Thank You

Thomas O’Hara

Welcome to Homeport’s annual celebration! We’re glad you’re here. At Homeport our mission is to create and preserve healthy, stable and affordable communities, one neighborhood, one person at a time. Making real progress in this mission would be impossible without your support. I feel privileged to see what we’ve accomplished together for low- to moderate-income communities over the past year. Thanks to your generous contributions, Homeport has: • Completed 66 rental homes for seniors, with another 52 rental homes to be completed before 2015. These new affordable homes give younger families stability and hope, and allow seniors to age with dignity. • Sold 20 quality, energy efficient single-family homes that have helped revitalize two Columbus neighborhoods. Three more are expected to sell by the end of 2014.

• Provided much needed financial counseling. By the end of summer, we met with 540 families facing foreclosure. That number will likely grow to 850 by year’s end. Over 2,500 children live in Homeport’s communities, 1,600 of whom have access to educational or enrichment services. With your help, we delivered nearly 1,150 backpacks filled with school supplies to our families. We also initiated a nationally-honored literacy program that helps students retain learning and literacy skills over school break. This program provided over 2,000 books to children in Homeport communities. Tonight, as we celebrate your participation as sponsors, donors and volunteers, I encourage you to learn even more about the value of your involvement and to invite others to come alongside us. As many already know, giving meaningfully to families and seniors in Central Ohio is an experience worth sharing. Again, on behalf of all of us at Homeport, and for all those we serve, I sincerely thank you!

Amy Klaben President / CEO, Homeport

Thank You U.S. Bank for supporting the “Army”!

Homeport thanks U.S. Bank for strengthening Columbus families through generous support of the “Army of 1,000” initiative. The “Army of 1,000” is a group of fellow Central Ohioans who have joined with Homeport to combat challenges children face in our community. “Army Members” enlist by donating $25, which helps bring enrichment activities right to the doorstep of kids who need it most. One small gift may not seem like much, but when combined with 999 others, real impact is possible. Consider enlisting — because fighting the challenges kids face takes strength in numbers.

WHAT WE DO

Homeport builds stronger communities through Housing, Education, and Connections to resources. +

+

HOUSING DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATION & COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION FORECLOSURE COUNSELING Homeport builds quality, energy-efficient homes affordable to those who need help the most — including low-wage workers, single-parents, and seniors. Homeport also revitalizes neighborhoods, strategically building in areas plagued by high vacancy and foreclosue.

Homeport teaches families how to get in a home and how to handle the challenge of foreclosure. Classes are also provided for financial literacy and home maintenance, providing the broad tools needed to make the most stable homes possible.

CONNECTIONS TO RESOURCES Homeport connects families to critical resources ranging from school supplies and books, to health fairs and fresh produce, to mentoring and afterschool programming. These connections help families not only stay in their homes, but thrive in them.

A ROOF FOR EVERYONE An idea we’ve shared since we both began. Homeport and M/I believe a roof is more than shingles and wood. Under it, families and dreams are nurtured. Our founders, Melvin and Irving Schottenstein, like Homeport, put those beliefs into action, working to make the American Dream a reality for everyone. Our visions remain one and the same.

Together, let’s reach higher.
