Computer & IT News
Ask Craig... Q I’ve upgraded my computer recently and need a new Office suite, can you help? A Many of us use Office suites on our computers. The most popular one being Microsoft Office - Home and Student, which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Microsoft is now trying to move users onto paying a monthly subscription fee for office called Office 365 Home as opposed to buying it outright. This allows you to use it on up to 5 computers and you get free upgrades when new versions are released, plus extra Office components, Access, Publisher and Outlook 2016. Office 365 Personal is slightly cheaper but allows just one computer installation of Office. However there are alternative free Office suites available that are Microsoft compatible and free to download. Two of the most popular are LibreOffice and Apache Open Office. You will find them on any google search and for most users will be more than adequate for your needs and completely free! For further information and IT advice, call Craig at Holme Start Computers, 07881 624372

Ask Andrew... financial queries made simple
Q. We are in the process of buying our next home and have spoken with our bank. They have mentioned the documentation that will need to be provided and they seem to need much more information than we have been asked for previously. The whole process appears to be very onerous given that we are not borrowing any more money. Do they really need all of this extra information? A. The review of the mortgage market conducted in recent years has resulted in certain actions and requirements including that mortgage lenders need to update the application process to be more affordability based, both now and in the future. Your bank may require updated documents to evidence these requirements and they may need you to make an appointment with an adviser who can advise on the bank’s own mortgage options and who can help to complete the application. *our typical fee for mortgage advice is £250. *Your home may be repossessed if you don’t keep up repayments on your mortgage.
