After a two-year hiatus, the Sydney International Boat Show(SIBS)
resumed with the 53rd edition of what has become the largest marine lifestyle event in the region. From July 28th through August 1st, the city of Sydney’s Darling Harbour transformed into a brilliant showcase of watersports equipment, boats, yachts and a full spectrum of marine-related gear. Commanding a prominent position at the Cockle Bay entrance of the SIBS Marina, the brand new Horizon FD80 was the star of the five-day show. Launched in May 2022, the stunning Horizon FD80 is configured with a split-use skylounge and is the very first FD80 to feature an open galley on the main deck. Specified for the Australian market, this ground-breaking FD80 features a four-stateroom layout and a sophisticated interior designed to appeal to the Sydney yachting market. Rapidly becoming one of the acclaimed high-volume FD Series’ most popular models, the FD80 Skyline offers expansive floor-to-ceiling sections of glass on the main deck, spacious accommodations, a fully equipped beach club and vast deck areas. The open galley design further enhances the significant feeling of spaciousness that the FD Series design affords. The interior spaces of the FD80 on display boast a contemporary yet cozy ambience, with satin waterbleached walnut and dyed Koto as the main woods with brushed dark bronze metallic inlays as accents. mood, where modern, hi-tech materials — such as a backlit silver metallic wall feature — create accents reminiscent of a silver sky, clouds and snowflakes, and a floating lighting design mimics the warm glow from candles or a fireplace (See feature article on page 24.). It was this stand-out interior and well-designed layout that drew the attention of many show attendees. As a result, the yacht was sold during the show, with another client making a deposit on a new build FD80 that will be commercially classed for charter. Alongside the FD80, Horizon Yachts Australia’s (HYAUS) diverse showcase included an E75 model as well. Boasting a three-stateroom layout, the E75 offers a spacious salon with a country kitchen forward, an enclosed skylounge and plentiful al fresco deck areas. Historically the most popular Horizon yacht model in the Australian market, the E75 features a sleek and streamlined profile, with a proven hull design that makes her an exceptionally seaworthy build for Australian waters. In addition to fielding inquiries on the two models on display, HYAUS reports keen interest in the ingenious and seaworthy Jonathan Quinn Barnett-designed V68 model, as well as a new FD90 coming to the market soon. This exciting five-stateroom new build has been constructed to AMSA 2C Survey and features a BBQ and Jacuzzi on the boat deck. “Selling two FD80 yachts as a result of this year’s show is yet another testament to the increasing popularity of this high-volume model in the Australian market, where there is a lot of interest in building boats to Survey,” says HYAUS Director Mark Western. “The FD Series yachts appeal to many clients for their incredible volume-to-length ratio. They offer huge deck spaces, from the aft deck to the foredeck to the flybridge with an enclosed pilothouse and massive entertainment deck with lounge, barbecue, bar, Jacuzzi and sunpads. Best of all, the FD80 and FD90 are under 24 meters, which is the key for crewing and securing a berth, and they offer the complete package when it comes to charter.”
