W

hat are colon polyps? Colon polyps are protuberances that appear on the mucous that lines the interior of the colon. Normally they measure a few millimeters and can vary in shape. Polyps are the result of cellular changes which have the potential to develop maliciously into cancerous lesions. Eliminating them early is a step toward avoiding colorectal cancer.

What are the symptoms? Generally, there are no symptoms associated with polyps when they are small in size.

Larger polyps can suffer hemorrhage which can lead to blood in feces or anemia.

How are polyps diagnosed? Currently, the best method for the detection of polyps is the colonoscopy, a study which allows the direct visualization of the colon to identify polyps. Removal of the polyps can take place during the same procedure.

Other examinations may find polyps but are faced with the challenge of detecting the smaller and flat type of polyps that may be malicious nonetheless.

Who must undergo a colonoscopy? All patients with the following criteria: -Older than 45 who have never undergone a colonoscopy -A family history of polyps or colorectal cancer -Anyone who has been diagnosed with polyps but has not had a colonoscopy in the last five years How are polyps treated? The vast majority of polyps can be removed during the colonoscopy. This is known as endoscopic polypectomy. Most of the times this can be accomplished at an outpatient clinic. All polyps must be analyzed under a microscope after their removal in order to characterize their malignancy. Patients who are diagnosed with polyps must undergo control colonoscopies periodically.

Pólipos del colon

¿

Qué son los pólipos del colon? Los pólipos de colon son unas prominencias que aparecen en la mucosa que recubre el interior del colon. Normalmente miden pocos milímetros y pueden ser más o menos prominentes, incluso planos o tener un tallo que los une a la mucosa (en forma de hongo), estos últimos se llaman pólipos pediculados. En ocasiones pueden llegar a ser muy numerosos (en estos casos constituyen un grupo de enfermedades llamadas poliposis). La importancia de los pólipos consiste en que en su composición puede haber células con cambios precancerosos. Son los llamados pólipos adenomatosos.

Estos pólipos pueden degenerar y desarrollar un cáncer de colon. Su extirpación cuando aún miden pocos milímetros evita que dé lugar a la aparición de cáncer y por tanto estaríamos previniendo su progresión. Por esta razón debemos considerar a los pólipos como lesiones precancerosas. ¿Cuáles son los síntomas? Habitualmente y debido a su pequeño tamaño suelen ser totalmente asintomáticos. Cuando son algo más grandes pueden sufrir erosiones en su superficie que da lugar a la aparición de sangre en las evacuaciones o una anemia por pérdidas de sangre muy pequeñas que no se ven pero que podrían detectarse con un examen en las heces. ¿Cómo se diagnostican los pólipos? En la actualidad el mejor método para detectarlos es la COLONOSCOPIA, pues permite visualizar directamente los pólipos pudiendo detectarse pólipos de muy pequeño tamaño. La colonoscopia nos permite no sólo el diagnóstico sino que también se puede realizar su extirpación en el mismo procedimiento. Es muy importante hacer correctamente la preparación adecuada para la limpieza del colon antes de realizar la colonoscopia, pues de ello dependerá el poder ver y detectar adecuadamente los pólipos.

Aunque hay otros estudios que permiten detectar pólipos, existe el inconveniente que pueden pasar desapercibidos los más pequeños y los planos y que finalmente se requiere la realización de una colonoscopia si se detecta algún pólipo con el fin de resecarlo. ¿En quienes debe realizarse una Colonoscopia? Todo paciente con los siguientes antecedentes: - Edad mayor de 45 años de edad y que nunca se ha realizado una colonoscopia.

- Si ha tenido un familiar directo como padres, hermanos o hijos con pólipos o cáncer de colon.

- A quienes se les detectó un pólipo del colon hace más de cinco años y no se ha vuelto a realizar una colonoscopia. ¿Cómo se tratan los pólipos? La mayoría de ellos pueden ser extirpados directamente en el momento de la colonoscopia, lo que se conoce como POLIPECTOMIA ENDOSCOPICA. La mayoría de las veces se puede realizar de manera ambulatoria, esto es, sin necesidad de internamiento hospitalario y bajo una sedación, sin necesidad de anestesia. Solo en algunas ocasiones y dependiendo de las condiciones del paciente y del tamaño de los pólipos, se requerirá realizar la polipectomía en un medio hospitalario.

Todos los pólipos extirpados deben enviarse para su análisis en el microscopio para saber las características del pólipo, si tienen algún grado de malignidad y la extensión de la misma. De esto dependerá la indicación para realizar un nuevo estudio de colonoscopia para vigilar la reaparición de más pólipos.

Giant papillary conjunctivitis

G

iant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC) is when the inside of the eyelid becomes red, swollen and irritated.

People who wear contact lenses are more likely to get it. GPC can appear at any time, even after contact lenses have been used for many years.

People who do not wear contact lenses can also get GPC. However, it is very rare and usually affects those with an artificial eye or stitches.

What causes the GPC? The CPG can be caused by the following: • Allergy to contact lenses or the chemicals used to clean them. People with contact lenses who have asthma, allergic rhinitis or other allergies are more likely to get it.

• A contact lens, an artificial eye or exposed sutures that rub with the eyelid.

• Deposits of proteins or other substances in contact lenses.

• Chronic eye allergies.

What are the symptoms of GPC? • Feeling that you have something in your eye.

• Red eyes, pain and itching.

• Swollen or drooping eyelids.

• Secession in the eye, which makes blurred vision.

• Feeling that the contact lens moves in the eyeball when it blinks.

How is the GPC treated?

You must treat the GPC immediately. Otherwise, it can cause serious damage to the eyelid and cornea. Some of the treatment options are: • Avoid wearing contact lenses for a few days to a few weeks: This gives the inside of the eye time to recover.

• Limit contact lens usage time per day.

• Use medications in eye drops or ointments prescribed by an ophthalmologist to decrease swelling and itching.

Conjuntivitis papilar gigante

a conjuntivitis papilar gigante (CPG) es cuando el interior del párpado se pone rojo, se hincha y se irrita.

Las personas que usan lentes de contacto tienen mayores probabilidad de contraerla. La CPG puede aparecer en cualquier momento, incluso después de haber usado lentes de contacto por muchos años.

Las personas que no usan lentes de contacto también pueden contraer CPG. Sin embargo, es muy raro y suele afectar a aquellos con un ojo artificial o puntos de sutura ¿Qué causa la CPG? La CPG puede ser causada por lo siguiente: • Alergia a los lentes de contacto o a los químicos utilizados para limpiarlos. Las personas con lentes de contacto que tienen asma, rinitis alérgica u otras alergias tienen más probabilidades de contraerla.

• Un lente de contacto, un ojo artificial o suturas expuestas que se froten con el párpado.

Alergias crónicas de los ojos. ¿Cuáles son los síntomas de la CPG? • Sensación de que tiene algo en el ojo.

• Ojos enrojecidos, dolor y comezón.

• Sensación de que el lente de contacto se desplaza en el globo ocular cuando parpadea. ¿Cómo se trata la CPG? Debe tratar la CPG de inmediato. Por Beatriz Flores ¿Su hijo se incorpora por las noches llorando, gritando, con la respiración agitada sin poder ser consolado? lo que usted cree es una pesadilla podría ser un terror nocturno, algo que si bien forma parte del desarrollo normal de los niños ocasiona gran inquietud entre los padres.

Según la psicóloga Lorena Muñoz Gómez, es la interrupción del sueño por medio de la aparición de sueños no gratos que aparece mayormente en los niños.

NO SON IGUALES A LAS PESADILLAS

“Quien lo presenta lo tiene como algo muy vívido, como una vivencia, y una característica es que el niño tiene movimientos, muestra inquietud, puede hacer sonidos guturales y cuando el sueño es interrumpido se tiene la capacidad de contar con exactitud, detalles y sensaciones

Comentó que al principio se pueden tener problemas para narrarlo, pero luego de unos minutos es capaz de hacerlo, con una sensación similar a la de haber estado en el lugar o suceso que soñó.

Dijo que no es tan común que los padres lo identifiquen como un terror nocturno y mucho menos que vayan a consulta porque la mayoría de las veces se subestima, pueden pensar que se trata de simples pesadillas, pero no es lo mismo.

“Un sueño regular dura pocos segundos y al despertar la persona puede no acordarse de qué estaba soñando, pero un terror nocturno puede oscilar entre los dos

y 40 minutos y aunque al principio no pueda hacerlo por la impresión de sentir que realmente lo vivió, puede contar lo soñado a la perfección”, afirmó.

Agregó que los terrores pueden llegar a desgastar mucho a las personas que los tienen.

Muñoz Gómez manifestó que se presentan entre los tres y los siete años de edad y coinciden con lo que unos autores llaman la “Etapa de la fantasía”, y se refiere a que los niños no distinguen entre la realidad y la ficción.

“Puedes ver a un niño creyéndose Spiderman o su personaje favorito, pero también se pueden hacer presentes en la vida adulta”, precisó.

¿CÓMO IDENTIFICARLOS?

La psicóloga destacó que son cuatro aspectos los que deben tomarse en cuenta para ver si efectivamente es un terror nocturno el que se está presentando.

El primer punto, aseveró, es la vivencia de imágenes, que se refiere a que el niño puede describir detalles que vio en su sueño de forma exacta, por ejemplo, qué vio, cuáles eran sus colores, formas, entre otras cosas.

Durante los terrores nocturnos las sensaciones que experimente el niño son muy importantes, pueden llegar a sentir frío, calor, dolor, hasta la temperatura ambiental.

“La excitabilidad también es un indicador importante, si ven que un niño es muy inquieto para dormir, se mueve mucho durante la noche o luce intranquilo puede deberse a lo que está soñando, no se trata de que sea solamente su forma de dormir”, enfatizó.

Las verbalizaciones completan las características, esto se refiere a cuando el niño habla solo, hace algún soplido o grita.

“Todos manejamos el miedo de diferente manera, sí tenemos que poner mucha atención y si se reúnen tres de estos síntomas sería conveniente asesorarnos y acudir con un especialista para manejarlo”, sentenció.

LO QUE DEBE HACER

Cuando el niño se incorpora tras haber experimentado un terror nocturno, los padres de familia pueden desconcertarse un poco al no saber como manejar la situación o cómo tratarlo.

Sobre todo, porque puede haber ocasiones en que el niño no despierte por completo y tarde un poco en comprender que está en su recámara, junto a sus padres.

“Hay que hablarle con un tono de voz suave y pausado, cuando estamos dormidos nuestro consciente también lo está, pero nuestro inconsciente no y todo el tiempo está recopilando información de lo vivido durante el día y si está teniendo un terror nocturno durante alguna etapa del sueño muy profunda, levantarlo de forma

abrupta no es apropiado y podría ser traumático”, aclaró.

La especialista enfatizó que a pesar de que no hay mucha información al respecto, se considera que si se presentan más de dos veces por semana hay que poner atención.

“Puede presentarse por algo que le sucedió al niño durante el día a día, por ejemplo, que hayan atropellado a un perrito, un regaño en la escuela y puede ser considerado normal, pero si los tiene más de dos veces por semana puede obedecer a una neurosis de angustia”, declaró.

Puede deberse, refirió, a un acontecimiento o una situación traumática que no se restauró en el niño o no fue atendida.

“Muchas de las veces subestimamos la infancia pensando que están chiquitos y no se dan cuenta de lo que pasa, que nada les preocupa, pero déjenme decirles que es precisamente en la infancia, en los primeros ocho años cuando se fijan los traumas que el ser humano saca a relucir en la adolescencia o en la vida adulta”, reveló.

Cuando se tiene en claro que el niño presenta un problema hay que acercarse a él y ver si algo está pasando en su entorno.

“A veces el niño es reprimido o no tiene confianza con los papás, o no nos damos el tiempo para hablar con él y pre-

guntarle si desea que se platique lo que le pasa con alguien más, así el niño se va a sentir acompañado”, indicó.

Reveló que lo primero que debe de hacerse es visitar al pediatra para descartar la presencia de cualquier padecimiento y una vez confirmado acudir con un terapeuta.

Este especialista podrá realizar entrevistas a los papás y un test proyectivo de personalidad al niño, en donde por medio de dibujos y otras actividades mostrará qué es lo que está viviendo.

La psicóloga subrayó que el trabajo con técnicas de relajación es muy importante y de mucha ayuda, ya que así aprenden a relajarse.

Agregó que también debe fomentarse la confianza del niño en sus padres y cuidadores, además de darse una educación en la rutina del sueño.

“A veces los niños son enviados a dormir a punta de regaños y maltratos, o cuando los papás están viendo películas de terror o contenido para adultos y hay que cuidar que todo eso no suceda”, detalló.

By José Manuel Meza Those who begin to enter the healthy environment are very interested in the things they can eat to improve their performance, look better and talk a lot about protein consumption to achieve those goals.

These are macro-molecules formed by linear chains of amino acids.

According to Ana Laura Noriega Cortés, a nutritionist from the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) and a Cross-Fit trainer, proteins can be found naturally in some foods and also artificially.

“This is the case of meats, eggs, dairy products, yogurt, vegetables such as legumes, lentils, beans and talking about protein powder, it is a supplement that can substitute the food itself.

They can be found in cereals, in fruits, in vegetables, in glucose. Everything that is sugar.

“And the micro-nutrients are vitamins and minerals. They are found in carbohydrates, such as fruits, in proteins, as in meat. They also provide vitamins and minerals”, she explained.

A GOOD COMBINATION

The nutritionist and trainer said that it is important to accompany the exercise with a healthy diet, that is why protein intake is necessary during training, because if the necessary amount is not consumed, instead of

benefiting it may affect. ¿What happens when you do not have enough protein?

“It could be that the person suffers from weakness, and a lack of will. There can be a decompensation because it is an essential nutrient and everyone should consume protein, either animal, vegetable or also from some legumes or plants and powder”, she said.

Noriega Cortés also considered relevant to say that there are many myths about these macro-molecules.

“There are people who believe that they are going to take them and magically they are going to grow their muscles and there are those who believe that they will hurt their kidneys,

“Protein powder is simply a supplement.

There are people who consider it mandatory to take them because they are exercising. Many times they are expensive and not everyone has the resources to buy them, but it is not 100 percent necessary to have them in powder form and they can be consumed from the same foods”, she explained.

Anyway, the coach recommended that whether someone seeks to gain weight, gain muscle mass or decrease the percentage of fat, you should go with a nutritionist or specialist who can give advice and a personalized plan.

PROTEÍNAS Cuándo y cómo consumirlas

Son parte de la moda del ‘fitness’, que tiene que ver con un estilo de vida sano consistente en alimentación balanceada y ejercicio.

Por José Manuel Meza Quienes comienzan a introducirse en el ambiente de lo saludable se interesan mucho en las cosas que pueden comer para mejorar su rendimiento, verse mejor y mucho se habla sobre el consumo de proteínas para alcanzar esos objetivos.

Se trata de macromoléculas formadas por cadenas lineales de aminoácidos.

De acuerdo con Ana Laura Noriega Cortés, licenciada en nutrición por la Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) y entrenadora de ‘crossfit’, las proteínas pueden encontrarse de manera natural en algunos alimentos y también de modo artificial.

“Es el caso de las carnes, el huevo, los lácteos, el yoghurt, los vegetales como las leguminosas, las lentejas, los frijoles, las alubias y hablando de la proteína en polvo, es un suplemento que suple la comida en sí.

“Muchas veces no tenemos tiempo de estar comiendo cada tres horas pollo, pescado, carne, entonces es mucho más práctico tomarla en polvo”, comentó.

La entrevistada dijo que en el ámbito ‘fitness’ se recomienda ingerir proteínas después del entrenamiento, ya que es cuando el organismo necesita los nutrientes para poder reconstruir las fibras musculares que fueron desgastadas durante la actividad física.

“Son importantes porque tienen muchísimas funciones. Una de ellas es precisamente la reconstrucción de los tejidos y la

reparación de músculos, por eso su ingesta es muy necesaria”, agregó la especialista.

PERO NO CONSUMIRLAS DE MÁS

Noriega Cortés expresó que existe una recomendación de proteínas específica para cada persona, pero puede variar dependiendo la edad, la condición de salud, si es hombre, mujer, si está embarazada, si es atleta.

Los objetivos cambian, pero normalmente se recomienda que sean del 10 al 15 por ciento de la dieta.

“La ingesta diaria se divide en tres: carbohidratos, proteínas y lípidos. Los primeros se aconsejan del 50 al 55 por ciento, lí-

pidos del 20 al 30 y las proteínas del 10 al 15 por ciento.

“Los carbohidratos son otro macronutriente y la principal fuente de energía de nuestro cuerpo. Se pueden encontrar en los cereales, en las frutas, en las verduras, en la glucosa. Todo lo que sea azúcar.

“Y Los micronutrientes vienen siendo las vitaminas y minerales. Se encuentran en los carbohidratos, como las frutas, en las proteínas, como en la carne. También aportan vitaminas y minerales”, detalló.

UNA BUENA COMBINACIÓN

La nutrióloga y entrenadora afirmó que es importante acompañar al ejercicio con una

buena alimentación, por eso es necesaria la ingesta de proteína durante el entrenamiento, ya que si no se consume la cantidad necesaria, en vez de beneficiar puede afectar.

–¿Qué pasa cuando no se tiene suficiente proteína?

“Podría ser que la persona sufra de debilidad, tenga falta de ánimo. Puede llegar a haber una descompensación, porque es un nutrimento esencial y todos deben consumir proteína, ya sea de origen animal, vegetal o también de algunas leguminosas o plantas y en polvo”, recalcó.

Noriega Cortés, consideró además relevante decir que existen muchos mitos sobre estas macromoléculas.

“Hay personas que creen que se las van a tomar y mágicamente les va a hacer crecer sus músculos y hay quienes creen que les va a hacer daño en sus riñones, pero no, si se consumen de acuerdo a los requerimientos no va a provocar ningún mal efecto.

“La proteína en polvo simplemente es un complemento. Hay personas que consideran obligatorio tomarlas porque están haciendo ejercicio. Muchas veces son caras y no todos tienen los recursos para poder comprarlas, pero no es 100 por ciento necesario tenerlas en polvo y pueden consumirse de los mismos alimentos”, ejemplificó.

De todos modos la entrenadora recomendó que ya sea que alguien busque subir de peso, ganar masa muscular o disminuir el porcentaje de grasa hay que acudir con un nutriólogo o especialista que pueda dar un asesoramiento con un plan personalizado.

“La células madre son células pluripotenciales que tienen la función de convertirse y realizar la función de cualquier otra célula. Todos las tenemos en nuestro cuerpo, pero por medio de la autohemoterapia se activan”, detalló.

Garza García expresó que su obtención se da por tres vías: la sangre, que es la más común; la medula ósea, que es el hueso y tejido adiposo y la grasa abdominal que

“Luego de los tratamientos de autohemoterapia, la glucosa va a empezar a bajar, tanto así que a veces se les quita el medicamento que están tomando, porque a fin de cuentas ya no lo requieren; el paciente baja de peso y les va bastante bien”, precisó.

Añadió que tiene pacientes que saben o no, que son hipertensos y al terminar el tratamiento dejan el medicamento en caso de consumir algún fármaco.

En las mujeres es común el tratamiento para contrarrestar el descontrol hormonal, también trata a pacientes con Parkinson, Alzheimer, artritis, lupus, la mayoría de tipo reumatoideo. Todos ellos por medio de la autohemoterapia.

Garza García resaltó que la terapia con células madre actualmente es muy accesible

en cuanto a costo en Reynosa. Sin comparar con otros centros que realizan este tipo de tratamientos en ciudades como Chicago, Miami, Houston o Chihuahua.

“Yo nunca les prometo nada, porque son enfermedades crónico degenerativas que ya vienen diagnosticadas de otros especialistas y el paciente viene resignado de que no se puede curar y yo no les puedo ofrecer una cura, sin embargo, sí hay mejoras considerables y hemos revertido diagnósticos de por vida”, precisó.

Añadió que lo complicado de estos procedimientos es obtener la confianza de otras especialidades sobre los beneficios de la autohemoterapia, pero hay algunos médicos que hasta la utilizan en el Centro Médico Génesis.

“Las células madre salieron a la luz hace muchos años, simplemente no estaban tan especializados en cómo activarlas, las ponían, pero no las dirigían al cien por

ciento por ello la falta de funcionamiento especifico”, explicó.

Dijo también que el avance de la tecnología ha permitido que hasta en la publicidad de cremas aparezcan como contenido las células madre, ya sea para el rostro o el cuerpo.

“Están donde sea, es decir, ya se sabe que sí funcionan y no es algo paliativo, es real, no es una terapia alternativa, es medicamente confiable y comprobado”, afirmó.

VENTAJAS Y BENEFICIOS

El médico comentó que cualquier persona puede utilizar dicho procedimiento sin padecer ninguna enfermedad, pues no es de uso exclusivo de los enfermos, sino para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas.

“No sabemos cuánto tiempo de vida nos queda, pero lo que me resta lo quiero vivir al cien por ciento. Suponiendo que alguien sano lo use, su cuerpo eliminará

las toxinas de mejor manera, los órganos comienzan a funcionar al cien por ciento;. Habrá un punto en el que los pacientes se sientan muy bien e incluso hasta la función mental mejora”.

Comentó que en la actualidad los alimentos procesados y la vida sedentaria hacen que a los seres humanos no les funcione de manera correcta las células madre, mismas que también sirven para mejorar la piel, la forma de caminar y hasta dejar de usar bastón.

“En otras partes del mundo se les conoce como terapias antienvejecimiento, no porque te quite las arrugas, (cosa que sí hace) y tampoco frena la vejez, pero si la hace más lenta y le pone pausa”, advirtió.

Explicó que en el pasado se creía que el uso de las células madre no eran para todo el mundo, pero en la actualidad cualquier persona es candidata para su utilización, la única que no es recomendable es quien tiene las plaquetas muy bajas.

Dijo que sería un problema extraer la sangre, y más devolverla al torrente sanguíneo. Fuera de eso, lo recomendó para cualquier persona e incluso niños, sin importar que no se tenga ningún padecimiento.

“La madre naturaleza es muy sabia y por alguna razón nos puso en nuestro cuerpo este tipo de células como si fuese una farmacia que nosotros tenemos y tenemos acceso a ellas y es personal, pensar que a veces no se puede comprar un medicamento porque es muy caro, pero esto te puede regenerar, mejorar y hasta quitarte el padecimiento o el sufrimiento que te causa la enfermedad. Es una terapia muy buena en la que no todos creen que puede funcionar, pero eso es todo, falta de confianza, se debe experimentar en carne propia para conocer su efecto benigno”, dijo.

Dijo que la finalidad de campañas como esta es recuperar áreas verdes públi-

cas para restructurar el tejido social y motivar a los ciudadanos a trabajar en el cuidado del medio ambiente.

“En esta administración hemos sembrado más de 9 mil árboles y por supuesto vamos a seguir impulsando todos estos proyectos, donde hemos apoyado con más de 2,500 árboles para que se siembren en toda la ciudad y vamos a seguir haciéndolo de una forma masiva”, destacó la edil.

pa de Reynosa para que mediante el uso de pipas se abasteciera de agua potable al Circuito Juárez del fraccionamiento Hacienda Las Bugambilias, sin ningún costo y sin límite de horario.

Para hacer frente al desabasto que viven algunos sectores de la ciudad, la presidenta municipal Maki Ortiz Domínguez ha coordinado acciones con el objetivo de dotar del vital líquido y que no haga falta a las familias, por lo que también pone a disposición de los usuarios los número telefónicos del organismo, 9092200 y 073.

A través del número telefónico la ciudadanía puede solicitar el servicio de agua en pipas de forma personalizada.

El abasto de agua potable por medio de camiones cisterna es una medida emergente, sin embargo, el gobierno municipal sigue atendiendo la problemática derivada de la falta de mantenimiento que por décadas padeció el organismo paramunicipal que administra el agua potable y el drenaje sanitario.

Dijo que la gente que más busca este tipo de productos son los turistas de Estados Unidos y Canadá.

“Aquí en el Shaddai Shopping Center también vendemos talavera de Dolores, Hidalgo, pero la de Puebla es la más solicitada.

“Son artículos que llevan mucho tiempo de elaboración y por lo mismo son bien apreciados por los visitantes”, comentó.

Solís Salinas expresó que para este centro comercial es una satisfacción poder acercar al público una talavera con calidad de exportación a unos pasos de cruzar la frontera.

“Podemos decir que son productos exclusivos en Nuevo Progreso, porque nadie los vende aquí más que nosotros”, destacó.

Y resaltó la ventaja que los turistas pueden conseguirla en la frontera casi por el mismo valor que en su lugar de origen.

“Hay mucha gente que cada año nos visita con el único propósito de comprarnos estas artesanías, que en otros países valen más del doble”, aseguró.

La talavera mexicana es un producto libre de sustancias tóxicas que no tiene ningún problema para ser introducido a la Unión Americana, subrayó el representante del Shaddai Shopping Center.

Para muchas personas es casi un ritual tomar una taza de café todas las mañanas, poco después de despertar o al llegar a la oficina y cuando no se hace, aparecen dolores de cabeza, cansancio y somnolencia.

Esto se debe a la cafeína, un estimulante del sistema nervioso central que produce un estado de alerta.

La nutrióloga Brenda Martell explicó que la cafeína no está presente solamente en el café, sino también en chocolates, tés, refrescos y algunas bebidas energéticas.

Ad e m á s , e x i s te la cafeína sintética que se utiliza actualmente en algunos medicamentos.

En estos casos, indicó la especialista, el médico deberá preguntar al paciente sobre el consumo de bebidas que contengan cafeína, pues al administrar algún medicamento que la lleve como parte de sus compuestos puede provocarse una sobredosis.

Martell recomendó tomar una taza de café al día, descafeinado y preferentemente negro, pues el añadir leche, azúcar o sustitutos aporta calorías adicionales que no son necesarias para el organismo.

“No debemos de tomar más de 150 miligramos por día, la dosis de más nos puede ocasionar presión alta, hipersensibilidad, taquicardias, sudoración o insomnio”, aseguró.

Cantidades muy grandes pueden provocar también excitación, problemas gastrointestinales, arritmia cardíaca y aumento en la secreción de orina.

Aseveró que hay personas que han convertido al café en parte de su vida diaria, pero no lo hacen con moderación.

“El café ayuda a mantenernos despiertos, a la concentración, pero el cerebro está tan acostumbrado a ello que cuando dejamos de tomarlo puede provocar el efecto contrario”, advirtió.

Las personas hipertensas, pacientes con cáncer, mujeres embarazadas y que se encuentren en lactancia, deberán evitar la ingesta de cafeína.

“Las mujeres embarazadas no deben consumir café o tés porque la cafeína penetra a la placenta y puede retardar el crecimiento del bebé, también durante la lactancia hay que quitarla porque la cafeína llega a la leche materna y el niño puede tener

“El café en dosis moderadas diarias ayuda a limpiar el hígado y el tracto intestinal, pero no significa que una bebida con café y otras sustancias vaya a lograr que se baje de peso, hay que tener cuidado con la mercadotecnia”, advirtió.

Por José Manuel Meza Nuevo Progreso, Tam. Para nadie es un secreto que la tortilla de maíz es el alimento principal de los mexicanos. Surgió hace ya varios cientos de años y aunque en muchas casas aún se preparan “a mano” su industrialización no le ha restado sabor El origen de la tortilla se remonta al periodo precolombino, formando parte de la cultura gastronómica mexicana.

Desde el punto de vista alimenticio aporta los nutrimentos ideales para una dieta balanceada.

En México se producen en promedio más de ocho millones de toneladas de maíz cada año.

Mucho antes que este alimento se popularizara, a principios de los años 50, uno de los primeros sitios que comenzó a venderlas para los extranjeros que venían a México fue La Potosina.

Situado en la calle Benito Juárez, el negocio es uno de los pioneros de este pueblo en la frontera mexicana.

“Mi abuelito Luis Hernández fue el primero que llegó a este lugar cuando todo aquí era puro monte. Él y su hermano Juan fueron los que empezaron a abrir esto antes que llegara el turismo a Nuevo Progreso”, relató Mayra Lira Hernández, la encargada.

Dijo que previo a los restaurantes, las tiendas, las farmacias y los consultorios médicos ya había tortillas.

“Luego siguió la licorería de aquí al lado, posteriormente los dentistas y poco a poco se fueron abriendo otros negocios”, agregó la administradora.

Es por ello que esta herencia que le dejó su abuelito y posteriormente su madre, significa mucho para ella.

“Porque es una tradición que ha ido de generación en generación. Podrán desaparecer muchas cosas, pero las tortillas jamás”, aseguró.

DE PROPORCIONES INCALCULABLES

Han sido millones de tortillas las que han sali-

do de esta pequeña fábrica y es uno de los productos más solicitados por los ‘winter texans’.

“Tenemos un vaivén de gente que entra y sale. Aquí en el local vendemos otros productos, pero los americanos prefieren las tortillas, porque las usan para los chips, los totopos o las acompañan con sus comidas.

“Por eso digo que puede presentarse cualquier escenario posible, pero la tortilla es un alimento que nunca se puede dejar de vender ni de comer, porque es un producto básico, sabroso y nutritivo”, señaló.

Lira Hernández afirmó sentirse orgullosa de que sus tortillas han llegado tan lejos, que personas de Estados Unidos, de Canadá y hasta de Europa le han dicho que las han consumido.

“Somos conocidos por turistas de muchas partes del mundo”, mencionó.

Es tanta la demanda en La Potosina que las llevan los turistas, los habitantes de Nuevo Progreso y también el sector gastronómico.

“Mi abuelito, quien era originario de San Luis Potosí, México, comenzó con una má-

quina viejita, no sé ni cómo la hacía funcionar, pero logró sacar adelante este negocio.

“Con los años se instalaron tres máquinas más en la parte de arriba. Es difícil determinar cuántos kilos se hacen por día aquí, porque todo el tiempo tenemos las máquinas prendidas, día y noche, no paramos”, manifestó la encargada, quien relata que la gente le dice que el aroma de este alimento se distingue desde lejos.

“Desde que vienen allá en la esquina les da el olor (risas), los ‘winter texans’ se acercan y también les llama la atención el característico rechinido de una máquina y cómo es que van saliendo las tortillas calientitas”, comentó Lira Hernández.

En La Potosina un paquete que pesa más de un kilogramo cuesta un dólar o 16 pesos en moneda mexicana, por lo que es muy accesible para el bolsillo de cualquier persona.

Por su contribución al desarrollo de Nuevo Progreso esta tortillería sigue siendo uno de los pilares de este pueblo en la frontera de Tamaulipas.
