Mankato - The Bend of the River Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association once again will be collecting deer hides this fall for the Hides for Habitat program. Hides for Habitat gives hunters an opportunity to donate their hides to MDHA who then sells them and invests the money in habitat restoration, land acquisitions, youth education and wildlife research. A percentage of the money raised by the sale of the hides is returned to local chapters to be used for local projects. The 800,000 hides donated to the program have raised almost $4.9 million since the program was started in 1985. Donors should make sure the boxes are laveled as MDHA because there are similar orange boxes in the area that are not affiliated with the organization.
