But at the station, there’s an unexpected turn of events. Paige and Paxton end up in the TV weather center, and it’s a good thing because the meteorologists really clear things up. They introduce the siblings to the science of weather and give them a new perspective on rain to boot.

Paige and Paxton stare out the window. Oh, no. It’s raining again.

4

“Will it ever stop?” wonder Paige and Paxton.

It rained Tuesday. It rained Wednesday. It rained Thursday. It rained Friday. Now it’s Saturday, and it’s still raining.

This is the fifth day that Paige and Paxton will not be able to play outside.

5

“Good news,” says Mama Puzzle. “Grandmama Puzzle won a tour of the television station in a raffle, and she would like you to come along.”

6

Yay! Things are starting to get brighter.

Paige and Paxton have done a lot of things in their lives.

After all, Paige is six years old, and Paxton is five. But they have never been to a television station.

7

Paige and Paxton are happy because they’ll get to meet their favorite television stars, the Puzzlemates.

They laugh with the Puzzlemates.

8

They cry with the Puzzlemates.

They go to sleep with the Puzzlemates.

They wake up with the Puzzlemates.

9

Paige and Paxton are so excited that they’re ready to go when their grandparents arrive.

10

Well, there’s one good thing about rain. Puddles!

11

Grandpapa Puzzle buckles their car seats, and they’re off.

12

The television station is in Puzzlepolitan, Puzzleland’s largest city.

13

In Puzzleland, all the puzzle pieces are different but each has a perfect fit. A perfect fit is something that you love to do.

14

That’s what makes Puzzleland perfect…even in the rain.

15

When they arrive at the television station, the entire Puzzle clan is amazed. “Wow! This is really cool, say Paige and Paxton.

16

They forget about the rain and jump out of the car.

Their grandparents follow behind.

17

“Welcome to Puzzleland Television,” says the tour guide. “It’s a pleasure to have you as guests.”

18

“Thank you,” say Paige and Paxton. “Can we see the Puzzlemates first?”

“Absolutely! That’s one of the favorite things for kids to do here at P-TV,” says the guide.

19

On the way to see the Puzzlemates, Paige and Paxton stop suddenly. “What’s this?” ask Paige and Paxton.

20

“It’s our meteorology center,” answers the guide. “What’s meteorology?” ask Paige and Paxton.

21

Meteorology is science. Science is the way we find out how things work and why things are the way they are. . . in this world and beyond.

22

Meteorology is the way we find out how weather works and why weather is the way it is.

23

Meteorologists love to study how weather works and what makes weather work.

24

Meteorologists study the sun, air and water. These three things create all the weather in our world.

Rain

Air

Heat

Sun Snow Water Wind

25

Paige and Paxton cannot believe it. Things are getting brighter! “Can we stop here?” ask Paige and Paxton. “We have a question.”

26

The guide opens the door and introduces the Puzzle family to the meteorologists. Hum

“It’s very nice to meet you,” say the meteorologists. “We would love to show you around the center.”

27

Paige and Paxton are impressed by all the technology, but they only want to know one thing: Can they make it stop raining?

28

“I’m afraid not,” says one of the meteorologists. “But we do have an idea of when it will stop raining. It’s called forecasting the weather. A forecast is our best guess.”

Paige and Paxton are puzzled. They’re puzzle pieces, but they don’t like being “puzzled.”

When Paige and Paxton are puzzled, they ask questions. “Forecasting? How is that helpful?” asks Paige.

29

Weather forecasting is very helpful because weather affects each and every one of us.

30

WINDY DAY F

Weather forecasts help us to plan our day.

Weather forecasts also help keep us safe.

31

Okay. Now this is starting to get interesting. “So how do we find out what our weather will be like? asks Paige.

32

Weather is what’s happening in the air above us right now. Right now it’s raining.

33

Weather forecasting involves collecting information about the air from weather stations all around the world.

34

The information is sent to weather centers where it’s available to meteorologists who use it to make their own weather forecasts.

35

“That’s how we prepare forecasts for Puzzleland. Look. You can see that the rain is moving out of our area,” says one of the meteorologists.

36

“But there’s something you should know,” says the other meteorologist.

“We often think of rain as something bad. But there are good things about rain.”

37

“Like puddles!” answer Paige and Paxton.

38

“Yes. Definitely puddles,” agrees the meteorologist. “But rain is also nature’s way of getting living things the water they need to survive.”

“Plants need water. Animals need water. And we need water!”

39

Paige and Paxton spent the rest of the time with the meteorologists, learning about weather.

40

They wanted to see their favorite television stars, but they found some new stars: meteorologists.

41

On the way home, Paige and Paxton don’t seem to mind the rain anymore.

42

After all it does a lot of good.

43

When they arrive home, Mama and Papa Puzzle are eager to hear all about Paige and Paxton’s day with the Puzzlemates.

44

At first, Paige and Paxton are perplexed. “Puzzlemates? Oh, the Puzzlemates are for babies,” says Paxton.

“We hung out in the weather center with the meteorologists,” says Paige.

Paige and Paxton fill in their parents on the day’s events, and the rain stops, just as the meteorologists forecasted.

It’s a fitting end to a rainy week.
