HEAD COACH • FIRST SEASON • THIRD YEAR AT SACRAMENTO STATE OREGON, 2002 Jamie Craighead was promoted to head women’s basketball coach on May 1, 2009. At age 29, she is the youngest Division I women’s basketball coach in the country. Craighead spent the 2007-08 season as the team’s top assistant, before being promoted to associate head coach by former head coach Dan Muscatell in the summer of 2008. Coordinating the Hornets’ offense and working with the team’s perimeter players, Craighead helped lead the team to a 7-9 Big Sky Conference record in 2008-09, the best mark in program history. During her two years directing the Sacramento State offense, Craighead has helped develop seniors Charday Hunt and Erika Edwards into arguably the conference’s top 1-2 scoring punch. Hunt ranked third in the conference in scoring (14.3 ppg) and raised her averages across the board in conference play, including increasing her scoring average (15.2 ppg). She earned second team all-Big Sky accolades, the highest of any Hornet since the 2005-06 season. Edwards averaged 11.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game during conference play, and led the conference with 13 double-digit rebounding performances. The entire pace of the game will change during the 2009-10 season, as the Hornets will be debuting a new up-tempo style of play that will consist of full court play on both ends of the floor. This system led to the Hornets posting a 126-74 exhibition victory over Dominican in a game where seven players scored in double figures, and four posted double-doubles. Prior to her time in the Green and Gold, Craighead spent two years as an assistant at Portland State. A former player at Oregon, Craighead served as the Vikings’ recruiting coordinator and also worked with the post players. In her first year at Portland State, she helped develop a pair of all-conference performers in guard/forward Kelsey Kahle and center Brianna Thompson. Kahle would post the most prolific freshman season in school history, tying for third among the nation’s freshmen in scoring at 17.3 ppg and tied for eighth in rebounding at 8.3 rpg. She would earn first team all-Big Sky Conference honors and was named the conference’s co-outstanding freshman. Prior to working at Portland State, Craighead was an assistant at Div. II powerhouse Seattle Pacific under the guidance of two-time NCAA Division II Coach of the Year Gordy Presnell. Craighead served as Presnell’s top assistant for two seasons, and coached Seattle Pacific to a 99-75 win over Alaska Fairbanks on Dec. 4, 2004, while Presnell was on leave. Seattle Pacific finished the 2004-05 season ranked No. 2 in the nation. While playing at Oregon, the Ducks made three trips to the NCAA Tournament and captured the 2002 WNIT championship her senior season. She finished her career second on the school’s career list for three-point field goals with 182, and ranked seventh in three-point field goal percentage at 36.9 percent. Craighead was an honorable mention academic all-Pacific Conference 10 selection in 2002. She graduated from Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in educational studies. A native of Elma, Wash., Craighead attended Elma High School, where she was the Washington 2A Player of the Year and a four-time all-league selection. She finished her career setting school records for points (1,669), assists (653), steals (405) and blocked shots (168).

ASSISTANT COACHES JOSH SUTTLES ASSISTANT COACH • FIRST SEASON SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI, 1997

Josh Suttles was named the program’s top assistant on June 9, 2009. Suttles comes to Sacramento from SUNY-Cobleskill, where he spent six years as the school’s head coach. Suttles posted a 125-44 overall record with the Fighting Tigers, leading the team through a transition from junior college to a Division III institution. In their first year in Division III, Suttles led the team to a 19-8 overall record, which included an 18-game winning streak and a first-place regular season finish in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The team was rewarded as the top seed and host school for the Eastern Coast Athletic Conference Upstate Region Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. “Josh brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience,” Craighead said. “He has outstanding people skills, and his experience at Cobleskill has prepared him well for the Division I level. Josh will be a terrific on-court coach as well as an excellent recruiter. I am thrilled to have him join my coaching staff.” Suttles took over a SUNY-Cobleskill program in 2003 that had combined for just nine wins the previous two years, and in his second season produced a 22-6 record. During the five years he directed the Fighting Tigers in the junior college ranks, the team ranked in the top five in the nation in scoring defense four times and reached the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament three times. Suttles coached 13 all-Mountain Valley Conference selections, nine NJCAA Region III Division III all-region honorees, three NJCAA Division III Academic All-America recipients and two NJCAA Division III All-America selections during his time at Cobleskill. Prior to his time in New York, Suttles worked as a men’s basketball assistant at his alma mater, Southern Mississippi, from 2000-02, before taking a job in the school’s admissions office in 2003. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., he earned bachelor’s degrees in physical education and coaching and sports administration, before earning a master’s in sports administration in 2001 from Southern Miss.

ASSISTANT COACH • SECOND SEASON OREGON, 2005 Andrea Bills begins her second season as an assistant coach at Sacramento State, and will work with the Hornets’ post players. Under the guidance of Bills, the Hornets had two of the top five rebounders in the Big Sky last season in Erika Edwards and Atty Boyer. Edwards returns for her senior year after posting a Big Sky leading 13 double-digit rebound games a season ago. Bills came to the Nest after finishing a professional career that spanned five countries in the course of three seasons. Bills spent the 2007-08 professional season with the Lithuanian team Arvi Marijampole of the Lietuvos Moteru Krepsinio Lyga, where she was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Prior to her stint in Lithuania, Bills had professional stops from 2005-07 in Spain, China, the Ukraine, and Israel. A native of Moreno Valley, Calif., Bills graduated from the University of Oregon in 2005 with a degree in psychology, after leading the Ducks to the second round of the NCAA Tournament during her senior year. Bills, who stands 6-foot-3, earned all-Pacific 10 Conference honors during her final year in Eugene, averaging 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She left Oregon ranking 12th in school history in career points (1,213) and seventh in career rebounds (825). She shared the floor with head coach Jamie Craighead during her freshman season at Oregon, where the duo started 16 games together.

ADAM ZEDONIS ASSISTANT COACH • SECOND SEASON SAINT ANSELM, 1999

Adam Zedonis begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Hornets in 2009-10. Zedonis heads up the team’s film exchange and is also in charge of advance game scouting. Zedonis came to the Hornets prior to the 2008-09 season after working for the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings during the previous six years. He had served as the Community Service Coordinator for Maloof Sports and Entertainment, the owners of the Kings, from 2004-08. After spending two years working in a similar capacity for the Warriors, Zedonis coordinated community outreach programs for the Monarchs and Kings, and handled the teams’ charitable contributions. With the Warriors from 2002-03, Zedonis was the co-director of the team’s basketball camps, serving as both a public relations manager and as a camp coach. Prior to his experience as a camp coach, Zedonis spent a season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Saint Anselm College, which is located in Manchester, N.H. While there, Zedonis was the recruiting coordinator, and also handled the program’s marketing and alumni relation responsibilities. The Hawks reached the NCAA DIvision II Elite Eight during that season, losing to Metro State, which went on to the win the NCAA Championship. Zedonis is no stranger to the basketball floor, having been a four-year letterwinner at Saint Anselm from 1995-99. During his career, Zedonis scored 1,091 points, grabbed 614 rebounds and blocked 65 shots for the Division II Hawks. He was a second team all-Northeast 10 Conference selection during the 1996-97 season, while also being named second team all-Northeast Region by the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Zedonis led the Hawks in rebounding each of his final three seasons, and posted the third highest single-season blocked shot total in school history (26). He was also the co-captain of the 1998-99 Hawk team that appeared in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament. He currently resides in Sacramento with his wife Katherine, who is Sacramento State’s Athletic Compliance and Financial Services Director.

Jourdan Willard begins her first season as the director of basketball operations. She spent the 2008-09 season as the team’s undergraduate assistant coach, where she helped conduct the team’s film exchange and also assisted in perimeter development. In her new role, Willard is responsible for many of the day-to-day activities of the basketball program, and also assists with the new Full Court Press women’s basketball booster club. Willard spent two seasons (2006-08) as a letterwinner on the squad before seeing her playing career end prematurely due to a hip injury. She appeared in 19 contests in 2007-08, making one start at the forward position despite being unable to practice for the majority of the season.Willard led the team in field goal percentage (.500) while averaging 1.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. During the 2006-07 season, she started 15 of the final 17 games of the season after sitting out the first 13 games of the season due to NCAA transfer regulations, averaging 6.2 points per game. Willard had four double-figure scoring games and two-nine rebound performances. She posted a career-high 15 points against Portland State, shooting a career best 6-of-10 from the field. She is a product of El Camino High School in Sacramento, where she is the school’s second all-time leading scorer. Willard was a two-time first team all-Capital Athletic League choice for the Eagles. Willard graduated this past spring with a degree in business administration.

AS A FRESHMAN (2006-07) Saw action in 29 of the Hornets’ 30 games during her first season, making six starts...averaged 4.1 points and was second on the team in rebounds, collecting 122...a versatile threat inside and out, knocked down 22 three-pointers...scored a then career-high 14 points against Northern Arizona on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 three pointers...knocked down a season-best four three-pointers against UCLA on Nov. 25, and against Pacific on Dec. 15...tallied a season-high 10 rebounds against Saint Mary’s on Dec. 28. BIG SKY CONFERENCE The Big Sky Conference is currently in its 47th year of athletic competition in 2009-10. The Big Sky is an NCAA Division I member in all sports, with member institutions classified in the Football Championship Subdivision (formally I-AA). The Big Sky returned to a nine-team format in 2006 with the addition of Northern Colorado. The current lineup includes Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State and Weber State. The league has become one of the strongest Division I conferences in the West and is a national leader in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Big Sky Conference was established in 1963 by six charter members – Idaho, Idaho State, Gonzaga, Montana, Montana State and Weber State. Those six schools formed the foundation of the Big Sky before the league expanded in 1970 by adding Boise State and Northern Arizona. Gonzaga left the Sky in 1979 and was replaced by Nevada, which gave the league eight members. The conference grew to nine schools in 1987 with the addition of Eastern Washington. The 1990s saw change in the makeup of the league, beginning in 1992 when Nevada departed and put the Big Sky back at eight teams. In 1996, Boise State and Idaho left and at the same time, the conference added Portland State, Sacramento State and Cal State Northridge. The Big Sky maintained nine teams for five years before Cal State Northridge departed in the spring of 2001. With the addition of Northern Colorado in 2006-07, the Big Sky spreads across eight states spanning from the Pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountain Front. The Big Sky is represented along the entire west coast with schools in Washington, Oregon and California. League schools also range up and down the Rocky Mountains with institutions in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, and now Colorado.

Of the nine western-most states in the contiguous United States, only one, Nevada, is not represented in the Big Sky. On Feb 25, 1963, the name Big Sky was adopted by the six presidents of the charter members as the name of the new conference. The name Big Sky originated in a novel written by the late A.B. (Bud) Guthrie of Great Falls, Mont., in 1947 entitled “The Big Sky.” Jack Hollowell, a former Montana advertising director, promoted the Big Sky theme for the Treasure State. While on a track and field trip from Pocatello, Idaho, to Missoula, Mont., the legendary Dubby Holt of Idaho State saw a “Welcome to Big Sky Country” sign as his team entered Montana. Holt, and his athletes thought “Big Sky” would be a perfect name for the new conference. Harry Missildine of the Spokane SpokesmanReview called for the newly formed league to be named the Big Sky Conference in his column dated Feb. 20, 1963. The Big Sky sponsors championships in 14 sports, including men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, basketball and tennis. In addition, there are also championships in football, and women’s volleyball, women's golf and soccer. The 2009-10 season will mark the 22nd year that the Big Sky Conference will sponsor championships in women’s sports. The former Mountain West Conference existed from 1982-88, sponsoring championships for women’s sports at the same institutions the Big Sky had men’s programs. The Big Sky merged with the Mountain West in 1988, forming one league for both men and women. Doug Fullerton, the fifth commissioner of the Big Sky Conference, will enter his 15th year at the helm. Fullerton took over the Big Sky on July 1, 1995, replacing longtime commissioner Ron Stephenson. Stephenson served the league for 14 years. Steve Belko was the commissioner from 1977-81 while John Roning held the post from 1971-77. The first league commissioner was Jack Friel, who served from 1963-71.

RETIRED JERSEY • KRISTY RYAN #21 After four stellar seasons with the Hornets, Sacramento State retired its ﬁrst women’s basketball jersey in honor of Kristy Ryan in a halftime ceremony at the Hornets Nest on Dec. 20, 2003. Ryan starred for the Hornets from 1990-94 and still owns most of the scoring records in school history. The Cool, Calif., native capped off her career by leading the country in scoring with 28.0 points per game and ﬁnishing third in the nation in rebounding with 13.3 per game during her senior season. That year, Ryan earned second team All-America honors as a player and second team Academic All-America honors as a student-athlete. In addition, she was named the ARCO am/pm Northern California Women’s NCAA Player of the Year. During the 1993-94 season, Ryan set school records for points (727), points per

game (28.0), rebounds (347), rebounds per game (13.3), free throws made (245) and field goals made (240). Ryan was named MVP at the UC Irvine Marriott Freedom Bowl Classic after scoring a career-high 45 points and recording 15 rebounds against the Anteathers on Dec. 4, 1993. Her play not only made a name for herself, but drew national media attention to Sacramento State in 1993-94. Ryan’s accolades were featured in the USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury-News and The Sacramento Bee. Among the school’s career leaders, she ranks first in points (2,064), field goals (733), free throws (572) and steals (179), second in rebounds (911) and seventh in blocks (52). Following her career at Sacramento State, Ryan played professionally in Europe until 2000.

Quick Facts • Sacramento State is the seventh largest university in the 23-campus CSU system, enrolling a multicultural student body of more than 29,000. The 300-acre campus is sheltered by more than 3,000 trees and dotted with ﬂower gardens, including 3 million square feet of building space. Miles of trails stretch along the nearby river parkway, linking the University and student housing with recreational areas such as Folsom Lake and Old Sacramento. • Quality teaching is a top priority, and classes are small and personalized. More than 80 percent of recent graduates say their professors were enthusiastic and genuinely enjoyed teaching. • Preparing students for a career is a vital part of the education here. Thousands of students from all majors earn academic credit working in internship and co-op positions, many of which are paid. • Sacramento State, often called “Sac State,” was founded as Sacramento State College in 1947 during a time of intense demand for higher education after World War II. We moved to our permanent location on the banks of the historic American River in 1953. In 1972, we were renamed California State University, Sacramento. • The University is in the midst of an ambitious new master plan that will remake Sacramento State into a residential campus and add some 1.5 million square feet of building space. The plan, to guide campus growth in coming decades, includes additional housing, and a recreation and wellness center. • Unlimited bus and light rail service throughout Sacramento is free for University students. Students may attend all home athletic events for free and attend other campus events for free or at a discount. More than half the students join one of the more than 200 student organizations, which include 35 fraternities and sororities.

• Sacramento State offers 60 undergraduate and 40 graduate degrees in eight Colleges. Teacher education is the largest academic program, followed by business, criminal justice, communication studies, psychology and computer science. The student-to-faculty ratio is 20 to 1; more than 70 percent of classes have fewer than 30 students. • Attracting students from all over the world, the criminal justice program is one of the largest in the United States. • One in 26 residents of the six-county Sacramento Region is a Sacramento State graduate. The University directly and indirectly contributes more than $900 million to the region’s economy annually. • Almost 700 new school teachers graduate from Sacramento State each year. • Seventy-eight percent of students say that Sacramento State was their ﬁrst or only choice. • Sacramento State was the site of the 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 NCAA Div. Partnering With Athletics For Excellence When the Sacramento State student body overwhelmingly passed a referendum in the spring of 1995, it began a partnership between the Hornet Athletics Department and Associated Students, Inc. That vote by the students helps fund the athletics department and has been a key factor in the recent success. ASI is a student-run, non-proﬁt corporation that represents the student body in the governance of the University. One of ASI’s goals is to facilitate student participation in a full range of campus life and learning outside the classroom. Guided by this goal, ASI supports intercollegiate, recreational, and intramural sports, which is not only an important part of campus life, but an arena in which leadership skills are developed. ASI also operates the Green Sting student organization, the Sacramento State Aquatic Center (which is home to the Hornet rowing team), the Challenge Center, Peak Adventures and numerous other student organizations.

Within easy driving distance are San Francisco, the Napa and Sonoma valleys, Yosemite Valley and the Lake Tahoe region’s ski slopes. • Founded in 1849, Sacramento was California’s first charter city and is at the heart of California history – the gold rush, Pony Express and first continental railroad all began in Sacramento. The city’s rich historical heritage, commitment to quality of life, and abundance of trees and parkland contributed to Newsweek magazine naming Sacramento one of the ten best cities in the United States. • Sacramento is home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, the Sacramento River Cats (Oakland A’s Triple-A affiliate) and the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs. • Sacramento has also become a tourist center with attractions including the State Capitol building, North America’s largest railroad museum, the Old Sacramento historic area, the California State History Museum and the Crocker Art Museum.

Dr. Alexander Gonzalez has served more than three decades as a professor and education leader, including serving as president of California State University, Sacramento, since 2003. As the ﬁrst person in his family to graduate from college, Dr. Gonzalez has devoted his career to ensuring greater opportunities for students. He grew up in East Los Angeles with six siblings, graduating from high school at a time when students did not have the same options for higher education that they have today. Dr. Gonzalez enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 17, served four years and then used the G.I. Bill to graduate from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif. He graduated with honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He later earned a master’s in psychology and doctorate from the University of California, Santa Cruz, before serving as a postdoctoral research fellow at Stanford University. His experience includes six years as president of California State University, San Marcos, and 18 years at Fresno State, where he was a faculty member and chair of the Psychology Department before becoming the university’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. At Sacramento State, Dr. Gonzalez implemented his Destination 2010 initiative to transform the campus into a premier metropolitan university. The bold initiative seeks to make Sacramento State a campus of choice for students in the Sacramento region and beyond.

Following his belief that universities and communities must work together to improve lives and opportunities, Dr. Gonzalez serves on the Sutter Health Board of Directors and the Pomona College Board of Trustees. He previously served on the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans and the Valley Vision Board of Directors. His service on several boards and commissions includes six years as a commissioner for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the accrediting agency for higher education institutions in the western United States. He also served as chair of the Governing Board of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. His commitment to the California State University system includes serving on a work group that reviewed and recommended corrective action on remedial education, and, more recently, as a member of a committee of presidents considering policy on enrollment management, the CSU’s Technology Steering Committee, and the Institute for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Gonzalez is Sacramento State’s 11th president. His wife, Gloria, is also a graduate of the CSU. They have two sons.

Dr. Terry Wanless’ seven-year tenure as Sacramento State’s Director of Athletics has seen growth unparalleled in the school’s 18-year Division I history. His vision of broad success in the department has come to fruition over the last three years where the Hornets have combined to win 21 conference championships. That includes an unprecedented eight conference titles during both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years. In addition, the program has claimed back-to-back Big Sky Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophies. In fact, of the 330 Div. I athletics programs, SI.com ranked Sacramento State as the 36th best athletics program during the 2007-08 academic year. The 2008-09 West Region Athletic Director of the Year for the Football Championship Subdivision, Wanless has overseen significant facility enhancement to the athletic facilities. The biggest change came during the spring of 2008 with the opening of the Broad Fieldhouse, which serves as the home to Hornet football and track and field, as well as athletic training and strength and conditioning. The Eli and Edythe Broad Fieldhouse is the first step of an elaborate plan that began with the passing of a referendum by the Sacramento State student body. That vote will also lead to the creation of a recreation and wellness center which will benefit the entire student body and is expected to open in the fall of 2010. Wanless has served on numerous NCAA committees, and just completed a term as a member of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision selection committee and the Div. I Football Issues Committee. Previously, he was a member of the NCAA Football rules committee and the NCAA Peer Review committee. Wanless has been a visible member of the Sacramento State athletics family, constantly representing the University and department at public outings and speaking engagements. His commitment to the student-athlete has also been clear as both he and his wife, Joanne, attend the majority of Hornet home athletic events and support several teams on the road. His leadership and academic support have been evident to the student-athletes in other ways as well. The department’s Life Skills Program has seen rapid growth, significantly increasing the number of summer and fifth-year scholarships available to Hornet student-athletes. The Life Skills program has also launched the program’s first computer lab and offers Hornet student-athletes tutoring as well as academic counseling.

Over the last seven years, Sacramento State student-athletes have posted nearly 2,000 term GPAs of 3.0 or above, and close to 500 Hornets have earned conference all-academic honors during that same time period. His efforts in restoring the department’s booster club structure as well as aggressively improving the University’s collegiate licensing program, while not readily visible, are projects that will surely enhance the program’s financial footing in years to come. Athletically, the Hornets have also seen continued growth and success on the field of play. During his seven years at Sacramento State, 22 teams and 125 individuals have advanced to NCAA postseason competition. Wanless’ efforts to put the Hornets on the map have been instrumental in helping make Sacramento State the unofficial “home of NCAA Championships”. During his seven years of leadership, Sacramento State has served as host to seven NCAA championships (four track, two rowing, one volleyball) as well as the 2004 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. Prior to Sacramento State, Wanless served as athletics director at the University of North Dakota from 1990-1999, guiding the program to one of its most successful decades in school history. During that time, North Dakota enjoyed strong competitive success, winning four NCAA national championships and 36 conference titles. Additionally, 25 other teams finished second in their respective conferences. Before his position at North Dakota, Wanless was director of intercollegiate athletics at Western Carolina for four years and held a variety of positions, including director of intercollegiate athletics, at Towson University in Maryland. Wanless earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Black Hills State, a master’s degree in physical education from Northern Illinois and a doctorate in athletics administration from Temple. He and his wife, Joanne, are the parents of two children. Their daughter, Heather, and her husband, Chad Collins, reside in Lexington, Ky., with their daughter Hadley and son Jack. Their son Troy, and his wife, Jesi, live in Minneapolis with their daughter Elli.

The Student-Athlete Resource Center offers academic advising, tutoring and mentoring, NCAA rules education and compliance, athletic ﬁnancial services support, and life skills programming for all student-athletes of Sacramento State’s Division I Intercollegiate Athletics program. The S.A.R.C.’s services and programming are provided in an assortment of ways including individual advising, orientations, group and team meetings, coaches’ compliance and rules education sessions, freshmen seminar classes, and a variety of student development and academic workshops. S.A.R.C. Director Paul Edwards, Academic Athletic Services Coordinator Laurie Dahlberg, Football Athletic Advisor Bob Shook and Life Skills and Student-Athlete Development Coordinator Mark McGushin serve as the primary advisors to the student-athletes. Additionally, McGushin coordinates the mentoring program which addresses student-athletes experiencing academic difﬁculties. Athletic Compliance and Financial Services Director Katherine Zedonis and Compliance Coordinator Tina Westerhold are responsible for the administration of NCAA eligibility rules education and compliance for all intercollegiate teams, including issues related to athletic financial aid of student-athletes. The Athletic Compliance Office is responsible for developing, monitoring and enforcing a compliance program that ensures the integrity of the institution within the guidelines of the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and the University. Admission Counselor/NCAA Initial Eligibility Coordinator Josh Collins services Sacramento State student-athletes with admission processing responsibilities and monitoring of NCAA initial-eligibility requirements. Collins works closely with both new transfer and incoming freshmen student-athletes. He is the main contact at Sacramento State for student-athletes working with NCAA Eligibility Center procedures.

The goal of the athletic training staff is to provide all Sacramento State student-athletes with high quality health care. Headed by full-time certified athletic trainers Steve DeHart, Heather Farwig and Joe Ramos, the Hornets’ athletic training facility provides state-of-the-art support and the services of highly trained sports medicine and health care professionals. Should an injury occur, student-athletes are seen immediately by their sport’s specific athletic trainer, and are referred, when necessary, to the appropriate medical provider or facility. Sacramento State boasts three athletic training facilities (two located in the physical education complex and one at the Broad Fieldhouse). All athletic training facilities are equipped with the finest therapeutic modalities and rehabilitative apparatus. A staff of three team physicians (Dr. Alan Hirahara, Dr. Ronald Sockolov, Dr. Harold Strauch) and a skillful and talented athletic training staff tend to the medical and rehabilitative needs of each and every student-athlete. Also assisting in the health of the student-athletes is a Kaiser physician, two dentists, a physical therapist and a chiropractor. Sacramento State’s athletic training staff consists of three full-time certified athletic trainers, three graduate assistants and more than 15 athletic training students preparing for a career in sports medicine.
