I chose to use tac>le typography for the book designs because it is more interac>ve and being a kids book they prefer to be more hands on. By having tac>le typography they will be more draw to the book especially because it s>ll looks like a kids book.

Rudyard Kipling was an English author. Famous for his works: Just so Stories. The Jungle Book and Gunga Din. He recived The Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907.
The Jungle Book front cover was made out of a collage of leaves stuck onto green painted paper. The le7er forms were then cut out with a stanley knife. Brown paper was then placed under and a picture was taken. The same process was taken for the back cover but instead of cuFng out le7er forms a circle was cut and more leave placed around the edge of the brown paper. The other text was added to the images on the computer. The typography added on the computer was in a jungle front but s>ll easy to read by kids.
The layered leaves gives it a forest look. I chose to do that because I wanted to represent the story into the cover so kids could get a visual representa>on of what the book would be about just by looking at it. The brown added in gives it an earthy look and fits in with the forest theme.
The new book design of Rapunzel was made using the hair of a young girl. The girl was lying on a pink bed sheet and the hair was shaped into the le7ers, then photographed. For the back of the book the hair was just placed differently. Like the jungle book text was also added on the computer.
The story of Rapunzel focused on her very long hair. Using the hair on the new book cover design helped symbolize the basis of the story. Using the pink bed sheet it allowed the girly style to be brought out, considering Rapunzel is a girl.

Alvin’s Daydreams process started with cuFng out the le7erforms and dream cloud. Placing them out on a flat surface aluminum foil was placed over the top and pressed into the le7er forms.
The design was made out of aluminum foil to reflect the storyline of Alvin’s out of space daydreams. Aluminum foil is commonly used when referring to out of space. I also included a dream cloud that the text was placed on to incorporate the dream aspect.
It is a hard cover book because of it being part of a collectable series which is to be kept. Hard cover books are used to keep longer. Also because it is being handle by kids the cover will not rip and the inside content will be more protected. The cover can last through spilt drink or food and therefore by having the cover hard it is best for the li7le golden book series because it is a book to be kept and handed down to your children’s children. With the stories from the 1940’s they are s>ll alive.
