The annual SSCD Lawn Festival is a time to kick back, to relax and reminisce, and to enjoy the company of friends and family. (photos in this issue submitted by Jeff Curtis)

Msgr. Riccardo Proudly th Announces 78 Annual SSCD Lawn Festival

ear Friends, The dates for this year’s Lawn Festival are August 4, 5 and 6. As always, the event takes place on the first full weekend of August, with many familiar booths and specialties we’ve grown accustomed to over the years. The fabulous food from the “Food Shack” and, of course, Frank’s famous Hot Dogs and Hamburgers, funnel cakes, the C. D. of A traditional cake and ice cream with Penn State Creamery ice cream, - including all your favorite flavors, and more!! There will be bingo, kiddyland, the Rosary Altar Society raffle of beautiful quilts, and entertainment each evening –including the Sharp Tones. We are returning to a more traditional Sunday Dinner of past years. The dinner will be served in the auditorium on Sunday, August 6 from 11am – 4pm. The Grand Prize drawing includes 3 large cash prizes with the 1st prize of $12,000, 2nd prize of $6,000, and 3rd prize of $3,000! We will have some very happy winners! I know I say this every year, but our Annual Lawn Festival is not only the

D

C

biggest school fundraiser of the year, it also brings us together as a parish family – with our friends – to relax, have fun, and EAT! I truly believe that our Annual Lawn Festival is a celebration of who we are as a church and school, and reaches the level of a family gathering – a community of life and love – a people of compassion and concern for one another. My own family looks forward every year to coming to Punxsy to be here for the Lawn Festival because it’s fun, and their young kids can’t wait to roam the grounds. The Lawn Festival provides lots of opportunities for our parish, support for the school, a time of fun with our parish family and friends, and a way we can show our charity and fellowship toward one another. Let’s make this Festival, the 78th year, a true CELEBRATION for everyone who attends! God bless you, and thank you for your help. Sincerely, Msgr. Joseph J. Riccardo ◆◆◆

ear Friends, Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church is proud to present our 78th Annual Lawn Festival! Our Lawn Festival began back in 1939 as an Ice Cream Social on our church lawn, and over the years it has

D

grown into a three-day event where members of our church, school, the community of Punxsutawney, and the surrounding area can come together for food, fellowship and fun. The Lawn Festival is one of the major fundraisers to financially support our Catholic School. All proceeds help to defray educational costs in order to keep tuition affordable for families who believe in a strong academic and faith based education. The opportunity to attend the school is available to all children of our community. The parishioners of SSCD Church, and the families of the children attending the

school, would like to thank all of those who support our Festival. Special thanks goes to the Home and School Association, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Knights of Columbus, Rosary Altar Society, St. Vincent de Paul, the Secular Franciscans, school parents and parishioners who work at the Festival, SSCD office staff, and the Festival Committee – all who continually go above and beyond. We greatly appreciate the local businesses which have donated resources and services throughout the year and during the Festival to make this all possible. I would also like to thank Frank Hetrick for his continued support and guidance. Listed in this magazine are all of the events, entertainment, raffles, games, and great food that you’ll find at the Festival. The Grand Prize drawing will be on Sunday night, August 6th, at 10 p.m. All cash prizes this year with three chances to win! SS. Cosmas and Damian Church hopes you’ll join us for our three-day event. Please come, enjoy the bingo, various games, food, and entertainment. Hope to see you there! Renee Doverspike Lawn Festival Chair

t’s that time of the year! Mark your calendar for August 4, 5, and 6 and join the parishioners of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Church for three days of fun and great food during the church’s 78th annual Lawn Festival. Traditionally held on the first weekend in August, the Lawn Festival brings together parishioners, former parishioners, members of the community, and many out-of-town guests for a weekend of games, prizes, and old-fashioned camaraderie. The biggest part of the festival is set up under brightly colored tents on the parish lawn. Many game booths and a variety of delicious foods and baked goods can be enjoyed throughout the weekend. The primary objective of the parish Lawn Festival is to raise much-needed funds to meet the financial obligations of SSCD School. The success of the Lawn Festival hinges on parents of our school children, parishioners, alumni of the school, members of the community,
