Dear Reader Welcome to issue 4, Volume 4 and the start of the new Thai Year! This month sports is big with coverage of Golf, the Grand Opening of Hua Hin’s new Sports Club and Polo (twice). We start with the True Thailand Golf Classic Presented by Chang. Held at the Black Mountain Golf Club, this four-day tournament offered the largest prize money for any sports event in Thailand and brought together both the Asian and European Golf Tours. See who went home with the big cardboard check on page 32. Up next is the True Arena Hua Hin Grand Opening which was attended by over 500 people and had Thai sports stars performing their sport throughout the 40 rai complex, catered by the InterContinental it was an event that shouldn’t have been missed, that’s on page 38. Next we get you prepped for the upcoming Asian Beach Polo Championships. It’s the only polo championship played on sand in Asia and is a full day and evening of fun. As always it will be held on the beach in front of the InterConinental. Find out why you need to be there on page 44. Our Let’s Stay feature takes us to the island of Phuket where we tour the 5 star Hyatt Regency Phuket. Sporting the largest infinity pool on the island, which overlooks the Andaman Sea, it’s where you should book your stay next time you’re in Phuket. See for yourself on page 46. One of the most anticipated events in Thailand took place along the mighty Chao Phraya River in mid March, the 2016 King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament. In its 14th year this charitable event is one of the highlights of the social season and raised quite a sum, all for the benefits of these mighty majestic creatures. Check out the pictures on page 54. Our Let’s Go feature takes us back to the Andaman side to the beautiful islands of Kho Phi Phi. With powdery white sand, crystal clear water and thousands of colorful fish, it is tropical heaven, especially after the last tour boat leaves for the day. See where you need to plan your next holiday on page 64. Those are just a few of the stories you’ll find inside this month. As always, thank you for picking us up and we hope you enjoy the read.

L et’s Meet Goetz Bauer What is your full name and age? Goetz Bauer, 43 years What is your current Job Position? General Manager of Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa How long have you lived in Hua Hin or been coming to Hua Hin? I started my new assignment as a General Manger of Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa in September 2015 and moved here in November 2015. I have been living here for nearly 5 months. What did you know about Hua Hin before you moved here? Hua Hin is a nice seaside city and it became famous through the king’s summer residents. By now, Hua Hin is very popular for people living in BKK for a weekend retreat What do you like most about your profession? Every day is different, not one day equals the other. On a daily basis, we create wonderful memorable experiences and build emotional connections. For me it has always been one of the nicest parts of the job in the hotel industry to work with my associates and for our guests. One of my biggest passions is to help growing local talents and help them in their future career. What do you like least about your profession? I love my job but especially for the family it is not always easy to move after few years to the next destination. The finding of building a new social environment is not always easy. What do you like most about Hua Hin? Hua Hin is due to its size and short distances, very accessible. This city makes it easy for new comers finding their way round. My family has already met a lot of nice people who welcomed us to this peaceful city. On the weather aspect, so far we have seen very little rain which we really like. What is your favorite restaurant and why? (please don’t promote your own restaurants) Hua Hin has a good variety of nice restaurants and I have to admit, I have not had the time to try all. Café Mekong
has been one of my favorites and I also enjoy Pizza at Pizza Garden which is very nice and authentic. What do you like to do in your free time and why? I like doing some sport; I love dining-out and spend time with my kids. Once the opening phase is over, I really want to learn kite surfing in Hua Hin. What would you recommend to newcomers to do in Hua Hin and why? I like the Hua Hin Vineyard – for European that is something I miss from home. The combination of an elephant ride and vineyard is quite impressive.
Olympic Committee) while I was working for the Leipzig Marriott Hotel as Director of Rooms. Due to our support, the city of Leipzig was able to win the German wide competition and became official applicant for the Olympic Games 2012. During my time at this property, we hosted VVIPs like Kofi Annan and organized catering for over 5,000 people. What is the most outlandish thing you have ever done and why? Once I had the opportunity to fly a helicopter (birthday gift from my wife) – to fly myself, was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.
Tell us a surprising fact that the public might not know about you? I was once in charge for the accommodation of the NOK (National

“Marina”, a contemporary steak house. From the World Riccardo went on to becoming the Executive Sous Chef at the InterContinental Resort in Bali before charting a course for Hua Hin to join the InterContinental. One of Riccardo’s first actions was to fine tune The InterCon’s Sunday brunch experience which takes place at their Beachfront Azure Restaurant. Sunday Brunch guests can now expect more "International cuisine", comprised of Asian and European dishes. All products both local and imported are carefully selected. Brunch guests will find a wider variety of starters and antipasti, a carving station with roasted pork, whole baked Fish, and long-time braised meat on the
bone. Additionally, they have a sushi and sashimi extravaganza, a la minute wagyu beef tartare, and yellow tail tuna. For dessert, it's a Buffet dessert line with baked cake, an ice cream bar, fresh fruits, and mini individual desserts. Another special difference with the revamped brunch is that Chef Riccardo himself will go around serving selected food to guests. McFarland House

cFarland House is located on the grounds of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hua Hin. It is a restored 19th century pavilion, rich in history, that has been transformed into an airy beachfront bar and dining area. Tucked away, on the beach, it is a superb romantic location. It has the feel of exclusivity but it’s not really that expensive when you take into consideration where you are and the quality of the service and faire you are receiving. What I like is that the menu is varied, allowing for all tastes and pallets. You sit in some of the most scenic surroundings in Hua Hin and if you want, the staff will arrange a romantic candlelit table down on the beach for you where you can let the sand run between your toes. It’s like Valentine’s night every night of the week. The night we were there we began our dining experience with two starters; the “Tapas Platter” which included Crab Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay, Grissini Beef and Chorizo Empanadas with all the proper sauces. The other starter was their “Cold Mezza Platter” which was servings of Hummus, Tabbouleh, Baba Ganosh and Fattoush all served with pita bread. A wide variety of tastes and textures that although filling only got our taste buds salivating in anticipation of our entrée’s. Our entrees arrived after an appropriate wait and looked as good as they tasted. I had the Jumbo prawns that were accompanied by a blend of sautéed onions, barley, sun dried tomatoes, olives and orange pesto. My guest had ordered her favorite, Grilled Lamb Chops which were accompanied by sautéed onions, sunflowers seeds and capsicums with a glazed rosella sauce. Shared bites proved that both entrees were well chosen and further proven by the empty plates that were collected when done. Being known as a man who never met a desert he didn’t like, I was very pleased with the choices we made. A light but immensely favorable Lime Sherbet and their Coconut Lemongrass Crème Brulee. Although both enjoyable the Crème Brulee was devoured the fastest with both of us noting the deliciousness of the sweet crunchy coconut chips on top. A recent poster to Trip Advisor said after dining at McFarland House, “It’s a really fantastic experience just waiting to happen” and I couldn’t agree more. SHERATON HUA HIN RESORT & PRANBURI VILLAS GOES DARK TO SHINE THE LIGHT ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Pranburi Villas goes dark to shine the light on climate change with Earth Hour 2016. The hotel will join millions around the world in turning off lights for one hour on March 19 at 8:30 p.m. local time to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness and action.
Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Pranburi Villas are participating by turn off exterior signage lighting, dim nonessential interior lighting, use candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars and in-room television messages to inform guests about Earth Hour observances.
The theme of the 2016 Earth Hour celebration focuses on climate change following a successful United Nation's COP21 conference in Paris. The annual global environmental awareness event was created and instituted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007 to emphasize the threat of global warming and the need to reduce carbon emissions.
“It’s a privilege for us to support such a powerful movement with such a simple gesture,” said Mr.Martin Raich, General Manager. “Earth Hour reflects a philosophy we try to practice year-round that we all must do our part and together we can make a big difference. Climate change affects everyone and it also has an impact on the continued success of our business.”
Last year, nearly 600 Starwood properties around the world participated. In addition to conserving energy, many properties hosted events and activities that engaged associates and guests. Some projects and programming included themed menus designed to highlight local and organic foods and Earth Hour inspired cocktails; special performances, tailored concerts, and displays of traditional entertainment; and distinctive campaigns devised to support individual community initiatives and conservation efforts. www.sheraton.com/huahin www.sheratohuahin.com facebook.com/sheratonhuahin

Bliss Restaurant
B
liss Bakery and Café House is exactly that, “Bliss.” If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place to go. They have their very own pastry chefs who work their magic daily, starting very early morning, to have their heavenly creations ready when they open at 9am.
One of their most popular bakery items for European’s is their devilishly delicious Sachertorte chocolate cake, pure “Bliss” for choco-holics. A relatively new item we devoured at our first visit was their Chocolate fruit cup, which was exactly that, a cup made of chocolate filled with fresh exotic fruit. Other Chocolate items included their chocolate mousse and their Chocolate éclair which I’m told is the number one bakery item chosen by Thai’s. Of course, they have a full range of non-chocolate desserts also. But, it’s not all about sweets. Bliss is a very popular dining restaurant for both lunch and dinner. Big hits at our table was their HH Bay Seafood Chowder and their Sea Bass Panang. The décor at Bliss is somewhat Colonial and the atmosphere is extremely relaxing. It is the type of place you could spend hours sipping coffee and catching up with friends. If you haven’t been there, do go, you will be pleased. Bliss is open from 9AM to 10pm and is located on Soi 82 off of Phetchakasem, just a little north of Villa Market. They have their own parking on the side of the building. Property Report Congress Thailand kicks off the top real estate networking event of the year
BANGKOK, Thailand – 29 March 2016 The Thailand Property Awards presented by Hansgrohe returns for a successful 11th edition to reward the finest developers and current developments in the country’s resilient real estate sector. The annual event was launched to the media on 29 March 2016 at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaphrasong Hotel. Building on the monumental success of last year’s 10th anniversary event, which saw SC Asset Corporation PLC claim the biggest award for Best Developer, the kingdom’s biggest and most respected industry awards programme will champion the leading industry players in Bangkok and Phuket, which continue to evolve alongside the secondary markets of Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, Khao Yai, Samui and the Eastern Seaboard. “The tourism sector is playing an increasingly important role in driving the country’s economic growth,” Suphin Mechuchep, managing director of JLL Thailand and newly elected chairperson of the central panel of judges, said. “A decent chunk of tourist spending goes to retailers in various retail formats from street-side retail strips to modern shopping centres,” she added. “Retail markets in key tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi, Koh
Samui, and Chiang Mai will benefit most from this trend.” This economic boost, as well the recently reported strong year-end finish to 2015 following the implementation of the government-led boosting measures and incentives, will be discussed by the industry's leading experts, developers and innovators at the high-level forum that takes place before the awards gala – the Property Report Congress Thailand. The whole day conference on Thursday, 22 September from 09:00 to 15:00, and will be held at the Plaza Athenee Bangkok, a Royal Meridien hotel, the official venue of the Thailand Property Awards. An internationally recognised celebration of the country’s real estate achievements, the Thailand Property Awards 2016 have already begun accepting nominations from developers and the general public starting in late February. The nomination period will close on 8 July, with the official shortlist revealed to the world in the third week of August. Entry is free. All successful entries will be supervised by BDO, one of the world’s largest accounting and auditing firms, and the trusted awards supervisor of the Asia Property Awards, which, in its 11th year, is widely recognised for its fairness and transparency. “We’re excited to be working with PropertyGuru Group as the Asia Property Awards programme continues to expand in ASEAN in its second decade,” said Terry Blackburn, founder and managing director of the Asia Property Awards. “In trying times like these, Thailand can always depend on exceptional projects that boost investor confidence and elevate market standards. We’re delighted to reward their hard work at the Thailand Property Awards.” Suphin will be joined on the esteemed
2016 judging panel, which is presided by Dr Manop Bongsadadt, renowned professor of architecture at Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University, by some of the best-known names in the industry. Aside from the central panel of judges, each region will have its own panel comprising local experts to ensure credibility of the Awards. A total of 31 trophies will be presented in 2016, with award categories covering the condominium, housing/villa, hotel, office, and retail segments. A special recognition for Thailand’s Real Estate Personality of Year, whose influence and achievements resonate across the kingdom, will be named by the editors of Property Report prior to the gala night. True Thailand Classic Presented by Chang
F
rom March 10th thru the 13th, Hua Hin’s Black Mountain Golf Club was ground zero for the best golf in the kingdom when it recently hosted Thailand’s largest professional sports event, with the highest cash prize, the “True Thailand Classic 2016 Presented by Chang”. Thailand’s True Corporation and ThaiBev, brewers of Chang Beer invested more than Bt180 million to host the tri-

sanctioned event which included the European tour, Asian tour and Thailand PGA. The tournament attracted professional golfers from around the world for the opportunity to win the US$1.75 million in prize money and to win a spot to the “Race to Dubai” – paving the way to Europe’s number one golfer. The tournament was a cooperation between public and private sectors which
included True Corporation, Chang Beverages, Sports Authority of Thailand, Black Mountain Golf Club, Charoen Pokphand Group, Bangkok Bank Plc, Toyota Motor Thailand, and Thai Airways International. The cooperation boosted the competition and provided an opportunity for 16 Thai golfers who have already won the Chang-SAT Thailand PGA Tour 2016 to attend the international professional-level
competition. The Thai golfers were also given a chance to enroll in “Just Believe in Your Dreams” by CP, with one special ticket to join the competition to win a Wild Card. Thai youth golfers were also given an opportunity to join the Pro-Am, AM-AM, and Golf Clinic activities. The first day was humid, hot and marked by high winds. To everyone’s surprise, local prodigy Kiradech Aphibarnrat was one of those who found the conditions the hardest on the first day. Having returned straight from the Cadillac Championship in Miami, he ended the day with a disappointing four bogies in a row and ended the tournament solely one position from the prize money behind fellow compatriot Somsak, Kaopratum, who ended in 72nd place. Spaniard Miguel Ángel Jimenez found it hard too, with double bogies and bogies making most of his highlight, as he found the back nine uneasy to cope with. Jimenez would not improve much from then on and could only manage a
disappointing 106th finish in total. One who began with flying colours however was Pelle Edberg, who had nine birdies in nine holes around the turn and finished second on the day behind Peter Uilhen, after a class performance from the American that stood him firmly at eight under par. Neither Aphibarnrat nor Jimenez thus made the cut on the second day despite some good efforts from both players. Compatriot, and highest ranked Thai, Thongchai Jaidee hit one of the most notable shots of day two on the fifteenth hole, an impressive lobbed shot that set up an easy birdie for the local favourite. Peter Uilhen was unable to reproduce his fantastic form of day one, though there were a few good shots from him, particularly one on the 17th that led him to a par 4. Thailand’s Panuphol Pittayarat did not drop a shot during the entire day and secured a brilliant birdie in the ninth hole, leaving him at eleven under par in
third place. But the name that began to emerge was that of Scott Hend, playing with a birdie, an eagle and capitalised with four more birdies including a fantastic little chip on the 18th. A sign of things to come? Hend shared the lead with Sweden’s Edberg, who with a triple birdie consolidated himself at twelve under par. Day three presented even hotter weather than the first two sessions and truly put the competitors under challenge. Jaidee began marvellously with an eagle, and though dropping the pace a little, he managed to finish with a birdie that put him six points from the lead. Edberg continued with a strong performance, finishing at eleven under on the day. American Ulhein on the other hand ended with four birdies on the day, finishing at twelve under par while Hend made a race through the gears and ended with an impressive performance putting himself at fourteen under going into the fourth and final day.

Day four was make or break, and those who broke off the pace were Ulhein and Jaidee, who despite good efforts dropped points in key holes. The man who drove through the thick was undoubtedly Australia’s Hend, who with a fantastic performance and an impressive birdie putt from the fringe of the 14th walked away with this year’s big check. Pelle Edberg from Sweden finished at 13 under, a shot below Joost Luiten and two ahead of Benjamin Hebert, Jeev Milkha Singh and local home boy Simon Yates. Harald Ellison, Managing Director of Black Mountain Golf Club had this to say about this year’s tournament, “This year's True Thailand Classic was a great 4 days of tournament golf. It was a pleasure and an honour to be host to such a field of internationally acclaimed and talented competitors. We were very pleased to see so many spectators come to Black Mountain to watch the action here, and it was very rewarding to receive so many compliments from both players and visitors alike”. Harald went on to say, “We are always proud to have the opportunity to showcase to the world not only Black Mountain, but also Hua Hin, and what a great golfing destination Thailand has become. Since the tournament and as always, we are keeping the course in top condition, for everyone to come and share the Black Mountain experience. We look forward to seeing you here soon.”

The 14th Annual King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament
O
ne of Thailand’s most anticipated events, the Anantara King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament took place from March 10th thru the 14th in Bangkok. Originally held at the royal seaside resort town of Hua Hin, the tournament moved to Bangkok in 2014. This year’s pitch was purposely built for the tournament along the Chao Phraya river, very near the Anantara’s famous Riverside Resort.

April 15 - May 15 , 2016
Ten teams were entered with players coming from around the world, including Miss Thailand, the New Zealand All Blacks rugby players and professional polo players who all created many memorable on (and off) pitch moments. The Anantara itself fielded two teams, the Anantara Arabian Knights from the UAE and the Anantara Hotels, Resorts, Spa a team which included Manish Jha, the General Manager of their Hua Hin resort.
Twenty ex-street elephants participated in this year’s tournament, during which time they received full veterinary checks from the Zoo-logical Parks Organisation of Thailand (under the patronage of HM the King of Thailand) and the Department of Livestock Development. In addition, all elephants were given essential vitamins, food and care which are not available to them during their normal daily lives.
The tournament began early the morning of the tenth with a traditional ceremony overseen by monks who placed sacred garlands over the necks of the stars of the event, the 20 street elephants, and then blessed them with a trickle of sacred water. Thailand’s last elephant spirit men the Kruba Yai, who possess spiritual guardianship over all elephants in the Kingdom, also presided over the rituals and assured polo players and spectators alike that the tournament
would indeed be a resounding success. The opening match saw reigning champions King Power easily beat host team Anantara with a resounding 10 – 6 win, but the match of the day was between Citibank and PWC’s mighty New Zealand All Blacks rugby players Robin Brooke, Olo Brown and Charlie Reichelmann. There was impressive play on both sides, with the All Blacks kicking off
the game with an early goal. Citi came back strong with solid teamwork and long passes up the field ensuring a flurry of goals, resulting in a six-all draw at half time. The experienced polo players Robert Mullis and Oliver Winter continued to showcase their domination on the pitch resulting in the final score of 11 – 6, with Citi beating the mighty PWC All Blacks.

Day two’s match of the day was between Audemars Piguet and the all lady team Casillero Del Diablo (CDD) featuring former Miss Thailand Areeya Sirisopa. Audemars Piguet’s professional horse polo players the Kalaan brothers, Uday and Angad showed their world champion skills matched with Cameron Humphries stellar defense early in the match scoring the first seven goals of the game. Audemars Piguet’s strength early in the match continued into the second chukka and proved to be too strong for the CDD ladies with the final score of 10 – 6. The big winners however were the 1,000 local school children that attended that day. Known as Chang Noi Day (Little Elephant Day), children from local schools all over Bangkok were invited to get up close with the elephants and learn more about their national animal. A range of educational walks, games and activities all teaching the benefits of elephant conservation and well-being were put on by the organizers. Day three of the 14th King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament adopted a slightly more stylish approach to the competition as the ladies off field dressed to the nines for Ladies Day, also known as ‘Bangkok’s Ascot’.

April 15 - May 15 , 2016
The competition on the pitch was as fierce as ever with all 10 teams vying for a place in the semi-finals. King Power, Audemars Piguet, the Arabian Knights each won their matches and Johnnie Walker Blue Label versus Mekhong drew in their match together but it was the exhibition shoot off between the New Zealand All Blacks rugby legends Olo Brown, Robin Brooke and Charlie Riechelmann and the Miss Tiffany transgender team that drew the largest crowds. The All Black’s showed their sporting prowess by winning 2 – 0. Although the Miss Tiffany ladies were not successful on the pitch, offside ‘Ladies Day’ saw a plethora of women who came dressed to impress in the hope of winning the grand prize of a trip to Paris which was awarded to the best dressed lady of the day. The day was attended by well-known celebrities such as Miss Thailand Areeya Sirisopa, Asia’s Next Top Model Host Cindy Bishop and socialist Joy Sopitpongsathorn.

On Sunday March 13th, the highly anticipated final was presided over by the King of Thailand’s Royal representative, H.E. Privy Councilor, Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk. The final match placed two stellar teams – Rueang Chang against King Power Duty Free – in a closely fought battle for the 14th King’s Cup Elephant 58

Polo trophy. Rueang Chang captained by Ed Story along with Taweesak Keereekaew and Prakorn Saejaw and King Power captained by Tom Claytor with Nattapong Pratumlee and Satid Wongkraso went head to head in a thrilling final. The first half was dominated by Rueang Chang but no goals were scored.
Things heated up in the second chukka with King Power battling to regain their King’s Cup crown. Rueang Chang had looked good early on but in the second half King Power showed their prowess and their professional polo experience with Tom Claytor and Nattanpong Pratumlee scoring all the goals in the second half.
With only one minute to go the game was 8-7 with King Power Captain Tom Claytor scoring the winning goal in the dying moments of the match, resulting in a final score of 9-7. The tournament was introduced to Thailand in 2001 by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas and has grown to become one of the biggest charitable events in the
Kingdom, raising funds for projects that better the lives of Thailand’s elephant population. THB15 million has been raised this year taking the total raised to date to an impressive THB 47 million (US$1,300,000) The money raised from the 2016 tournament will be donated to a variety of elephant related pro-jects including
funding a new mobile clinic in Mae Teang, Chiang Mai Province which has the largest concentration of trekking camps in Thailand. Funds will also be donated to the Zoological Parks Organisation of Thailand to support projects to improve the year round lives of the 200 elephants and mahouts in Ban Ta Klang, in Surin Province where the exstreet elephants face on-going hardship.

A THB 500,000 gantry to help lame elephants stand, donated to the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre (TECC); 4,000 trees planted in Hua Hin for elephant corridors to stop farmer/elephant conflicts; funding a conservation curriculum for schools to teach children the importance of conservation and protection of wild elephants in Thailand and funding Asia’s first workshop to show traditional elephant trainers and camp owners the benefits of Positive Reinforcement Training for captive elephants.

L et’s Go, Kho Phi Phi
A
t times, all one wants to do, is to relax in the sun, surrounded by the luxury of a picture perfect and marvellous white sandy beach. If this is done in the middle of an island of lush greenery and crystalline blue waters, then all the better. This month, HOT Magazine has the pleasure to review one of Thailand’s most fantastic sites: the paradisiac islands of Koh Phi Phi.
64
April 15 - May 15 , 2016
As always though, we begin with some history. Legend has it, that this island may have derived its name from Krabi, meaning “sword”. It is said that an antique sword was found and removed from the deep of its soil before the town came to be formally founded. The name itself does not have its origin in the Thai language, but in Malay: its original name was Pulau Api-Api, which translates to “The Fiery Isle”. This references the
Pokok Api-Api, meaning “Fiery Tree” in English, due to the many grey mangrove trees that are found throughout the entire island. It has been deduced through the discovery of archaeological remnants, that Koh Phi Phi was one of Thailand’s oldest communities and that it is so old in fact, that it is said to date back to times of prehistory, over twenty-two centuries ago. Today, we have just hints of what the Island’s ancestors left us with, for
instance the art of batik painting which is still today practiced by the locals. In addition, there is a large availability of Krabi handicrafts, such as the very rustic pineapple paper. Koh Phi Phi is 38 Km southwest of Krabi, off of Thailand’s Andaman Coast, The Phi Phi islands are some of the most visually stunning in Southeast Asia and are accessible via a mere forty-fiveminute speedboat trip or a ninety-minute
ferryboat ride from either Phuket or Krabi. This means that one can, in less than an hour, be in Thailand’s ultimate tropical getaway to indulge in all its classic white sandy beaches, incredible rock formations and translucent turquoise waters.
clown fish, as well as moray eels and large majestic tortoises. On land we find the iconic macaque, a cute friendly monkey found in many other parts of Thailand too. We find equally interesting reptiles of different species, from sea to land snakes and monitor lizards.
Koh Phi Phi possesses a great range of wildlife with all colours of the visual spectrum. In the water there are varieties from the mighty lionfish to the famous
Koh Phi Phi’s marine wildlife, along with its crystal clear waters, makes it a very popular site for scuba divers and snorkelers alike. The most popular beach

for this purpose is Yao Beach. This stretch of sand is south of Ton Sai and provides all of the visitors there some spectacular sights of fantastic coral reefs. Naturally, it is easy to deduce because of its unique natural beauty that Yao Beach receives the greatest quantity of visitors at once, thus if you prefer a quieter holiday spot, you can venture to somewhere like Hin Tao. Hin Tao is a much quieter beach that can solely be accessed by foot. The short journey on foot makes it a remarkable little adventure and once the beach has been reached, its splendour will not disappoint. Phi Phi is actually a group of six islands. The two main islands are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. The bigger and inhabited Phi Phi Don attracts the most visitors to stay in the beautiful shores while the smaller uninhabited Phi Phi Leh has stunning bays and beaches, including the world-famous Maya Bay, which was where the movie “The Beach” starring 2016 Oscar winner Leonardo Dicaprio, was filmed. It was after the release of the movie that the islands
came to have real notable worldwide prominence. All of Koh Phi Phi’s natural beauty is protected by national park status, which means that any infractions or damages to the environment, theft or activity that compromises the environmental integrity of the island is severely punished by law as a serious crime. It is these strict laws however that have made Koh Phi Phi one of Thailand’s most popular destinations for scuba diving and snorkelling. One of the “musts” on Phi Phi Don is to check out the viewpoint. It is a ten to twenty-five-minute walk around 186m above sea level which takes you to a spot where one can enjoy the jaw dropping view of the island in all its entirety. If this walk is too much for your fitness regime, you can also enjoy a similar perspective of the island at the Banana Bar, where you can enjoy some scrumptious snacks and an exotic cocktail while soaking in the magnificence of the view. Other activities on this larger island include a visit to Monkey Beach, where one can try to make friends with its cute little
inhabitants but with care since they can get a little aggressive at times While on the island be sure to take in one of the highly skilled and entertaining fire shows held at night in distinct venues such as Carlito’s, Apache Bar, and Carpe Diem. For quieter moments you can visit the Tsunami Memorial Garden, a peaceful place for some meditation and paying respect to all the victims of the tragedy. Ko Phi-Phi is known to be heaven on earth. A place made to encounter peace of mind, and which will with its energy cleanse both body and soul. The island’s stunning looks, crystal clear water, and white sandy beaches attract tourists from all over the world and make it one of the top ten places to visit in the South East Asia region. Although many people visit just for the day, booking accommodations on the island for a several day stay is highly recommended.

The MB Café and Restaurant is located at the beginning of Viphavadhi Rangsit Rd in Bangkok and serves absolutely delicious foods and beverages. It’s not only a great place to dine but also a wonderful venue for private parties and weddings. On the night we were there we started with a delicious appetizer, that being their green apple and tuna salad. It was the perfect combination of tastes between the somewhat tart fresh fruit and the fish all of which were drizzled with a traditional flavor of Thai salad dressing. Our starter was followed by a dish we were told was a “must,” the Somtam ton orn Tanta Wan with grilled king size river prawn. Traditional Somtam is made with papaya but this is made with sunflower sprouts. “Ton orn Tanta wan” means sunflower sprouts. This is a signature dish at MB Café and one that is famous for not only its taste but also for being so nutritious. Next up with was their Fried Sundried Pork with herbs. We were told the processes to make this dish is to marinate the sun-dried pork with coriander root, black pepper, garlic, and multiple herbs before deep frying with kaffir lime leaves and mushrooms at a very high heat for only 4-5 minutes. By cooking this way, it allows the dish to be crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. As we were eating traditional Thai it only made sense to end our dinner with the classic Thai desert, sweet mango with sticky rice. The serving was plentiful and appropriately drizzled with sweet creamy coconut syrup. The MB Café serves authentic Thai food in a nice setting with friendly service. Well worth a visit next time you’re in the city. MB Café and Restaurant 0924142455. 026253669

7 Tips For A Great Tan
F
rom a non-Thai perspective, people tend to look great when they have a bit of a tan—it adds a warm glow to the skin, masks blemishes, and helps make colorful clothes stand out. It can be tricky business, getting the right tan— there are UV rays to worry about, awkward orange colors to avoid (think Donald Trump), and tan lines to consider. With a little knowledge and forethought, you can overcome any obstacles, and get that tan you're looking for—and we'll show you how. Follow these simple steps and get that golden glow in short order!
1
Hydrate your skin. Skin that's well hydrated will tan better than dusty, dry skin. To prepare your skin to tan well, do the following: In the shower, exfoliate dry, dead epidermal cells by scrubbing gently with a rough cloth, loofah, or exfoliating soap. Moisturize your skin with a lotion containing sodium PCA. It's a naturallyoccurring component of human skin that helps maintain a healthy epidermis, and works by attracting moisture from the air. Apply the right level of sunscreen for your skin. If you have light skin, use a lotion with a higher SPF rating than if you have darker skin. No matter what your skin type or how much base you
72
April 15 - May 15 , 2016
have built up, always use a sunscreen with at least an SPF rating of 15. If you are going to be in the water, make sure your sunscreen is waterproof, or re-apply when you're out of the water. Otherwise, re-apply sunscreen as directed on the label— usually every couple hours.
2
Wear sunscreen when you tan! If you are just going to sit on the beach and tan for an hour put SPF 4-15 on, depending on how fair your complexion is and how much base you've already built up. If you don't use sunscreen while tanning, UVA and UVB rays can still harm your skin, even if you don't get burned! Use lip balm with sunscreen as well. Ideally, apply your sunscreen in the shade, and let it soak in for 20-25 minutes before you go into the sun. Reapply as needed if you go swimming and the sunscreen is not waterproof, or every couple hours as directed on the label. If you notice redness developing on your skin, get out of the light—you're already burned, and continuing to bake will only deepen the burn and increase your risk of serious damage.
3
(Un)dress for success. Unless you want a patchwork quilt of tan lines, wear the swimsuit you will wear when you are swimming! Wearing the same swimsuit will give you a smooth, buttery tan that flows from skin to bathing suit. Skip the swimsuit altogether if you can. The only thing better than minimal tan lines is no tan lines at all!
underarms.Or spend one day on your backside and one day on your frontside If you don't want to lie around all day, but still want that tan, another alternative is to go for a jog, or even a walk. This not only increases your sun exposure and increases your tan but helps give you a slim, toned body at the same time. Yummy!
5
Protect your eyes. They can be burned, too. For tanning, though, it's better to either wear a hat or just keep your eyes closed rather than wear sunglasses. Bright light on your optic nerve stimulates the hypothalamus gland, which in turn causes the production of melanin, thus achieving a deeper tan.
6
Hydrate! Make sure you drink plenty of water. Jump in the pool to cool yourself down now and then, too. Don't worry, this will not harm your tanning in the least. Don't forget to re-apply your sun screen afterwards.
7
After you tan, moisturize. Use an aloe-based skin lotion to sooth and moisturize your skin. It will help keep your skin healthy and will prevent it from becoming flaky and dry from the sun. As with all things, tan in moderation—great looking skin can end up looking like leather if you stay in the "oven" too long. Article courtesy of wikiHow, building the world's largest, highest quality howto manual.
4
Move while you tan. Think "rotisserie chicken." To get that great, all-over browning, you have to keep on the move. Front, back, sides, and places where the sun doesn't normally shine—like

rehistory is one of the most fascinating concepts that humanity has ever laid its interest on. Perhaps because it is so remote and inaccessible. Perhaps because of the staggering differences between that which drew life back in the day in comparison to the mundane world of the twenty first century. Or perhaps it is a combination of both. Scientists and artists have always made an effort to vividly expose the prehistory in all its might, with its environment, conditions and life forms. The latter is what has
drawn the inspiration of Dinosaur Planet, a theme park opened in the heart of Bangkok, designed to provide the liveliest experience possible to the visitor. Dinosaur Park is imposing from the very commencement of the adventure through it. One arrives to find a towering triplet of conical reproductions of granite-like rocks in suspension over the entrance. In the largest and central one of them, lies written the name of the park, with the menacing exoskeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex breaking through the “O”.
Upon entering you can find a number of great towering figures that catch the eye. From Triceratops’, to Diplodocus’ to the mythicized Velociraptors and iconic Tyrannosaurus’. The former is the centre of a marvellous activity, the Raptor X-Treme: Consisting of a mission in which one has to escape the wrath of Velociraptor robots, this game can signify a great adrenaline injection if one immerses themselves in the situation and acknowledges what it may have been to suffer the pursuit of such mighty and quick creatures.

We mentioned robots because almost all the figures are so, from the greatest to the smallest, all bear a semi-movable component that bring them to life: be it through movable jaws or through leaning necks, reaching paws or wagging tails, the dinosaur models are obviously not real, but they’re a very shy step away from what one could consider alive. The next attraction that catches the visitor’s eye in a greater sense of the word, is the Dino Eye: A great Ferris wheel in which the public can elevate themselves to look at prehistory from the perspective of the mighty Pterodactyl, up and above the Bangkok skyline, with a fantastic view of not only the park in and of itself, but the entire surrounding area, the Dino Eye’s crystal capsule give the visitor a true treat. If one has children, the Dino Farm remains the place to go to make them ride the sizeable attractions in the area, something calm that they are sure to enjoy. If you’re more fascinated by prehistoric history however, be sure to venture to the Dinosaur District, in which the knowledge never ceases and in which one has the opportunity to learn of all the different species through interactive media and skeleton observation. Dinosaur Planet truly is one of the more entertaining spots one can venture to on a weekend, alone, with a partner or with the entire family. Want to travel back a hundred and fifty million years? Just hop on the BTS to Phrom Pong. What are you waiting for?
