Living Rooms: cosy comfort

DESIGNING YOUR LIVING ROOM THIS WINTER
Winter is here and Christmas is just around the corner, which means a gradual retreat to living rooms to entertain guests in the comfort of our indoors or to enjoy quiet cosy evenings on the sofa reading a good book or relaxing in front of the TV. The trend for low, deep, chunky sofas has taken the market by storm, allowing you to lounge more casually and inviting you to put your feet up on the sofa. Modular seating has also become increasingly popular, offering multiple ways to arrange seating in the available living space. Pouffes and ottomans are always handy for adding extra seating when unexpected guests come by and they can also double-up as side tables when necessary. Your living room should be uncluttered, so ensure that people can walk around freely without banging into furniture. Maintaining the room visually organised requires some thought, and making sure your furniture doesn’t drown-out the space is a key factor. An oversized sofa or coffee table can get all the proportions and composition wrong, jarring the overall harmony of the room. If space is limited, tables with built-in shelving below could be a real help to keep surfaces clear, and you should also avoid large patterns on your furniture’s upholstery that can make the room look overly “busy”. When designing your living room, make it reflect your own style and focus on comfort so that everyone who enters feels immediately relaxed. Adding textural elements such as a rug, a couple of throws and some large cushions can be a simple and convenient way to make the room feel instantly more inviting.
