Home Instead celebrates talented CAREGiver Home Instead Senior Care, a local at-home care provider in York, loves to celebrate their talented and successful CAREGivers at every opportunity. Jackie Midgley (54), who has been working as a CAREGiver for Home Instead for over a year, has also been a thriving artist for 15 years and has recently been chosen to exhibit her art work for the York Open Studios annual event. The event aims to raise awareness of artists within a ten mile radius of York. The chosen artists open their studios for two weekends, giving the public the opportunity to visit exhibitions and buy art directly from the makers. Jackie Midgley explained, “I have always enjoyed painting since being a young child and I won my first art competition at the age of 12. I studied for a degree in painting in 2000, but family life has always been my priority. Now my children are grown up, I’ve decided to get back into painting and that’s why I applied for the York Open Studios event.” Luke Norbury, owner of Home Instead York & Ryedale

Luke Norbury, owner of Home Instead York & Ryedale with Jackie Midgley, CAREGiver and talented artist. commented, “Jackie is a credit to our Home Instead team, she has a great relationship with all of her clients and is a pleasure to be around. We are so proud that she has made it through to showcase her artwork. Not only is she a caring and compassionate person, she is also a fantastic artist, and we’re encouraging her to introduce art to the clients here at Home Instead.” Home Instead Senior Care welcomes anyone with a passion to help and care for people in the local community. Many of our CAREGivers come from diverse backgrounds, with lots of life skills and with the help and extensive training from the Home Instead team, they thrive in a fulfilling care role.

How are we doing? At Home Instead we strive to provide the highest possible quality care service. Care that is compassionate, responsive, empathetic and reliable. We are rated the No1 care provider by healthcare intelligence experts LaingBuisson®, however we never want to rest on our laurels. It is our aim to continuously improve and that includes changing the things you tell us we are not doing so well at and keep doing the things that you say that we are, but doing them even better.

You’ll shortly be receiving a questionnaire by post or email, which we ask that you take a few moments to complete. Please share your feedback with us so that we can understand what steps we need to

take to make Home Instead an even more admirable home care provider. It really will help us to make a huge difference in what we do to go the extra mile in meeting all the needs of our clients. The survey is anonymous so we encourage people to be open and honest with their feedback. We look forward to your response and are committed to acting on your feedback.

Home Instead’s new scarecrow recruit For the first time Home Instead entered the Haxby & Wigginton Scarecrow Festival which is run by Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church and annually raises over £4,500 for St Leonards Hospice and smaller local charities. The Home Instead Superhero themed scarecrow was designed by Karen Skouras our Recruiter with help from her Dad Peter. Karen has entered the event previously and said that Home Instead superhero CAREGivers were her inspiration this year although her scarecrow does bare a remarkable likeness to Andy our Head of CAREGiver Experience who she shares an office with! It’s hoped that our scarecrow could go on a tour as York now has a number of Scarecrow Festivals so watch out for an appearance at a trail near you. More information and photos of the Haxby and Wigginton event can be found at www.haxbyandwiggintonmethodistchurch.org.uk

Dementia Friends – Helping to create dementia friendly communities Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society led initiative which aims to increase dementia awareness and change the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about dementia. Here at Home Instead York & Ryedale three of the team Luke, Andy and Karen are our Dementia Friends Champions, they are trained volunteers who encourage their family, friends, colleagues and local community to understand a little bit more about dementia, what it’s like to live with dementia and then turn that understanding into action. Our Dementia Friends Champions are available to deliver a free one-hour information session to the public, in which they will learn more about dementia and how they can help to create dementia friendly communities. If you would like to find out more about Dementia Friends, please visit dementiafriends.org.uk or contact the Home Instead office on 01904 690884 to enquire about our free upcoming workshops.

Home Instead recognised with Queen’s Award for Enterprise As the UK’s No 1 private homecare provider and No 1 homecare franchisor, our commitment to elevating and innovating elder care standards has underlined our business journey at every step over the last decade. The award from Her Majesty The Queen recognises our brand’s contribution to society, which helps thousands of elderly people continue to live in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, happily and healthily for as long as possible. A total of 249 businesses were named this year. Home Instead’s award for Innovation has been made in recognition of our unique model of companionship-based home care. The award organisers clearly recognise the relevance of our care model in today’s society and the benefits of clients receiving care visits of a minimum one hour in duration, delivered by familiar CAREGivers who are hand-picked to work with our

We are also proud that the company has won many awards, as have many of our CAREGivers, in recognition of the quality of care we provide. clients based on shared interests. Co-founders Sam and Trevor Brocklebank brought the Home Instead ethos to the UK after experiencing poor care when Trevor’s grandfather Frank needed support. They knew there had to be a better way for an ageing population to receive care, a way to provide a quality experience that helps older people

continue to live happily and healthily in the comfort of their own homes as long as possible. We are proud to deliver Home Instead’s service locally across York and Ryedale. Home Instead was launched in the UK in 2005 and was brought to York in 2009. Since then the brand has grown to a national network of 175 offices, caring for 8,000 clients, providing five million hours of care each year. We are also proud that the company has won many awards, as have many of our CAREGivers, in recognition of the quality of care we provide. It is our declared mission to change the face of ageing and this award is proof that we are well on our way to achieving this aim. The recognition this award brings is fantastic for us but it is also a good news story for the home care sector as a whole, bringing greater awareness of a new kind of home care, fit for the 21st century.
