A privilege for guests of Hotel Walther As the guest of Hotel Walther, we chauffeur you once a day to the numerous skiing areas. And that's not all. As one of 100 hotels in Engadine, we have

Life in Engadine takes to the hills between December and April. Glorious slopes of varying levels of difficulty and panoramic terraces with breathtaking views over the whole valley beckon you: a glittering world of white villages. And above this beauty a skier's dream: 9 ski areas and 34 sunny mountain restaurants. Find your very own paradise in Pontresina. Snow hiking, curling, horse-drawn sleighs or cross-country skiing. The cross-country skiing centre Cuntschett links directly to the 200 km network.

an unparalleled offer for you: if you stay more than one night, you can conquer all 350 km of Upper Engadine slopes for CHF 35 per person per day, including public transport!

Happy Birthday winter!

Submerge. Warm up. «AQUA VIVA».

It all began with a bet between the hotelier J. Badrutt and his English summer guests. He claimed that winter in Engadine is much sunnier and much more enjoyable than winter in England. He proposed to pay all costs should his guests find this not to be true. The English guests came and stayed until Easter without costing the hotelier a penny. And they didn't realise the far-reaching effects of this pioneering act. 150 years later, this white winter world is celebrating the cradle of winter tourism. Enjoy events, nostalgia and visions during your stay with us.

The "AQUA VIVA" is a pearl amongst wellness centres. Its composition of space, time and nature creates archaic wellness. The "Massage & Special" treatments complement the relaxing effect created by the swimming pool and sauna landscape. Select from a range of physical applications that avail themselves of substances to promote pure wellbeing such as aroma essences and honey balm.

700 m2 of sensual pleasure. All-encompassing wellness: Experience showers. Sauna. Steam bath. Engadine herbal suite. Mountain stream foot spa with waterfall. Indoor pool. Whirlpool.

Go on a nostalgic bob-sleigh run Talk with athletes around an open fire Read the anniversary book Visit a poster exhibition at the Serletta Gallery Gerry Hofstetter… and many other attractions

Fitness equipment. Solarium. Rest room. Treatments à la carte: Sport massages. Lymph drainage. Therapeutic treatments. St John's Wort oil massages.

The culinary arts of Michael Freudrich He is the heart and soul of our kitchen. He conjures up delicacies that make the hearts of every culinary judge beat faster. Soon he will take his final climb to the zenith of culinary pleasures. But he will show us how to do it right one last time before taking his gentle leave. What has been your creed during 27 years at Hotel Walther? Cooking is a fleeting art, doomed from the beginning to be consumed. That's why I decided to take a backseat as a chef and instead live for the special moment when the guest first tastes the food. The ingredients used in gourmet cooking aren't exactly easy to come by in the High Alps. Where do you find them, if they can't be obtained in the world of mountains and glaciers? Quite right. We have to source products from far and wide to surprise our guests day after day. We compensate for this drawback with good planning and logistics. This does not constitute an extra effort if one thinks ahead. On the other hand, you benefit from the pure and authentic products of this region... Unique ingredients are the mainstay of our natural and authentic cuisine. A fillet of Angus beef from the Muottas Muragl alp is the shining glory on your plate without any adornments. This is your last winter season at Hotel Walther. What are your plans? The journey is the destination and I will have the pleasure of creating many more delicacies for our guests. You'll have to wait and see! You are leaving after the 150-year anniversary of winter tourism. Are these celebrations going to be reflected in your creations? That's pure coincidence. The celebrations we will enrich with a unique 150-year anniversary gourmet menu. And I will only take my leave at the end of the alpine summer. Once our guests are leaving and the hallways and rooms fall silent once more.

(Michael Freudrich has been successfully defending our GaultMillau points for many years. He is from Berlin and chose to make Engadine his home in 1987).

Culinary enchantment on five stages Freudrich's culinary arts: Grand Restaurant and La St端va (15 GaultMillau points) Rustic and original: Colani St端bli and Gondolezza Nightcap: Hotel bar with piano music and smoking lounge
