With construction work on the restoration and redevelopment of Perth Theatre underway, we go out and about to a Perthshire barn for an exclusive co-production with the National Theatre of Scotland. The 306: Dawn explores the personal stories behind the 306 soldiers executed for cowardice, mutiny or desertion during WW1. Our creative learning participants take centre stage at our Youth Arts Festival and young ones can create a musical in two weeks at Horsecross Arts’ Summer School Wizard of Oz. We welcome Palestine Youth Orchestra performing alongside students from UK Conservatoires.

Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis Sun 31 Jul: 7.30pm | Perth Concert Hall £32.50; concessions £29.50 (inc £1.50 booking fee per ticket)
Three UK music greats come together for an ultra-rare trio show which will showcase their love and mastery of American R&B, soul and country, albeit with a strong British accent. Nick Lowe’s short-lived career as a pop star and lengthy term as a musicians’ musician have given way to his current second act - a silver-haired, tender-hearted, sharp-tongued singer/songwriter. And as such he has no equal. Among his many hits, Paul Carrack has written How Long (Ace), Love Will Keep Us Alive (The Eagles) and Over My Shoulder (Mike and The Mechanics) and has one of the finest voices in the business. Andy Fairweather Low is the guitarist’s guitarist. His CV reads like a who’s who of music: Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Roger Waters, Stevie Wonder, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and many more. From the early days of Amen Corner to his own solo hits like Wide Eyed And Legless and his current band The Low Riders, this man always delivers. Support comes from Texan husband-and-wife duo Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis. ‘Bruce and Kelly—one of the truly great female country singers on the planet—let their plaintive, tight harmonies deliver the goods’ Country Weekly

The 306: Dawn is a new piece of music theatre from the National Theatre of Scotland. Based on real events, it charts the heartbreaking journey of Joseph Byers (17), Private Harry Farr (25) and Lance-Sergeant Joseph Willie Stones (24) three of the three hundred and six British soldiers who were executed for cowardice, desertion and mutiny during World War I (1914-18).

Democracy combines the fascination of a John Le Carré thriller with the dynamism of The West Wing. It’s 1969 in West Germany, and charismatic Willy Brandt has been elected Chancellor. When Brandt “dares more democracy”, his own party conspires, plots and tries to destroy him. The passion of elections in Scotland, the intrigue of the European Referendum and the race to the US Presidency make this witty and compelling new production a hot ticket. Age guidance: 12+

The core of our contemporary art programme in 2016 is the concept of the interval, the half-way comfort break which enables us to prolong the suspension of disbelief and reflect collectively on the ideas and intensify the dramatic act. While we take a pause from the performances staged at Perth Theatre we offer you an extended interval which lasts a year intersected by three quarterly exhibitions. Interval and Stage are the first of these three exhibitions accompanied by live performances and master classes, talks and tours. Iliyana Nedkova Creative Director, Contemporary Art

by White & Givan
Take a deep breath and plunge into this brave and moving duet by Scotland’s leading contemporary dance duo White & Givan. Feel the hard-won trust between the two protagonists who find themselves in the throes of love and agony, pleasure and triumph. ‘The choreography is tender and emotive. The music unsettling and then soothing... The suspense made my hair stand on end!’ MumbleDance Supported by Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, Traverse Theatre and Creative Scotland

The Nutcracker is a wonderful introduction to ballet for anyone who has never experienced it and still so special to anyone who has.
