoy. Potlucks are common, and will not dissuade your friends from attending the party.
DON’T BE A POOR SPORT. Whether your team is wining or losing, always, be a good sport about it. Being a good sport is especially important if people in your group are cheering for opposing teams. How would you feel if your friends were throwing it in your face that their team beat yours. Not cool.
DO PLAN FOR RIDES HOME. In order to be a proper host, it is your responsibility to have plans for those who have had too much to drink. If you live in an urban area arrange for taxis, or other driving services. If that won’t work for your area or group make sure to have plenty of blankets and pillows for your guests to sleep over if need be.
DON’T DRINK TOO MUCH. Yes, everyone at the party wants to have a good time, however one guest’s excessive drinking can easily ruin the party. This isn’t to say that everyone needs a limit that results in a padlock on the fridge. However, maybe instead, set an example by taking the drinking slowly yourself. Being sloppy drunk can only impede your ability to be a great host.

She’s been amazing television viewers in every segment of television for years. She has most recently made quite an impression as the co-star of one of ABC’s newest sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls. But maybe Kat Dennings wowed you as Darcy Lewis, the short-tempered assistant of Jane Foster in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor of 2011. Or maybe your first impression of her came when you heard her voice over in 2 of Comedy Central’s most popular animated features, American Dad or Robot Chicken. No matter when you noticed the knockout, it stands to reason that 27-year-old Kat Dennings, only started to catch everyone’s attention in the past couple of years.

t’s late August, and there is nothing on television except for the news and crappy reruns. So, what the hell are you supposed to watch before the new series start in September? We can solve that; here are some series suggestions to add to your Hulu or Netflix marathons that will have you glued to your couch.
1.The Walking Dead
If you haven’t yet, it’s time to start watching The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead is a horror drama television series based on the comic book series of the same name. The series follows Rick Grimes, a Sherriff’s deputy who awakens from a coma to find a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating “walkers”, also known as zombies. 2.Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is an American epic fantasy series on HBO. It’s a revision of a series of fantasy novels, A song of Ice and Fire. The series is set in the imaginary continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade long summer, and interlocks several different plot lines. The first plot line follows the members of numerous noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. Through its ethically ambiguous characters the series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, civil war, sexuality, crime and punishment.

3. The Following
The Following is a brand new series on Fox starring Kevin Bacon. The series follows Ryan Hardy, a former FBI agent who finds himself in the middle of a network of serial killers. The cult-like network is created by a diabolical serial killer, Joe Carroll, who uses his charisma and the Internet to create the network right from his jail cell. LOLLAPALOOZA LIFESTYLE
It is one of the greatest things to happen to the Midwest in musical history. It is a super-charged version of any other typical concert or festival, and has been growing in popularity for 22 years. The event is Lollapalooza, a 3-day event that has everyone preparing as well as reminiscing. Ace contributor reports on the event, sharing personal stories from young fans that attended Lollapalooza in 2012. WRITTEN BY: HOLLY COOK

he 2013 Lollapalooza festival will be held on over 155 acres of land in Grant Park, boarding Michigan Avenue, and Monroe Street of Chicago, IL. Over the span of three days, Friday August 2nd, through Sunday August 4th the festival will be filled with non-stop action and have the streets filled with booths, exhibits, an estimated 70 artists, 5 elaborate stages and crowded with a myriad of more than 160,000 fans. This year makes for the 22nd annual Lollapalooza Festival, but to many fans it is much more than a festival. “It’s so much more than that [a festival] it’s all about lifestyle and tradition. If you come once you’ll always go back,” says Peter Jackson, a 21-year old college junior, and religious attendee of Lollapalooza. “It’s a massive event, and words cannot do it justice, you would have to actually experience it yourself to understand,” says Jackson.
The 4 young men quickly started snow-balling off each other’s stories, and told their accounts of the festival that were unimaginable, and surprisingly shocking. One story in particular was about Jules Jackson, Peter Jackson’s younger brother, who had a very intriguing story about the crowd surf he completed during The Red Hot Chili Peppers performance. “I didn’t even know what was happening,” said Jules, “One second I was on the ground, and the next second someone had lifted me up and I was surfing the crowd, it’s something I never could have imagined, and never will forget.”
Jules shared that he had never thought he would be the one fan out of thousands to be crowd surfing during any concert, but he was especially surprised to be doing it at Lollapalooza, “It’s definitely something I can check off my bucket list,” he said

Jackson attended the 2012 Lollapalooza festival with his younger brother and two close friends he met his freshman year of high school. “The four of us have been going ever since our junior year [of high school], and every year we have a story to tell better than the last,” Jackson said.
Jackson chuckled and said, “He’s not even exaggerating, we just sat on a hill and didn’t speak a word, we were in complete awe.”

Marshal Lansford, one of Jackson’s close friends explains the details of their most recent trip to Grant Park for Lollapalooza in 2012, “During the 6 hour car ride from St. Louis, all we wanted to do was check into the hotel and nap. But, once we got there and saw the setting up of the stages we immediately changed our minds. We just sat there for hours taking it all in and drinking a couple of beers. We couldn’t wait for the festival to begin.”

just a few short years Reggie Yates has gone from children’s television presenter to a well-established style icon, as a model for catwalk shows, and presented as ‘Most Stylish Men of the Week’ by GQ. Will.i.am has even gone as far as to refer to Yates as the “Fashion Obama” because of his interesting flare for men’s fashion. He is known for raising the bar, and dressing appropriately for any occasion, whether it is a suit and tie, or laid back denim vest and khakis.

Best know for his role in Star Wars, McGregor has recently established himself as one of Hollywood’s leading men. known stereotype of our current generation is that the art of being a gentleman has become archaic for young men. The concept of “The gentleman” has been around for hundreds of years, and men who follow the lifestyle of a gentleman have lived happy, healthy, and successful lives. The core of being a gentleman is all about respect, style, courtesy, decency and last but definitely not least chivalry. These traits are so admirable, and any man who holds them will have everyone look up to him and women will find him irresistibly attractive. However, with the lifestyle fading, young men in current generations are not being taught about the skills needed to fulfill this particular life style. Jake Cook, a college junior said, “Guys usually think being a gentleman means being the “nice guy”, and being the nice guy makes you a pushover.” He continued to explain why this is far from the truth.

eing a gentleman means so much more than saying please and thak you, using appropriate table manners, and being the one who tries to please everyone. “It means carrying yourself with confidence and making sure there is respect and care in every decision you make, and every action you take.” The word confidence can be interpreted in many ways, but the type of confidence Cook is trying to drill in your brain doesn’t mean you have to be the bad boy, or the boy who is too good for every girl in the bar. He is trying to portray the confidence one has when they are perfectly fine with themselves, and others around them. This man in not the one to pass judgment or belittle others. “In any situation you should always be the better

person. Judging anyone only causes pain for everyone who is involved,” Cook said. “I always get so aggravated when someone says chivalry is dead,” Cook says, “It’s not, it’s just rare. I hate that the ass-holes can ruin it for the rest of us good guys.” Two years ago at a house party, Cook was engaged in a conversation with a group of people. During this interaction there was one guy in particular who was acting boastful, arrogant, and extremely insensitive to others around him. Cook took it upon himself to direct the focus of the group away from the man. “There were moments where I wanted to deck this guy, but instead I walked the guy to the kitchen and distracted him by asking him to make the ladies some drinks.”
It means carrying yourself with confidence and making sure there is respect and care in every decision you make.
After returning to the group, Simon found out that the man was an ex-boyfriend of Michelle, one of the girls in the group, who was feeling really uncomfortable by the situation her ex was causing. “She thanked me for helping diverge the situation and not making it worse, we’ve been together ever since.” This was the point in Cook’s life when he realized being the gentleman actually does pay off. “It gave me the upper hand, and it was a complete disadvantage for the other guy to be crude”, said Cook. Being a gentleman doesn’t happen overnight, it takes learning, and serious practice. It is not something you can research. There is no way any one person can know before hand how to act like a gentleman in every situation life may throw him. However, it is important that you prepare youself as much as possible. “There is no true ‘guide.’ on how to be a gentleman. It has to become second nature, it just needs to be a part of who you are.” Cook said. FALL 2013 ACE.COM 35
