n Thursday evening, the Law offices of George Castrataro hosted a Kick Off Party for Ken Keechl (running for a seat in the state house) at Cafe Vico. Afterwards, we headed over to the Stonewall National Museum Wilton Manors which featured an event for the community to learn about Luminary Couples, an organization created to honor and celebrate long-term same sex couples in South Florida. The event featured wine, soda, light refreshments and information to learn more about becoming part of this great network of LGBT couples. On Friday, we started the night at Mod Wine Lounge who presented a Smart Ride benefit (there was another Smart Ride benefit on Sunday at Wilton Lanes) and then we took a trip down to Floppy Roosters to see all their sexy men dancing on stage. On Saturday, Joe Whitaker presented “Bulge” by Man UPP where they invited everyone to be proud and show it off at Hunters from 8pm to 3am. This wass an underwear jock party with a clothes check available and featured the music of DJ Max Bruce of Los Angeles. On Sunday, the South Florida Amateur Athletics Association (SFAA) featured their Opening Day games for the season at Mills Pond Park. Afterwards we went to the beach as the Lambda Men's Brotherhood presented an LMB Pool party Fundraiser at the Windamar Beach Resort, which was clothing optional and featured the sounds of DJ John B. Later that night we headed to the Ramrod who celebrated their 22nd anniversary with a balloon drop at midnight and the much anticipated giving out of the free anniversary pins. As usual the anniversary was busy, as everyone wanted to party with Zak and Steve.

Keep Calm and Wear Lederhosen! Following on the success of last year's Octoberfest event, The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is proud to present the Second Annual Oktoberfest at the garden's home in SoBe. On Friday, September 23, they are throwing a party featuring some of South Florida's best local brewers. The organizers will create a BEER GARDEN on Miami Beach with live polka music, incredible food, lawn games, communal tables and BEER! This year marks the 206th anniversary of Octoberfest in Munich, Germany. The original festival was held there in honor of the Crown Prince's marriage in 1810. Since that time, Octoberfest has become an international festival for the area and draws millions of visitors from around the world. For the 200th anniversary in 2010, a horse race in historical costumes was held on opening day. A so-called historische Wiesn (historical Oktoberfest) took place, starting one day earlier than usual. A specially brewed beer (solely available at the tents of the historical Oktoberfest), horse races, and a museum tent gave visitors an impression of how the event felt a century ago. These days, the party has grown so large that the millions of

party goers drink nearly 7 million liters of beer (almost 2 million gallons) throughout the 16-18 day festival. This year's event at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden will feature their very own beer garden in the beautiful oasis they call home. The event will feature traditional German foods like sausages, bratwurst, sauerkraut, Bavarian pretzels, pies, and typical American treats like chicken wings, BBQ. Nestor Zarita and the International Polka Band will provide live music which will surely make even the most reluctant party goer get up and dance the Polka. There will also be lawn games like badminton on the Garden's Great Lawn. Tickets at the door will be $55 however; you can save a bit and buy them in advance for $45. This event is open to those who are 21 and over. Tickets include unlimited beer and food and proceeds beneďŹ t the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Parking will be available at the corner of 17th St and Convention Center Drive for $1 per hour. For more information or to purchase tickets visit MBGarden.org

The 5 Elements Spa and Longevity Center 2288 Wilton Drive Wilton Manors, FL 33305 954-533-2604 • the5elementsspa.com

T

The 5 Elements Spa & Longevity Center is the first and only longevity center in Fort Lauderdale. Their concept is to add life to your years and years to your life in an establishment far from the ordinary. The place itself stimulates all of your senses and brings you to a state of peace. It's about taking care of your body both inside and out, and if you're taking care of your mind and spirit, and if you realize that all of these things are connected, that's where longevity comes from. To achieve this, they offer meditation sessions by a Chopra Certified Instructor, Yoga Nidhra classes, life coaching and nutrition sessions, along with MD procedures by a plastic surgeon, all in one place! The Center makes this accessible to anyone by offering a membership program which includes your choice of treatments each month, access to their facilities (even if you are not having a service) and specials on any other service at member prices. The membership is

$75 per month. For this type of location, this is a great deal. The spa wanted Hotspots to experience 2 of their most popular services so I brought Oscar with me and we split the procedures. I had the Raindrop Aromatherapy ($150 – 80 mins). I was introduced to Ong, and he is a very calming soul. He escorted me into the room which is quite Zen, and explained what was going to happen (Ong also specializes in Thai Massage). This was definitely the most unique massage I've ever had. The procedure harnesses the power of essential oils as they fall like raindrops along your spine. By encouraging the release of habitual holding patterns and energetic blockages, Ong blended massage, reflexology and stretching techniques to bring me to a state of inner harmony and balance. My two favorites of this treatment were the way Ong had me breath in the oils before they fell like raindrops on me, and after he finished putting the last oil on and rubbed it in, he put a hot towel on my spine area. This felt so good and was incredibly relaxing, I felt the effects even hours after the treatment. Oscar was getting a facial and Will, the

The Grand Resort and Spa 539 N. Birch Road • Fort Lauderdale 954-630-3692 • grandresort.net aesthetician, after consulting with Oscar decided he needed the “Put Up a Good Front” Facial ($130). This is a 75 minute skin treatment that targets congestion and controls oil and shine in the skin. After his service, you can visibly see the difference in Oscar's skin. This treatment not only gives a glow to the skin that shows healthy skin but also helps greatly reduce congestion. Prior to our spa services and after changing into our comfy spa robes and sandals, we enjoyed a session in the Eucalyptus Steam and Dry Heat Sauna. The combination of both felt so relaxing. From there, we showered and were escorted to the Serenity Spa Lounge prior to heading to the Spa Treatment Suite. The Spa Lounge is such a peaceful area that can be enjoyed prior or after a service. Here you can enjoy some light snacks, lemon and cucumber infused water or a cup of hot tea.

I

I have been to the Grand Spa so many times I thought it would be fair to send a co-worker to experience the spa, so I sent Robert, our newest account rep. When he walked in to the spa he was told that their Mantra is “every treatment is customized for each guest.” They do a detailed consultation, analyze skin and customize a unique solution for each client. The First Treatment that Robert received was the Anti-Aging Facial (50 minutes - $110) and was administered by Paula (for those of you who have been reading the spa issue for the past several years, you know Paula is my wife, so it was not easy for me to let her work on someone else). This custom facial consisted of a pre-cleanse, an ultra-cleansing cleaner, a daily microfoliant (rice, tea, and grapefruit) which he mentioned smelled delicious, a scaling fluid - designed to ease extraction work, an oatmeal masque to reduce redness and swelling, an ultra-calming toner, and lastly a moisturizer for sensitive skin. After chatting with Robert, he said “Paula was such an amazing professional. I'm not used to treating myself to spa treatments, but she made me feel so comfortable and right at home. I think I may have even fallen asleep for a bit. Or was I just dreaming the whole time? It was amazing!” The second procedure Robert had was the Jack Black Signature Scrub (50 min, $110) and was administered by owner JD himself. The treatment starts and ends with Jack Black

products. You're first cleansed then exfoliated with a glacier salt and oil mixture to polish the skin and reveal the best skin possible. Your treatment ends with a rich Jack Black moisturizer. Robert admittedly was pretty nervous about this treatment as he never had a professional massage before, but J.D. made him feel very at ease. They have a special "wet" room for this treatment that includes a special draining table. J.D. says a lot of the tourists worry that the treatment will strip their hardearned vacation tans away. It actually just strips away the dull layer of skin so you can really show off your tan. J.D. commented that the treatment is like a mother washing her baby and most people haven't been washed and scrubbed since they were a baby. Robert said “My skin was baby soft afterwards. Even after showering twice my skin still smells amazing from the Jack Black products.” The Grand Resort doesn't sell day passes but spa guests can enjoy the facilities along with their treatments. Who wouldn't want to take a dip in the resort pool or hot tub to show off their glowing skin? JD also wanted to remind the community that the Spa offers great mid-week specials on Tues, Wed and Thurs, which change every week so call them to find out.

Upon entering the spa with my co-worker Andrew, we were welcomed by owner John, Skin Care Specialist Phillip Daigneault and Massage Therapist German Infante. We were given a full tour of the spa which is much larger than it looks from the outside. Phillip walked me back to his aesthetician room for my Deep Cleansing Facial with Microdermabrasion (60 Minutes - $105), which is an anti-aging facial. Phillip is a Paramedical Aesthetician, which means he can do everything but cut the skin. Once on the table Phillip started with a face cleaning followed by papaya enzyme from Elemis. While the enzyme was setting, Phillip administered an arm and hand massage. After removing the enzyme, he performed the Diamond Peel (Microdermabrasion) on me. He followed this with extractions, and then the high frequency tool to kill any bacteria. This was followed by a Cucumber Mask from Phillip Thomas Roth. While the mask was setting, Phillip massaged my shoulders and neck. After removing the mask, he applied a cucumber cleansing lotion/astringent, followed by a moisturizer followed finally by a facial spray/ Herbal Spritz. You see the effects from the procedure immediately, but it takes a few days to see the full effect. Andrew was given the full body massage by German Infante. He said “German brought me back to a midsized room that had soothing sounds of water falling and scents of fresh

lavender. I could see various degrees that German had hanging on the wall. He has a degree from Florida College of Natural Health in Therapeutic Massage, and two degrees in Reiki therapy. He asked me what level of massage I was looking for and I said somewhere in the mid deep range. He said an “Integrative Massage” (60 minutes - $85) would be the best.” The 78º Integrative Massage is a combination of many different techniques and modalities including Swedish, deeptissue, relaxation, stretching and subtle energy-balancing among others, that make this a relaxing and nourishing treatment and also enhancing your well-being and heightening your body awareness. Andrew said “This full body massage is designed for the individual client, so he asked me where I was tight and/or had any problem areas. The areas that were the tightest, he said he would go a little deeper. He customized my therapy to involve both deep tissue and Swedish massage techniques. He took his time and was extremely professional. He used Lavender oil on me, after he asked if I would prefer the oil or lotion. With each touch of his hands I became more and more relaxed. By the time he was done, my pain and tightness were completely gone and I was in a state of pure bliss. My stress was significantly reduced and I left feeling like I just had experienced an hour of total indulgence.”

78 Degrees also offers haircuts and Men's grooming from Barber Pete and is open Tuesday thru Friday from 10 am to 8 pm; Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm and by appointment on Sundays and Mondays.

When I arrived at Lavish Manors, I was greeted by manager, Danny Doan, who was very welcoming. I was then introduced to John who performed my Hot Stone Paraffin Spa Pedicure ($55). As soon as I sat in the incredibly comfortable massage chair John offered me wine or water to drink. My feet were then soaked in a Jacuzzi tub, and shortly after my nails were trimmed, shaped, cuticles groomed, including an intensive callus treatment, and a salt scrub. My legs were then pampered with a warm herbal wrap to soften and plump the skin, then came exfoliation with a sloughing

scrub, and softening sea butter. I then basked in luxury as they performed a long lasting relaxing massage using warm stones and hemp oil distinctively scented with patchouli. The pedicure ended with a refreshing and smoothing paraffin treatment and a wrapping with aromatic hot towels and then my nails were buffed (Polish is available, but I passed….LOL). I then had a classic manicure ($15). This relaxing manicure includes nail trimming, shaping, cuticles detailing, lotion massage and buffing (again Polish is available). I left Lavish Manors feeling wonderful and I couldn't stop looking at how nice my nails looked.

Like most of you, I heard that W Fort Lauderdale was under a major renovation and was wondering what the re-located spa would look like. I was pleasantly surprised when I was escorted up to the 23rd floor into the gigantic suite the bliss Spa now occupies. I was greeted by the smiling face of Nicki Prior, bliss Spa Fort Lauderdale's Retail Manager. While chatting with Nicki I couldn't help but notice the view, which is nothing less than spectacular. They can now offer massages outside on the wrap around terrace. In addition, they can now offer couples massages, which I was told are very popular. I was then introduced to Harvey, who was going to be my Masseuse for the ginger rub massage (105 mins - full-body + wrap -$225). This massage, which is one of the bliss

legends, features a brisk rub of freshly grated, circulation stimulating ginger root and warm detoxifying essential oils. I can't tell you how amazing and pampered I felt as Harvey, who has been at bliss for 7 years, treated each part of my body with this soothing scrub and oils. After he is done with the entire body, he then wraps you in a cozy warming foil and tops you off with a blanket to make you feel very warm and snuggly. He then put a cucumber mask on my eyes and while the foil was doing its job I received a wonderful head and shoulder massage. When it was time, I was unwrapped and given a full body massage to get to the 'root' of my tension. In all the years I have been going to spas, I had never had a wrap before, but I highly recommend it. Part of the reason it

was so good for me was because of Harvey. He has such a calming energy and a great touch, my body and mind were fully relaxed. Next, I was introduced to Adriana, my aesthetician for –the fully loaded facial (90 min $215). This over-the-top treatment includes the whole 'skin'-chilada. The procedure starts with a deep cleansing, followed by an enzyme wash, (she added in Microdermabrasion to fix a few problems in my skin, which normally doesn't come with this procedure), then comes the oxygen wrap. After the wrap, it's time for extractions, which are followed by an age-fighting plumping collagen serum. After the serum it's time for a skin-type-specific rubberizing mask, and while the mask is doing its job she provided a head, neck, shoulder, arm and foot massage. This is followed by a hair dew treatment, which makes your scalp and hair feel amazing. The procedure ended with a moisturizer and eye cream (and she showed me the proper way to put on eye cream to keep the eyes moisturized and not dry) and an O2 blast. The oxygen blast feels incredible and helps seal in the procedure. If you want to experience the bliss Spa (and why wouldn't you?) now is the perfect time as they are featuring “bliss-tember specials” for $99. You can choose between a blissage 75, extreme sports massage, triple oxygen facial, or a shell manicure and pedicure with paraffin add on. Any of these services come with a complimentar y glass of bubbly and complimentary valet parking. A few other specials they offer are: during your birthday month you get 15% off all procedures (and you get a bliss Cupcake), and currently they are featuring $10 off every $100 you spend.

Unfortunately I was not able to get over to David Douglas Spa for this issue, because they were busy opening their second location in Wilton Manors, which just opened its doors at press time. Their full service spa in Wilton Station offers massage, acupuncture, dermalogica facials and skin care treatments, waxing and grooming services. Their mini spa at the new Metropolitan offers the same services to their residents and is open to the public by appointment.

The owner, Brian David Coone, was a massage therapist for a NC hospital for over six years. Prior to his hospital work, he was the trainer and lead massage therapist for a chain of eight day spas located throughout North and South Carolina. He uses this expertise to hire some of the best massage therapists and estheticians in the area! So, who is David Douglas? It is actually a combination of Brian's father and best friends' names.

Spa Cabanas 2209 NE 26th St. • Wilton Manors 954-565-2307 • thecabanasguesthouse.com

T

The Spa Cabanas just recently celebrated their eighth anniversary. Their services and treatments are designed to focus on your individual requests, as well as rejuvenation and well-being. The owner of the spa is Norman Lachance, who is also the lead aesthetician at the spa. Norman made the choice to go to Pavonia and Decleor from Paris for skincare, and he also pursued studies (earning a certification) from Dr. Babor of Germany. When I arrived at the spa for my treatments, I was greeted by Norman, and the spa manager, Clint. Both of these gentlemen are wonderful people and as I say every year, I love seeing them. I was then introduced to Mario Martinez, who was going to perform my Bamboo Massage (80 Min - $145), which is a combination of hands and bamboo therapy. He starts with a Shiatsu technique, and he does this to palpitate the muscle to see what part of the body needs more attention. He

then applies a gel with a Swedish technique. Next he begins to use the warm large bamboo, separating the body in left and right sections and the movement will be around the body clockwise. The smaller pieces of bamboo are used where the body needs more attention. The bamboo is used to improve circulation in the lymphatic system, the muscular system and nervous system. The goal is for relaxation but to also work the muscle as in a deep tissue massage. After the Bamboo Massage was done I was introduced to Donte, who is very young, but very knowledgeable in Skin care and nails and he performed my Spa Pedicure (45 Min - $35). The procedure starts out with a foot bath with exfoliation to soften up the rough areas of the feet. Afterwards my cuticles were shaped and rough areas removed and then the nails are cut and filed. Buff and shine are done on the nails and then hot towels are applied with a massage. Donte may be young, but he was lovely to talk to and clearly good at what he does. My feet were so relaxed and pretty it felt like I was walking on air as I was brought in to the next room to see Jimmy for my PCA Facial (60 Min $129), which is one of the Spa Cabanas' signature anti-aging facials. PCA (Physicians Care Alliance) has been partnering with physicians for over two decades to provide a proven process combining aesthetics and science for healthy, beautiful skin. PCA Skin is

only available through physicians, nurses and licensed skin care professionals. It started out with a PCA total wash (face and body), skin analysis, extractions, and PCA Nutrient Toner. After the facial massage, a mask was applied, followed by a PCA serum (the serum is mixed by the therapist depending on your skin type). After this, PCA Linea is applied to reduce wrinkles and lines, followed by the PCA Moisturizer. The last step is to apply the PCA Weightless SPF protection for all skin types. Jimmy has a wealth of knowledge on skin care and is very informative on how to deal with your skin on a day to day basis. After my facial, I was introduced to Oscar Gomez for a Deep Tissue Massage (60 Min $95) which combined sports massage with deep tissue, this is neuromuscular and stretching massage. This is more of a

therapeutic massage for those individuals who have more issues. Oscar determined the areas that needed to be focused on and my flexibility and stretched me away. I have to say, at first I was apprehensive about being stretched like a pretzel, but when I let go, it was the most amazing massage. I highly recommend you make an appointment with Oscar as your body will feel amazing for the next few days. The Spa Cabanas always features specials; check their ad right here in Hotspots to find out what they are. For the month of September: an 80 minute Bamboo Massage is only $145; Five Steps to heaven, which includes a 60 minute massage a 60 minute facial, manicure/pedicure and a body wrap for only $259 and only $399 for a couple; and 5 sessions of Deep Tissue Massage for only $259 (reg $475). Call Norman or Clint at 954-565-2307 to schedule an appointment and tell them you read about their specials in Hotspots!

Community Celebrating Community

T

he 4th Annual Pink Flamingo Award ceremony promises to be an entertainment extravaganza on Thursday, September 22 at Jungle Island in Miami. The evening includes a Bacardi open bar cocktail reception, 3 course seated dinner, a silent auction and live entertainment featuring the evenings celebrity emcee, comedian/actress Julie Goldman. It was a pleasure to sit down with Lori Lynch, Executive Director of the LGBT Visitor's Center in Miami Beach who told us a bit more about the event and what we can expect at the ceremony.

Lori Lynch

How long have you been with the LGBT Visitor's Center? I've been here for two and a half years.

Why is the Awards Ceremony important to the LGBT Visitor's Center?

It's important to the entire community, hence the theme, Community Celebrating Community. It's the one time of year when such a diverse audience gets together and celebrates each other. Additionally, it's the sole fundraising event of the year for the LGBT Visitor's Center, so we rely on this event and donations to sustain our operation throughout the year.

Can you give us a bit of insight into how the nominees are

chosen and the voting process?

Absolutely. The nominees are chosen by the public, online in a first round of voting that is a write in round where voters can nominate anyone they choose in all 21 categories. From there, the top five vote

getters in each category become the official nominees and the second round of voting begins. Voters can go to our website, PinkFlamingoAwards.com and vote for their favorites. The winner is announced live at the awards show.

When can people vote?

Voting is open 24 hours a day until Sunday, September 18.

c e r e m o n y , v i s i t PinkFlamingoAwards.com. Please support the LGBT Visitor's Center in Miami Beach by coming to the Pink Flamingo Awards. I can't express enough how important a fundraiser this event is for the center which is such an amazing resource for our community. The center welcomes thousands of LGBT visitors from around the globe annually. Aside from being a welcoming center for LGBTQ visitors, the LGBT Visitors Center is also a space for strengthening our community relationships while focusing on community wellness and social engagement. They have collaborated with many of our local LGBTQ community organizations to help bring A wealth of programming, services and referrals to our LGBTQ community. For more information on the Visitor's Center, visit GoGayMiami.com

What is new this year for the Awards show?

One of the biggest things that I'm excited about is that Julie Goldman is the Emcee! On top of that, we have a lot of entertainment planned, including lots of surprises throughout the night. We have a bunch of new and different nominees this year so we are really excited to see the community turnout at the Awards Show. The 4th Annual Pink Flamingo Awards take place from 7-10pm on Thursday, September 22 at Jungle Island in Miami. For more information on the awards, or to purchase tickets to the

//Miranda Kerr//

nd I was like, 'Hmm...right, what were you thinking? Seriously, what were you thinking?"-Miranda Kerr reveals what she said to ex Orlando Bloom when he texted her to say some nude photos of him would be coming out. I'm surprised she didn't say, "Been there, done that. The Go-Go's have played a big role in my life. Even though they broke up (for the first time) shortly after I entered high school, they reunited by the time I got to college. Not only had I realized I was gay, but I realized that they were gay icons (well, seeing Sara Gilbert at the shows kinda solidified it). The girls often call themselves one big dysfunctional family, and as I've gotten to know them, I can confirm that's pretty accurate. Like most families, they've had their ups and downs. But what I've always admired is that they've never made a secret of the problems. Every time they fought, we knew they'd eventually get back together. They never called any of their shows a farewell - until now. The "GOing, GOing, GONE" tour came six years after Belinda Carlisle first broached the idea of disbanding. In retrospect, she may have been onto something. The girls may sound

//Belinda Carlisle// and look better than ever, but we currently have only four-fifths of the band. Kathy Valentine was jettisoned three years ago - the most public schism yet. Since Kathy's ouster, the band has continued with fabulous bassist, Abby Travis. But for purists, it's not exactly the same - something I'm sure Bangles devotees felt when Abby replaced Michael Steele. So I went into the final shows with mixed emotions. At this point, the group is a well-oiled machine, and their set included all of the hits and a few rarities (including some which were only for die-hard fans). The tour poetically wrapped up at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles - the site of their landmark "Wild at the Greek" concert in 1984. This was not a weepy, maudlin farewell, but a celebration. The capacity crowd danced and screamed for the full 90-minute concert, and the girls seemed to be having a blast. Still, I couldn't help but notice that just before the final bow, Belinda Carlisle stopped for a moment, scanned the audience, and took it all in. She was the first to quietly slip away. After the show, the girls hosted a reception for family and friends. While most of the band were extremely accessible (including an incandescent Carlisle), Jane Wiedlin needed some time to herself before celebrating. It should be noted that gay luminaries Tab Hunter and Greg Louganis were there to join in the fun.

One postscript - despite the bad blood between Kathy Valentine and the group, she still responded to a post on Belinda's Instagram account. "Sad not to be there! I loved my 32 years in the Go-Go's and hope for a great reunion at the RRHOF [Rock and Roll Hall of Fame]!! love to all the fans and my former band." Carlisle quickly wrote back, "And we send our love to you." Something to look forward to... Last week, a gay bachelor hit the airwaves, courtesy of Logo's "Finding Prince Charming". By now, you all know that you could have had him as your own Prince Charming if you ponied up $250 an hour! Yes, Robert Sepulveda was a hooker - and he's sheepishly admitted it. Word has it Logo was caught completely off-guard, and an unnamed source claims, "Nothing came up during the background check. The network didn't find out until well into production". These things don't happen on ABC's "The Bachelor", a show run by Mike Fleiss, who knows a thing or two about hookers! While Sepulveda isn't hiding from his former profession, he feels "the past is the past" - which might be the case were it not for those videos. Oh yes, in addition to the photos we have published showing his selfproclaimed "fat uncut 10-inch c*#k", there are videos of a more graphic nature. Yes, we get the obligatory masturbation video, which no hooker should be without. But then there's that video that quenches other thirsts. I dare

//Kathy Valentine//

not say more in a family publication, but you can see all on BillyMasters.com. In an announcement that may send oodles of my fans to Switzerland, a new coffee shop will be opening in Geneva by the end of the year called The Fellatio CafĂŠ. And, yes, you can get a cup of coffee and a side of a blowjob! Damn, those Swiss think of EVERYTHING! The cafe is based on similar shops in Thailand. Well, if we're using that as our barometer, I wonder where they will find enough prepubescent baristas. In touting the high quality of the service, the company mouthpiece (so to speak) said, "In five or ten minutes, it's all over." And after nine cups, the tenth is free! When baristas are making foam the old fashioned way, it'd definitely time to end yet another column. Believe it or not, we just celebrated the 21st anniversary of this column. It's ironic that as I'm inching closer to becoming an AARP member, the column is finally legal! But, that means you have two decades of dish to read on www.BillyMasters.com - the site that doesn't look its age! Although we didn't have room for an "Ask Billy" question, you can still write to me at Billy@BillyMasters.com, and I promise to get back to you before Hollywood starts scouring death row to find a serial killer to star in a film about Jeffrey Dahmer! So, until next time, remember, one man's filth is another man's bible.

Cinema Paradiso-Lauderdale Renamed as Savor Cinema Theater to Receive Make-Over and be Renamed After Title Sponsor, Philanthropist & FLIFF Board Member Steve Savor

regory von Hausch, President and CEO of the For t Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLiFF) recently announced that the charming and lovably funky Cinema Paradiso – Lauderdale (503 SE 6 Street, Fort Lauderdale) will now be known as Savor Cinema. During this year, the FLiFF Board actively sought out an entity or individual that would make a commitment of cash support in exchange for their name on the building. They didn't have to search far. Philanthropist and FLiFF Board Member, Steve Savor once again stepped up to the plate. Built as a Methodist Church in the 1940's after the first one was blown away by the monster hurricane of 1926, the building became a depot for Courthouse records in the 1960's. In 1986, it was transformed into The Vinnette Carroll Theatre in honor of the Off-Broadway writer, director and actress of the same name and the theatre became Cinema Paradiso in 1998. Although there have been upgrades over the years, the art-house theater is again in desperate need of a makeover. “I wanted to do something to help FLIFF, and in particular Cinema Paradiso – Lauderdale, that was more than just writing a check. I had observed that the theater was sorely in need of cosmetics. All of the plans have not been finalized but, I know it will include lots of paint, landscaping, new fans,

lights, carpet, wallpaper, doors and Courtyard upgrades,” commented Steve Savor. A VIP unveiling of Cinema Paradiso will take place prior to the Opening Night of the 31st Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival on November 4th 2016. The exact date will be announced by midSeptember. Steve Savor has been a sponsor of FLIFF since 2002. His involvement has been a stunning brush of panache as he not only raised funds and awareness for FLIFF, but also did so in the most spectacular ways. He became a member of the FLIFF Board in 2015 and was just named to the FLIFF Executive Board. He is continually thinking outside the box, and Steve is the one who brings ideas to FLIFF in contrast to other sponsors FLIFF is constantly pitching. The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Cinema Paradiso – Lauderdale, Cinema Paradiso – Hollywood and FLIFF OnLocation are programs of The Broward County Film Society, a 501(c)(3) not-forprofit cultural institution. The Film Society is funded in part by The Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, The Broward County Cultural Division and The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

GENRE EXCLUSIVA Con Ian Maloney

Megan Vice

S

¿Has estado de gira todavía?

According to her website, Megan Vice is equal parts glam and grit, pairing polished production and structured songwriting with syncopated beats and raw, unfiltered lyrics. Megan is a native New Yorker with a Puerto Rican background who grew up a NYC suburb on Long Island. It was a pleasure to chat with this new artist who is sure to be making hits for years to come.

Tell our readers a bit about who you are and your music. I am playful and fun and I try not to take myself too seriously, which is why in my videos and in my lyrics, they are kind of tongue- in-cheek. There's a comedic air to everything that I like to do. I love to write songs and make people dance. I like to hear a song, groove and feel sexy, and that's what I want to give to other people through my music.

How did you get your start in the music biz? I've always known I wanted to be a singer, since I was a little girl. But I didn't know I wanted to be a songwriter and that I could actually write songs since I don't play an instrument. When you are a kid you don't realize that there are all kinds of writing, so I was just doing school/town talent shows and such… I had a karaoke machine in my bedroom so I was always singing and doing stuff like that. It wasn't till I was 17 or 18 that I met with one of the guys who ran the local music shop in the town where I grew up on Long Island. He did

me a favor and recorded me for a talent show that I wanted to enter and we had a conversation about writing. I told him, I didn't think I could do it, that “I wouldn't be good at that”. He was like “of course you can write, you just have to try, so I gave it a shot and proceeded to write my first song ever titled "Secret Lover.” It's a god awful song, but it was the first time I thought, ok, maybe I can do this! That's when I really started to take myself seriously and started to push my career. I realized that I could do more than just sing; I could actually make my own music.

You mentioned your Karaoke machine growing up, what kind of music were you into when you were coming up? I was into all types of music. My parents were into totally different styles. My dad is very much into classic rock; Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd and also really likes doo-wop and oldies. My mom liked oldies and doo-wop, but she also likes pop music, so there was Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Prince around. I grew up with all of those sounds floating around my environment. Being a little girl in the '90's I loved The S p i c e G i r l s , B r i t n e y, Christina, N-SYNC and all that super pop stuff, so there was definitely all of that being sung loudly out through the speakers of my Karaoke machine.

What's going on in the world of Megan Vice? Are you making new music? Got anything new coming out soon? Right now I'm working on my next record - a full length.

I've been writing for myself and for other artists. I'm collaborating with some indie homies, a few European DJ/producers and on some brand new songs with the iconic Amanda Lepore. I'm kind of all over the place! Setting up some shows and planning my next music video. I've got a lot of fun releases coming up.

Have you been out on tour yet? I've not been on tour, but that is in the works and we are discussing it now.

What can we expect from you in the future? My plan is to just keep bringing people a good time and making people feel good and making myself feel good in the process. I enjoy what I do. I get to do what I love and I'm so happy for that.

We can't wait to hear it. Come down to South Florida sometime. We would love to get a chance to see you live. www.megvice.com • www.instagram.com/meganvice www.facebook.com/meganvicemusic • www.twitter.com/megvice https://soundcloud.com/meganvice •www.youtube.com/meganvicemusic www.funkthefreeworld.tumblr.com

WOODY THE GET IT UP ROOT H

ey Woody, I keep hearing about the sex-enhancing power of Yohimbe. I don't have any trouble getting it up but I'd like better, stiffer, longer-lasting erections. Do you know anything about it? --Looking for more action

Dear Looking: Yohimbe (pronounced YO-HIMBEE) is an herbal supplement made from the bark of the Pausinystalia yohimbe tree. Its active ingredient is the alkaloid yohimbine, which until Viagra, was the only FDAapproved oral medication for impotence. Only a doctor's prescription will assure you of actually getting yohimbine, thanks to the frauds in the herbal supplement business. It's sold as an herbal extract in health food stores, but good luck trying to get a dose that actually contains the active ingredient. Because they're not regulated, herbal companies aren't under any obligation to put in the ingredients they list. Studies of products sold in health food stores found most contain little or no yohimbine when tested. So much for wisdom and honesty from the crunchy, Birkenstock set. They get away with lies corporate America could never get away with, proving you don't have to wear a tie and wingtips to screw the public. If you can actually get yohimbine, odds are that it will help. It's been proven in clinical studies to increase blood flow to the penis. Its main problem is side effects. Yohimbe can cause elevated blood pressure and heart rate, dizziness,

headache, skin flushing, anxiety, panic attacks and hallucinations. It should not be taken, under any circumstances, by anyone with heart disease, kidney disease or anxiety. Because of its severe side-effects, the FDA classifies yohimbe as an unsafe herb. If you don't fall into one of the danger groups, I don't see any harm in trying it. But again, good luck getting the right dosage. The largest study showed the best results came with 42 mg of yohimbine daily over 2-3 weeks. Hey, woody! I know this is a stupid question, but what do two bottoms do when they hook up? -- Just curious Dear Curious: Hair and make-up. Hey woody! Why do people on Grindr profiles say stuff like, "if you can't come up with something better than hello, keep moving." I mean, what the hell else can you say when you haven't met anyone! --Stumped Dear Stumped: Saying stuff like that is just arrogance personified. Whenever I run into a profile like that I say to myself, "Oh, f@&k you. I'm not your little monkey who signed on here to entertain you." Imagine a great looking guy coming up to you at a bar who says "hello." You basically throw a drink in his face and say, "Can't you come up with something better?" And walk away. Ridiculous. Some of the most charming—and hot—guys I've ever met online started out by saying "hello." That said, it never hurts to be a little creative. My favorite opening line? "You owe me .99 cents. Your pics melted the Snickers Bar in my pocket."
