Harvest volumes, yields, and alpha acid contents
The 2020 hop harvest in Germany amounted to 46,878,500 kg (= 937,570 German hundredweight), which was just below the previous year's record-breaking harvest of 48,472,220 kg (= 969,444 German hundredweight). Except for 2019, this was the second largest hop harvest in Germany. Considering that the total hop area had declined again, this yield amounted to an excellent average, which was not necessarily expected earlier in the year, when a drought in May and cool temperatures in May and June caused a lag in plant development of up to 14 days in the summer. With an average yield of 2,264 kg/ha for the total area, the hectare yield this year is 110 kg/ha below that of the previous year.
