La Finta Giardiniera (1775) is an opera of secrets and lies, but also of forgiveness and reconciliation. These are qualities that the young Mozart could express in music like none other. Seven characters with complicated love lives meet an eighteen-yearold composer full of imagination and musical genius. Sandrina is a high-born girl, so why has she disguised herself as a gardener to find work in the Mayor's household? The Mayor falls head-over-heels in love with his new 'garden girl', much to the annoyance of his servant, Serpetta, who would like to marry her rich employer. The good-natured (but poor) Nardo is waiting in the wings if she doesn't! Meanwhile, the Mayor's highly-strung niece Arminda is supposed to marry Ramiro, but only has eyes for Belfiore. He's a man with something to hide but feels a strange, inexplicable and entirely reciprocated attraction to the disguised Sandrina…

Perth Symphony Orchestra presents well-known orchestral music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The concert begins with Vaughan-Williams' Overture from The Wasps orchestral suite which was originally composed as incidental music for a production of Aristophanes' The Wasps at Trinity College, Cambridge. The Concierto de Aranjuez for classical guitar and orchestra, performed by soloist Michael McGeary, undoubtedly helped Joaquín Rodrigo become one of the most significant Spanish composers of the twentieth century. The second half of the concert features Dvořák's Symphony No 9 in E minor From the New World, inspired by Native American melodies that the composer heard during his time in America.

Although he owns a unique and distinctively soulful contemporary voice, comparisons to artists like Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding illustrate its strength, power and quality. Finally returning in 2016 with a second record following four years of selfquestioning and a loss of confidence in his craft, it has turned out to be an explosive year for Michael. What he eventually delivered was one of the most expansive albums of the year, and one that should surely stand the test of time. Love & Hate reached No 1 in the album charts was nominated for this year’s Mercury Music Prize and deservedly earned Michael nominations for the BRIT's, Q, MOBO and NME Awards.
The First Lady of Musical Theatre, Elaine Paige has performed live in concerts all over the world. Skipinnish have rocketed to the top of the Scottish music scene recently and their ascent is accelerating! Being named Live Act of the Year at the Scots Trad Awards, releasing four consecutive chart topping self-penned singles, and a string of headline appearances at some of Britain’s biggest music festivals have been just some of the Highland band’s recent successes. Perth Concert Hall will be a highlight of the band’s winter tour 2017. The audience are sure to be bouncing in their seats to the wild driving tune sets and raising the roof singing along to the band’s now classic anthems, The Island, December, Western Ocean, and the massively popular Walking on the Waves. Skipinnish never disappoint and this will be a night to remember!
Red Pine Timber Co's winning blend of Americana, country, soul, blues and southern rock has earned them a formidable reputation as a great live band who have made the Perth Concert Hall stage their own in a series of triumphant hometown shows over the last couple of years. Even more than the sum of its many talented parts, Red Pine boasts a magnetic front pairing of songwriter Gav Munro and the fabulous voice of Katie Whittaker with Dave MacFarlane’s fiddle adding a subtle celtic flavour. The band’s real trump card is the imaginative brass arrangements of trombonist Chris Marshall creating a unique sound, adding depth and soul to an already combustible mixture.

Paul's uniquely soulful voice is a must for his millions of fans around the world and his songs have been performed by some of the biggest names in music including The Eagles, Diana Ross and Tom Jones. He is constantly in demand as a session keyboardist, having recorded and toured with Elton John, Van Morrison, Roger Waters and BB King, and most recently on Eric Clapton's world tour. Dubbed by the BBC as 'The Man with the Golden Voice', Paul is undoubtedly a key figure in British pop history and an all-round musical talent. And as his devoted fans know all too well, a Paul Carrack show is truly something very special.
Now a Perth festive tradition, Phil Cunningham is once again calling his musical pals together and re-opening his Christmas songbook. Skerryvore entered 2017 having, once again, been recognised as the Live Act of the Year 2016 at the MG Alba Scottish Traditional Music Awards, an award they previously won in 2011. The 8-piece band all bring their musical influences to bear on their buoyant folk-rock sound mix. The more they have experimented with their blend of anthemic songwriting and hard-driving instrumental sets, the more their signature sound has evolved. ‘the hottest Celtic rockers on the block’ Daily Record The Co.Clare accordionist Sharon Shannon is renowned for collaborations across musical styles the list including Bono, Sinead O’Connor, Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, The Waterboys, Nigel Kennedy and Shane MacGowan is testament to Sharon's versatility and talent.
Scotland’s leading folk band, Breabach unites the talents of Calum MacCrimmon (pipes/ whistles/bouzouki), Ewan Robertson (guitar/ vocals), James Mackenzie (pipes/flute/whistles), Megan Henderson (fiddle/ vocals/stepdance) and James Lindsay (double bass). ‘how catalyzing Scottish traditions with contemporary creative imagination should be done’ The Scotsman

Two world-class acts perform beautiful Gaelic songs and fiery fiddle tunes. Julie Fowlis' exquisite voice, interpretation of Scottish Gaelic culture and ability to make folk music contemporary, dynamic and irresistible, have made her a multi-award winning crossover star. She performed at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony and sang the theme song to Disney Pixar's Brave.
To simply call Kris Drever ‘a folksinger’ is like saying that LAU, the acclaimed band in which he also performs, is ‘a Scottish folk trio’. Both true descriptions but ones that only hint at the joys contained in the music of each. His latest album If Wishes Were Horses covers themes of education, politics, sex, love, ennui, selfemployment, social migration and Shetland.
‘an exquisite, gently emotional set’ The Guardian
‘immense yet ultra-supple sophistication, musicianship of the first order... a breath of fresh air’ Songlines
‘a richness of sound that can verge on the symphonic... from reflective to mesmerising to downright barnstorming’ The Herald
The finest of all our fiddle bands, Session A9 are Charlie McKerron, Adam Sutherland, Kevin Henderson, Gordon Gunn (fiddles), David 'Chimp' Robertson (percussion), Marc Clement (guitar) and Brian MacAlpine (keyboards) and are a thrilling live act.
