Hakka Chinese One of the major groups of varieties of Chinese, spoken natively by the Hakka

people throughout southern China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and throughout the diaspora areas of East

Asia, Southeast Asia, and in overseas Chinese communities around the world.


Cantonese Cantonese is a variety of Chinese originating from the city of Guangzhou

(also known as Canton) and its surrounding area in South-eastern China. It is the traditional prestige

variety of the Yue Chinese dialect group, which has about 68 million native speakers.

Chengyu are a type of traditional

Chinese idiomatic expression, most of which consist of four characters. Chengyu were widely used in Classical

Chinese and are still common in vernacular Chinese writing and in the spoken language today.


Lion dance

Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian

countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck

and fortune.


Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance

It takes about 300 performers

and over 24,000 incense sticks per night to put on a three-day performance with a 67-metre

dragon, which consists of 32 sections and whose head alone weighs 70 kg.


Cantonese Opera Cantonese opera (Chinese: 精劇) is one

of the major categories in Chinese opera, originating in southern China's Guangdong Province. It is popular in

Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macau and among Chinese communities in Southeast Asia. Like all

versions of Chinese opera, it is a traditional Chinese art form, involving music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics,

and acting.


Puppetry Performs in four main Chinese traditional puppet types: string, hand, rod and shadow puppets,

and collected nearly a thousand puppets. Dedicated to the preservation and

development of puppetry arts, training of local artists, creating puppet performances with Hong

Kong characteristics.


Fujian Nanyin

Nanguan is a style of Chinese classical music originating in the

southern Chinese province of Fujian, and is also now highly popular in Taiwan, particularly

Lukang on west coast, as well as among Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia.


Hakka Hill Song

Hakka hill songs are rural songs

sung in the Hakka language by the Hakka people. They are probably one of the better known elements that reflect Hakka culture, regarded by

many as the 'pearl of Hakka Literature'.


Che Kung

Che Kung was originally a military

commander of Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), who, according to lore, had supreme power to suppress rebellion and was renowned for his loyalty to the Emperor. He was also famous for his

power to suppress plagues and his skill in medicine. He is now considered a god of protection.


Tin Kung Yuk Wong Tai Tai

Yuk Wong Tai Tai or the Jade Emperor

is in-charge of the Heaven. He is the king of all immortals and has the power to order them.


Sam Shan Kwok Wong Festival

“Sam Shan” refers to 3 famous mountains of Chaozhou in Guangdong , namely Du Shan ,

Ming Shan and Jin Shan.


Kam Fa Festival

Each year on April 17th of the Lunar Year when Kam Fa Festival is celebrated, Master Kwan’s son Mr.

Kwan Hon Chuen, along with Master Luk Chong Mao (Master Luk Chi Fu’s son) and Master Cheung Kwok Wah

(Master Kwan Tak Hing’s disciple) and friends, would bring more than 10 dancing lions to Peng Chau.


Dragon Boat Festival The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday originating in China, occurring near the summer solstice. The festival now occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month

of the traditional Chinese calendar, which is the source of the festival's alternative name,

the Double Fifth Festival.


Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a branch of traditional medicine based on more than 2,500 years of Chinese medical practice that

includes various forms of herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage (tui na), exercise (qigong), and dietary

therapy, but recently also influenced by modern Western medicine.


Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees

Lam Tsuen, in Tai Po, was already a residential area 700 years ago

during the Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279). Today, it still bustles with people and visitors thanks to

its two ‘wishing trees’ and Tin Hau Temple.


Tai Chi Taiji(tai chi), short for Tai ji quan, or T'ai chi ch'Ăźan, is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training, its health benefits and meditation. The term taiji refers to a philosophy of the forces of yin and yang, related to the moves.


Feng Shui

Literally meaning ’wind

and water’, feng shui is the ancient Chinese practice of positioning objects and

buildings in harmony with nature to bring about good fortune.
