mEMBER-oWNER Announcements

by Yevette Buddeau, Membership Manager (MM) Welcome warmer weather and more birds chirping! Happy April to all, and let’s keep our eyes out for all the wonderful signs of spring rebirth together. We have plenty to talk about this month. Come to the April 24 Membership Meeting via Zoom and vote for the Board of Directors candidates.

Did you know we are one of the few coops I’ve encountered that do fully open elections? We allow eligible candidates to self-nominate, nominate others, run, and serve on the Board based on what they have to offer the Co-op.

In many other co-ops, it’s common for board candidates to be selected and/or vetted by a small group and then presented to the membership to approve at an annual meeting. To each its own, I suppose, but if you value the flexibility and inclusiveness of our open elections then get involved. Run, serve, vote. Be active and engaged—it’s what makes us…US!

Come on in and lend a hand in the store, we have plenty of ways to connect.

•Food Service is looking for food prep help on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings, and dishwashing help on Monday mornings. Contact DanH@honestweight.coop.

•We’re looking for an MO to take on the task of checking weights and tare weights on select products around the store to make sure they are “honest weights.” This could be a monthly MO or someone who comes in weekly but does weights every few weeks. Contact StephenQ@honestweight.coop.

•The Plants Dept. is ready to start the 2022 growing season outside! This is fast-paced and customer-service oriented, with lifting and outside air. Contact CarolSurash@honestweight.coop.

•We seek MOs to help with the Earth Day electronics recycling event on April 23. Setting up, general tent and electronics duties, and breaking down are all needed. Contact memberservices@honestweight.coop. •Interested in helping to do orientations for new Owners? We’re looking for a couple of tech-savvy, friendly Co-op superstars to join our group of orientation facilitators. Contact memberservices@honestweight.coop.

•Meat-minder needed! Come get your hours in the Meat Dept. giving positive customer service and straightening up a bit, no cutting or weighing necessary. Evening hours especially. Contact StephenQ@honestweight.coop.

We’re changing our parking policy at the end of this month. We’re still doing our very best to save the parking spots in the Co-op parking lot for customers, with anyone who is on shift parking off the property during their shift. We’re terminating our parking contract with the Harriet Gibbons school, so we won’t be using the evening and weekend hours in the school lot across the street anymore. For years, we’ve rented parking in the Harriet Gibbons lot during off-hours when there is also ample parking on the surrounding streets, and what we actually could use is additional parking during business hours when the parked traffic is higher. So it’s time to stop paying for extra parking we don’t need, and after April 30 we’ll all be parking on the streets around the Co-op when we come in for shifts. Check the signs to make sure it’s a good time to park—specifically, Watervliet Ave has parking on only one side on Mondays and Tuesdays. Breathe easy and leave yourself a couple of minutes to park and get to your shift. We can’t wait to see you!
