A regional Asian Health Forum established to discuss and act towards improving health outcomes for the

W R A H A

Asians in the greater Wellington region.

Wellington Regional Asian Health Alliance (WRAHA) is a community-driven alliance of the Asian communities living in Wellington. The pan-Asian group was established to raise awareness of health issues facing more than 36,000 Asians residing in the greater Wellington region. The board is made up of representatives who are dedicated and passionate to improve the health of the diverse Asian communities living in the region. We anticipate running targeted-community projects in the future. We welcome people from different Asian communities to engage with us around health issues facing our communities. Some achievements for the group from the past year include: In October 16th 2010, WRAHA undertook an Indian Health a Wellbeing community project to inform the community about the existence of WRAHA, raise awareness about health issues, and conduct a community healt needs survey. In January 2011 WRAHA regtered as a Charitable Trust and is in the process of registering with Chari ties Commission. Inclusion in the New Zealand Diversity Action Programme with Human Rights Commission for 2011. The group has plans to run more projects this coming year and continue to grow and build on last years successes. Health Promotion Events Last year we hosted the a health and wellbeing event for the Chinese Community in the Wellington Region. It involved speakers and experts from various health bodies presenting information about health issues affecting the Chinese population. We are planning to hold a Chinese Expo 2012 in July this year.

Wellington Regional Asian Health Alliance (WRAHA) WRAHA is made up of 8 trustees representing Indian, Chinese, Fijian Indian and Filipino, Nepal communities. There is also support from Compass Primary Health Care Network and the Office of Ethnic Affairs.
