A man is jogging along Vienna’s Karl-Marx-Hof, the longest single residential building in the world. Will he reach the building’s end in a single shot?

3. Hypomania (2005) 11 min Sam Spreckley (Scotland)

A cinematic riot of colour, home movies, found footage and artist’s own video vignettes alternating in a trance-like state.

Evoking the magic of early cinema, the artist highlights the secret grammar of cue marks which help projectionists to load the next reel of celluloid. The artist’s meticulous re-make in colour of the dramatic moon landing exposes the theatricality of our collective memory.

The classic Pac-Man video game as a metaphor for our dependancy on digital devices when interacting with our natural and urban environment.

10. Counting to the End of Time (2006) 9 min Lei Cox (UK/Norway)

Time is stretched out to infinity or white noise according to a giant digital clock gone out of control.

11. Melter 2 (2005) 4 min Takeshi Murata (USA)

Exploring formal qualities of melting, rippling, and bubbling, Murata’s abstract experiment in hypnotic perception is at once organic and totally digital.

12. Invisible Master (2014) 10 min Denis Mallon (Ireland/Scotland) Camera: Douglas McBride (Scotland)

Shot on location at Perth Theatre this is a tribute to Alexander Reid, Perth-born costume designer (1929–2006) who adorned theatres at home and away.

13. How to Read Between the Lines or Method for Self-Education (2008) 4 min Valentin Stephanoff (Bulgaria/France) The mystery of reading captured in shots gliding along the gap between lines of newsprint in French, English and Bulgarian.

Time is money and horror suggests this masquarade of hidden faces inspired by Edgar Alan Poe’s story The Masque of the Red Death.

The Famous Collaboration (2013) Marshmallow Laser Feast (UK) + Studio Roso (Denmark/UK)

1542 responses to the question, What would you like to be famous for? have been laser cut into copper strips forming a spiral inspired by whisky stills.

From Cezanne to Warhol, this ‘history of art’ is redrawn according to the iconographic signage style of airports.

19. Kitchen Notes (2007-10) 5 min Joanna Bastos (Portugal) The artist employed as a nanny communicates with her employer via written notes that highlight the absurdities of the human condition.

Drawings with a dose of dark humour and news appeal appear as reports from the hot spots of the art world from Venice to Paris.

Drift away with these cinematic landscapes extracted from the popular video game Unreal Tournament.

22 Residents (2014) Anne Binckebanck (Germany/Scotland)

Created with older people in West Lothian, this photographic triptych imbues our notions of ageing with the sensitivity and glamour of studio portraiture.

The portrait of the sound artist ‘drawn’ using the cover sleeves of his extensive LP collection.

24. Voyage of No Return (2009) 15 min Ergin Cavusoglu (Bulgaria/Turkey/UK)

Shot on location in Oban this classic father and son tale unravels the notion of the harbour city which witnesses more departures than homecomings. 25. One Minute (2005) 15 min Dalziel + Scullion (Scotland) Music by Craig Armstrong (Scotland/USA) A ‘haiku’ of 15 one-minute studies of cloud formations filmed over specific geographic locations within Scotland from Sionascaig to Sound of Jura. 26. Where Will the Stars Live? (2007) 6 min Katja Loher (Switzerland/USA) Sound: Asako Fujimoto (Japan/Fr/Ger) With a poem by Chilean writer Pablo Neruda at its core this environmental artist’s film plays with our sense of movement, colour, sound and shape.

27. The Time it Takes (2013) 11 min Katrina McPherson + Simon Fildes (Scotland)

Shot on location on the Isle of South Uist, this poetic dance on camera film prompts us to reflect on the time it takes to live, to grow, to love.
