Changing Children's Lives Forever 2009 Annual Report

...“For I assisted the poor in their need, and the orphans who required

help.”

— Job 29:12

Mei*—China This sweet little girl needs a family, but because she has a seizure disorder, it’s not easy to find the right family. Many of Holt’s children have other medical conditions, are older or in sibling groups. We are committed to uniting these “waiting children” with families of their own.

Petch*—Thailand Petch’s mother struggled financially after the loss of her business and was planning on making Petch available for adoption. But since Holt provided her with clothes and baby supplies, she has been able to provide appropriate care for her precious son and plans to raise him herself. “The support from Holt has given me hope,” she says.

Shinshicho Clinic—Ethiopia Recently widowed, this mother now raises two very small, sick children all on her own. The Holt-funded Shinshicho clinic is able to provide help and hope to families like these. The woman and her baby, after receiving care at the clinic, both tested positive for HIV and are now receiving the care they desperately need.

Holt International is dedicated to carrying out God’s plan for every child to have a permanent, loving family.

into our hands

On a recent trip to India, I met a young girl in foster care who deeply touched my heart. Abandoned at a general hospital, Manasa was brought into care when she was only four days old. Today, as you can see in her beautiful smile, Manasa is a happy and cheerful girl who feels the love of her foster family and the benefits of living in a warm and safe home. As I held her in my arms and witnessed just how far she had come in three years, I felt a great sense of gratitude for the loving caretakers and the care that Holt provides children all over the world. Because of this profound love provided to Manasa, she will soon go home to her permanent family in the United States. Manasa’s story is just one example of the care that Holt provides to orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children. Whether it’s through our Child Sponsorship Program, family preservation projects or our devoted advocacy for children with special needs, Holt will always do everything in our power to make sure that children, like Manasa, are not forgotten. In the following pages we include a brief summary of Holt’s 2009 achievements and finances. We focus our efforts on individual children and strive to find the best permanent home for each one. The statistics on the following pages are more than just numbers…they represent children whose lives are being changed forever. These accomplishments would not have been possible had it not been for the continual prayers and support from generous donors, Holt adoptive families and our colleagues around the world who have so selflessly provided for the vulnerable children in our care. We had a lot to be grateful for in 2009. Just like the little girl I held at the orphanage in India, we will care for and nurture children until each one knows the love that only a permanent family can provide. On behalf of Holt International and the children we serve, I thank you for making a difference in children’s lives. You help us to ensure that children are loved, cared for and never forgotten. Thank you, and God bless,
