Everything you need to plan your week

A week ago Wednesday, was the GFLGLCC's (Gay and Lesbian Chamber of commerce) Quarterly Networking Luncheon at Events by Grateful Palate (3003 NE 32nd Ave), which was sponsored by the CVB Fort Lauderdale. I want to personally thank Keith for inviting the Peters and me to sit at the host table where we were able to chat with the CVB staff. The event was sold out with 100 attendees. On Thursday, in honor of World AIDS Day, Broward House presented their annual Vigil and Remembrance Walk, which kicked off at Hagen Park and ended at the Pride Center at Equality Park. Hundreds showed up and, once again, this was a powerful event. This past weekend was the annual Art Basel Miami, with shows all over Miami. On Friday, we attended Hotel Gaythering's Art Gaysel 2 Show and so did a lot of cute boys. Later that night we headed over to Floppy Rooster, its hard (pun intended) being in the media business…LOL! Once again they had very sexy dancers, and a fun atmosphere. On Saturday night, the Ramrod held their 100th Pig Dance (first Saturday of the month) to a packed crowd. As a matter of fact, there was a line down the block to get in. Congrats to Steve and Zack on 100 monthly Pig Dances and much success in the future. On Sunday, Flip Flops Dockside Eatery presented their monthly T Dance, the only T dance in Fort Lauderdale on the Intracoastal which is always hosted by Amanda Austin with DJ Barry Huffine. This month's special guests were Asheeria Pryce, Athena Dion and Angie Ovahness. Once again, it was packed.

From director Casper Andreas ("Going Down in LA-LA Land") and screenwriter David Michael Barrett ("Such Good People") comes "Kiss Me, Kill Me," a sexy gay thriller. Dusty ("As the World Turns" four-time Emmy nominee Van Hansis) blacks out while confronting his cheating boyfriend Stephen, ("Queer as Folk" gay icon Gale Harold). When Dusty comes to, Stephen was murdered and he's the prime suspect. The movie also stars Brianna Brown ("Devious Maids"), Yolonda Ross (HBO's "The Get Down"), Jai Rodriguez ("Queer Eye"), Matthew Ludwinski ("Going Down in LA-LA Land"), Craig Robert Young (“The Last Ship”), Kit Williamson (“Mad Men"), Jonathan Lisecki ("Gayby"), D.J. "Shangela" Pierce ("RuPaul's Drag Race") and Michael Maize ("Mr. Robot"). Casper says “I have always enjoyed a good

who-done-it. Growing up, I was a huge fan of both Agatha Christie novels and suspense thrillers, so when screenwriter David Michael Barrett sent me the script for KISS ME, KILL ME, I got very excited. Not only was this a bona-fide murder mystery, it was centered in a world I am very familiar with – gay West Hollywood. We had quite an extensive development period, which gave me plenty of time to school myself in film noir. David's knowledge of the genre was extensive, and the screenplay pays homage to many of the greats, from Hitchcock to DePalma to even Verhoeven. “ The movie has played in over three-dozen festivals all over the world. What is TRUVADA for PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis)? TRUVADA is a prescription medicine that can be used for PrEP to help reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 infection when used together with safer sex practices. This use is only for adults who are at high risk of getting HIV-1 through sex. This includes HIV-negative men who have sex with men and who are at high risk of getting infected with HIV-1 through sex, and male-female sex partners when one partner has HIV-1 infection and the other does not. Ask your healthcare provider if you have questions about how to prevent getting HIV-1. Always practice safer sex and use condoms to lower the chance of sexual contact with body fluids. Never reuse or share needles or other items that have body fluids on them.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION What is the most important information I should know about TRUVADA for PrEP?

Before taking TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce your risk of getting HIV-1 infection: u You must be HIV-negative. You must get tested to make sure that you do not already have HIV-1 infection. Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 unless you are confirmed to be HIV-negative. u Many HIV-1 tests can miss HIV-1 infection in a person who has recently become infected. If you have flu-like symptoms, you could have recently become infected with HIV-1. Tell your healthcare provider if you had a flu-like illness within the last month before starting TRUVADA for PrEP or at any time while taking TRUVADA for PrEP. Symptoms of new HIV-1 infection include tiredness, fever, joint or muscle aches, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, night sweats, and/or enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or groin. While taking TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce your risk of getting HIV-1 infection: u You must continue using safer sex practices. Just taking TRUVADA for PrEP may not keep you from getting HIV-1. u You must stay HIV-negative to keep taking TRUVADA for PrEP. u To further help reduce your risk of getting HIV-1: • Know your HIV-1 status and the HIV-1 status of your partners. • Get tested for HIV-1 at least every 3 months or when your healthcare provider tells you. • Get tested for other sexually transmitted infections. Other infections make it easier for HIV-1 to infect you. • Get information and support to help reduce risky sexual behavior. • Have fewer sex partners. • Do not miss any doses of TRUVADA. Missing doses may increase your risk of getting HIV-1 infection. • If you think you were exposed to HIV-1, tell your healthcare provider right away. u If you do become HIV-1 positive, you need more medicine than TRUVADA alone to treat HIV-1. TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time.

TRUVADA can cause serious side effects:

u Too much lactic acid in your blood (lactic acidosis),

which is a serious medical emergency. Symptoms of lactic acidosis include weakness or being more tired than usual, unusual muscle pain, being short of breath or fast breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach-area pain, cold or blue hands and feet, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, and/or fast or abnormal heartbeats. u Serious liver problems. Your liver may become large and tender, and you may develop fat in your liver. Symptoms of liver problems include your skin or the white part of your eyes turns yellow, dark “tea-colored” urine, light-colored stools, loss of appetite for several days or longer, nausea, and/or stomach-area pain. u You may be more likely to get lactic acidosis or serious liver problems if you are female, very overweight (obese), or have been taking TRUVADA for a long time. In some cases, these serious conditions have led to death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of these conditions. u Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection. If you also have HBV and take TRUVADA, your hepatitis may become worse if you stop taking TRUVADA. Do not stop taking TRUVADA without first talking to your healthcare provider. If your healthcare provider tells you to stop taking TRUVADA, they will need to watch you closely for several months to monitor your health. TRUVADA is not approved for the treatment of HBV.

Who should not take TRUVADA for PrEP?

Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you already have HIV-1 infection or if you do not know your HIV-1 status. If you are HIV-1 positive, you need to take other medicines with TRUVADA to treat HIV-1. TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time. Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you also take lamivudine (Epivir-HBV) or adefovir (HEPSERA).

What are the other possible side effects of TRUVADA for PrEP? Serious side effects of TRUVADA may also include:

u Kidney problems, including kidney failure. Your healthcare

provider may do blood tests to check your kidneys before and during treatment with TRUVADA for PrEP. If you develop kidney problems, your healthcare provider may tell you to stop taking TRUVADA for PrEP. u Bone problems, including bone pain or bones getting soft or thin, may lead to fractures. Your healthcare provider may do tests to check your bones. u Changes in body fat, which can happen in people taking TRUVADA or medicines like TRUVADA. Common side effects in people taking TRUVADA for PrEP are stomach-area (abdomen) pain, headache, and decreased weight. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects that bother you or do not go away.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking TRUVADA for PrEP? u All your health problems. Be sure to tell your healthcare

provider if you have or have had any kidney, bone, or liver problems, including hepatitis virus infection.

Please see Important Facts about TRUVADA for PrEP including important warnings on the following pages.

I

t had been several years since the last I spoke with Linda Eder, so I was very excited to catch up with one of my favorite performers, just a week before she performs with the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida. Miss Eder became a household name when she was on Star Search in 1988 and not only won 12 shows in a row (undefeated), but then went on to win the grand finale and the $100,000 prize. She is also well known for her portrayal of “Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. It was a pleasure to sit down with Miss Eder for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

What have you been up to the last two years? Making my own label and my own records: Tressamail records. Honestly, I wish I would have done that sooner. I have come out with three albums. I also have been teaching and giving Master Classes. I had been asked for years to teach and I had been putting it off and now it's something I really enjoy.

At what age did singing become an interest of yours? Pretty much as far back as I can remember, but

realistically at the age of 8 when I saw The Wizard of Oz and Judy Garland's performance.

You won 12 weeks on Star Search and then won the finale in 1988. How did that shape your career and do you remember how it felt to win the finale? Before Star Search I was already singing professionally for about six-and-a-half years, but there is no question that the national exposure kick started by career. My goal from day one was to win one show, so to win 12 weeks in a row and be undefeated and then to win the finale was unreal. It felt like it was just meant to be.

When did you know singing was going to officially be your career? My first paid gig was at a Holiday Inn for two weeks. I felt like a professional after that, as prior to this gig I had always worked for free. I was 19 at the time.

Who were your inspirations in the recording industry? There are so many, as my taste is very diverse. I loved classical music when I was younger and that led me to Barbra Streisand, as her voice was so beautiful. Now that I am on my own label (after 15 CDs with major record companies), I feel free to sing whatever I want and I have inspirations in all genres of music. Currently, I am loving Gavin Degraw, and that's

a long way from Barbra Streisand.

Ihavebeenafanofyoursforyears, buttheonesongthat getsmeeverysingletimeIhearitisyourduetof"Crying" withClayAiken.Howdidthatcomeaboutandcanyoutell meabouttheexperiencerecordingthisduet? He was planning on doing that song on his album, and he contacted me, and of course I said yes. He came into Manhattan to the studio where I record, and it was an amazing experience. I love harmony. That's the most fun I had in a studio. It was also great to perform that duet with him and then to perform it again on his television special.

On 2013 on your Christmas album “Christmas Where You Are” you sang a duet of “Baby, It's Cold Outside” with your son. Tell me about that experience. Well, that was one of the most fantastic experiences of my life. I have always known he was musical, but he is also all man and he was not very confident singing in public. I had to rewrite half of the lyrics so it could be about us and even after that I was sure he would turn me down when I asked him, but he didn't. There is not one bit of auto-tuning on the song. It's all him. It was a Christmas present to myself for the rest of my life.

Hotspots Exclusive Interview By Scott Holland Yes, I have, as it's always been great, as I love working with choirs. I have loved choirs since I was in school. I have many of my arrangements that include choirs; I really enjoy it.

I am so used to seeing you perform by yourself, what's the difference between a solo performance and one with a chorus? It's not my show, I am a guest, but I usually base the performance on the vibe I get from the audience. It's still me, just a bit cooler! Choirs actually have a special place in my heart. When I was in school, I was very shy, and my choir teacher was very encouraging. It's really the reason I became a singer. I don't get the opportunity to do it that often and I love it.

Are you excited to be coming down to the warmth of Florida and what do you look forward to here in Florida? Unfortunately I will not be there very long, but I was just there performing at the villages and I stayed and enjoyed the warmth.

Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you. I own every power tool known to man and I know how to use them. I put up walls, et cetera, all by myself. Also, I always have a stage door person, so I will stay and sell CDs, sign autographs, and say hello to my fans. I will stay to meet every person. I am always the last person out of every one of my performances.

Describe yourself in three words. Honest, tough and funny.

You have performed all over the world. Do you have a favorite venue? My favorite for purely sentimental reasons is Carnegie Hall, as it was the only venue I knew of growing up. I felt like I accomplished a lifelong goal. I have performed there four times. But it's hard to pick a favorite because there are so many good venues. Although, McCallum Theatre in [Palm Desert,] California is amazing.

You will be performing with the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida. Have you worked with other gay chorus'? If so how is that experience, if not, are you excited about the new opportunity?

What does the future hold for Linda Eder? More CDs; different kinds. This has been so fun to do, and I would like to make as many as I can until I am too old to do it. I have had a lot of requests for a DVD, and I am in the process of putting that together in hopes of getting it out in the middle of next year.

Don't forget to catch Linda Eder singing alongside ''The Gay Mens Chorus of South Floridas highly anticipated holiday concert, “Holidays at the Hard Rock!” at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to: gmcsf.org . Robert sits down with Hotspots for an exclusive interview

T

he inaugural season of Finding Prince Charming definitely made its mark on Pop Culture. Not only has it been renewed for next season, I have a feeling it will be around for many seasons to come. It was a pleasure to sit down with Robert “The Prince for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

How did you get cast as Prince Charming?

A friend contacted me in late February of 2016. I've known him for years and he said there was a new show coming out and that "You'd be perfect for it!" I was very hesitant. Reality TV is not something I thought I'd ever be doing, but I was recently out of a relationship, and thought, "why not"! I knew this would be a platform for me to share my story of transformation and that if you were once broken, you don't have to stay broken. From there it all snowballed and by June of 2016 we were filming out in LA.

Were you nervous to begin filming?

Before we began production I was nervous, this was a big endeavor, lots of people invested a lot of money and time into the show... there was a big crew, lots of cameras,

and I was at the center of the story. It was also season one and the first show of its kind in history, so I did feel I had to deliver. I will always be gratefully to everyone at Logo TV, everyone who worked on the production, the crew. It was a beautiful experience.

After the first day, were you happy with the selection of guys?

The casting team was responsible for casting all the suitors. I didn't have a hand at picking any of the guys, but I did love the fact they brought in a very diverse group of men all with beautiful stories to share.

You revealed to the top 3 that you had been an escort many years earlier? Was this hard to tell them, and are you glad you did?

I was actually going to reveal the journey of my past at the masquerade party, but after Eric revealed he was HIV positive I decided to tell my story of transformation at another more appropriate time. We all have baggage from our past that we would rather not share so quickly with others or not confront in ourselves because of the pain, shame or guilt attached to those memories and the feelings they invoke, as well as the fear of being rejected or judged by people. But, I knew the honorable thing to do was to confront my past not only for self-healing, but because the guys were so vulnerable and honest with me in sharing their stories. I was in a very broken, confused, insecure place when I decided to start escorting, but it's a part of my past that has made me who I am today; a more understanding, empathetic, thoughtful, humble and caring human being. I have, by the grace of God turned, it all around

Tell us some things about you that we didn't see on the show?

A more playful, funny, goofy Robert. I'm really a funny guy; I laugh a lot, most of the time at myself. I play jokes on my friends; I'm very easy going and pretty much go with the flow. People saw a more pensive, somewhat rigid side of me, but it was because there was a lot of weight on my shoulders.

What does the future hold for Robert?

Thankfully Robert Sepulveda Jr. | Interior Design has been very busy with new interior design clients and projects. My activism and

community outreach is something I am also very passionate about. I now live in LA and have had the incredible opportunity to work with some amazing charitable organizations like the LGBT center in West Hollywood, AIDSWalk LA, and many more. I also have a profound passion working with no kill animal rescue and adoption organizations. I've volunteered for over 13 years to no kill animal rescue organizations throughout the country Animal Haven in NYC and Paws Atlanta and I want to continue that in LA. I've also started a new YouTube channel @Robert Sepulveda Jr. I'll be posting my thoughts about design, life, love, the past, everything.

If someone wants to get in touch with you, how would they?

I want to invite anyone that feels confused about their sexuality, or about coming out, or just needs someone to talk to, to reach out to me! Social media or through my website is great. Also you can reach out to the Trevor Project @TrevorProject - or call their hotline 24 hours a day - 7 days a week. A friendly voice will be there to answer your call, anonymously, confidentially with support of any kind. 1-866488-7386

Inside & Out

Hollywood

By Billy Masters

//Kathy Griffin//

“I

‘m almost positive a certain beloved daytime talk show host once had me kicked out of a backstage dressing room at the Emmy Awards. I can't prove it, but this person, who has short blonde hair, has a mean streak that all of Hollywood knows about." – Kathy Griffin's clearly afraid to name Ellen DeGeneres. But we're not because we have positive stories about both funny ladies in this week's column. It was a sad Thanksgiving in the Masters household when we got word that Florence Henderson had died. Only days earlier she appeared on the season finale of "Dancing with the Stars". Flo was a helluva gal. Actually, she liked to be called a "dame", apropos of her starring role in the 1967 revival of "South Pacific". In fact, Henderson performed "There Is Nothing Like a Dame" at last year's Broadway Backwards, which raised money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the NYC Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. Yes, Mrs. Brady was always there for us. I have a plethora of stories that I could share, but my most treasured anecdote is from two years ago after her show at the Catalina Bar & Grill. I told her about a friend who had been

//Florence Henderson / a child actor and had fond memories of appearing opposite her in the 1970 musical, "The Song of Norway" - her first film. A week or so later I ran into Flo at a party. She told me she couldn't stop thinking about my friend and how sweet it was that he still thought about her. She then pointed to my phone and said, "Can you record a video on that thing?" I said yes. She asked me to film her sending a message to my friend. That was Flo. RIP. Social media was all a-twitter with rumors that Mike Pence may have been a star in adult gay films in the past. The allegation was accompanied by a photo of a very hot man indeed. But it's not Pence. The pup in question is Brad Patton - aka Joel Mangs. First off, Mangs/Patton was born in 1972 Pence hails from the late '50s. Patton ended his film career with a bang (or a mang) in 2007, and then continued working as a professional ice skater. He's won two gold medals at the Gay Games and two silver medals at the World OutGames. He's also been a member of "Disney on Ice" and appeared on "Dancing on Ice" in the Netherlands. Time to set the record straight - Elton John will not be singing at Donald Trump's inauguration. I repeat, Elton John will NOT be singing at Donald Trump's inauguration, despite a claim made by Anthony Scaramucci, a member of Trump's transition team. "This will be the first American president in US history that enters the White

House with a pro-gay-rights stance. Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the mall for the inauguration." Really? A mouthpiece for the singer stated, "Elton will not be performing at Trump's inauguration". Believe it or not, it's time for Billy's Holiday Gift Giving Suggestions. Let me start by telling all potential vendors that my endorsement can be bought. But until the payola starts rolling in, let's start off with something that should make everyone happy. My name is Billy Masters, and I'm addicted to the Limited Edition Lindor Peppermint White Chocolate Truffles. These are only available a few weeks each year, and they kinda creep up on you without any notice. I was in CVS to pick up cholesterol medication (probably from eating too many truffles), and saw a Lindor display which said "Buy 2, Get 1 Free"! How could I pass that up? Instead of just a $2 co-pay,I ended up spending close to triple digits stocking up on these little bites of heaven. I hope they restock next week! If you've gotten this far, I'm gonna assume you enjoy reading. Not heavy reading - my fans like reading trash. Something you can breeze through and get a bit of a chuckle out of. If you know someone like-minded, then buy them Kathy Griffin's new bestseller, "Celebrity Run-Ins: My AZ Index". It's exactly what you want from Kathy dish about celebrities. And it's alphabetized! Here's a little tip - if don't like reading, get the audio book! It's available through Audible, or you

//Tom Ellis//

can go really old school and buy the CDs - read by the author, naturally! We can squeeze in a very short "Ask Billy" question. Thomas in Baltimore asks, "What do you know about Tom Ellis from 'Lucifer'? He looks so familiar. Or maybe it's just because he's SO hot. You may remember the handsome Welsh actor from when he played Robin Hood on "Once Upon a Time". Nope, not the Robin of Sean Maguire. Ellis played the role first, but had to bow out when the character became a regular the following season because he'd been cast in the USA series "Rush" - which was swiftly cancelled. But you're in luck. During our research, we learned that Ellis appeared nude in the British series, "The Fades". And in the spirit of giving, you can check him out on BillyMasters.com. When we can go from Netherlands to nether regions, it's time to end yet another column. With the holiday season upon us, you can get lots of ho, ho, hos at www.BillyMasters.com, the site that would make one helluva stocking stuffer. If you'd like some stuffing personally, send me a note (and a photo) to Billy@BillyMasters.com and I promise to get back to you before Elton and Hillary sing "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" at the inauguration! So, until next time, remember, one man's filth is another man's bible.

GENRE DIFERENCIAS Con Ian Maloney

Victor Díaz-Herman

........................................................

Miami's LGBT community has an unsung hero in her native son, Victor Diaz-Herman. Raised by two moms, Diaz-Herman has spent his entire life, even before he came out himself, as a member of the LGBTQ community. At 35, he has spent much of the last decade in a leadership role at Pridelines, the oldest LGBTQ service organization in South Florida. According to Scott Bader, a current Pridelines board member, “You will not meet a more caring, talented and hardworking individual than Victor. He is constantly pouring his heart

Victor...“está constantemente derramando su corazón y su alma en organizaciones, proyectos y programas, trabajando largas horas para apoyar a las personas LGBTQ y a nuestra comunidad”. Annual Masquerade Ball

and soul into organizations, projects and programs, working long hours to support LGBTQ individuals and our community. It was a pleasure to sit down with Victor to find out a little more about him and the amazing work he does with Pridelines, which has come so far since its early days meeting at Miami Dade College.

Where are you from and where did you grow up? I was born and raised here in Miami

How did you get involved with Pridelines? I became involved in Pridelines about 11 years ago. I was working for the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (now MiFO) as my first job out of college. One of my colleagues there worked with Pridelines and invited me to attend their youth prom., now on its 22 year. I volunteered to help serve food at the event. I was so impressed with what I was witnessing, I grew up in Miami, but I never knew about Pridelines. I was so impressed with how all these young people interacted with each other, no matter how they identified, without fear of prejudice or ridicule. At the time, I was in the closet, had I known about Pridelines sooner, I probably would have come out earlier. Shortly after that first event, I got involved with helping plan the second annual gala, which at the time was called the Adult Prom, and after that, the board invited me to join as a board member. I served on the board for 4 years in various positions.

Tell our readers a bit more about the work that Pridelines does to help serve the LGBT community. Pridelines is South Florida's oldest LGBTQ service agency and Miami's LGBTQ Community Center. We were founded in

1982 by LGBT youth for LGBTQ youth and we were youth focused until about 3 years ago, when we realized that we were doing all these things for our members and then when they turned 24, we had to turn them away and tell them they were too old to participate in our programs and that left us feeling like we were doing people a disservice. We had been filling gaps in our community, like providing one of the first site based HIV testing at a time when no one else was doing it. About two years ago The Center for Positive Connections reached out to us and asked if they could use our center for their programs and services. We readily agreed, however shortly after that, they came to us and said they had to close because of lack of funding. We knew we couldn't let that happen because they were serving all these people who would be left without any of the services if they went away. So we absorbed their programs and clients and immediately became a direct service provider for adults as well as continuing all the work we had been doing for the LGBTQ youth community.

How can someone get involved to help Pridelines? Start off at Pridelines.org. There is a volunteer form that they can submit directly to the center's volunteer coordinator. There are many ways that people can get involved, we have so many different committees, events, and outreach opportunities. The other way people can get involved is to actually take advantage of the programs and services that we have available. People often underestimate the value of being involved with a group of people who are also going through some of the same struggles that you are going through. Check us out online, check out our programs and get involved. Once you have participated in once, I guarantee you will want to get involved in more. The final way is to give. We have a program that starts out at $25/month, but any donation is appreciated, those individual gifts are what allow us to provide services to our clients. 95% of our services are free for our participants. We are a 501C3 nonprofit organization, so all direct donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law.

Need Wood

WOODY #COMPASSION

H

ey Woody, What do call a gay guy who got infected in the '80s? A victim. What do you call a gay guy who gets infected in 2016? An idiot. I don't mean to be cruel but I'm PISSED OFF. I've just had two twenty-something friends turn HIV+. I feel awful for them but at the same time, I'm angry. I just don't understand why they didn't have safe sex. I realize they can't afford PrEP but it's not like they don't how to protect themselves—they chose not to. To me, it's a simple equation: WEAR A CONDOM. Woody, for my own sanity, tell me, why is it so f#&king hard to get people to wear condoms? ---Don't get it Dear Don't Get It, If people were any more stupid about safe sex we'd have to water them twice a week. But you know what? I agree with your anger but not with your logic. Follow it and you're a breath away from saying, "If you got infected because you didn't wear a condom then it's your fault and you don't deserve help." Bullshit. When emergency workers pull out dead or injured people out of car crashes do they blame the victims for not wearing seat belts? Do they refuse to help them? The standard reasons experts give about rising infections center around Plague Fatigue and misplaced "AIDS Optimism" (believing that HIV's manageable and a cure is just around the corner), but there's

also a few other reasons: * Condoms smell awful and feel worse. You know the few times you put a condom on and it felt really good? It's because it broke. Let's face it, who the hell wants to use those boner busters? * Condoms give your d!ck a flat tire. Picture this: You've got an erection that priests pray for, a guy who wants you to top him, and a condom. You put it on and go flaccid as a homo at a Playboy shoot. You take it off and… SCHWING! Willy's ready for the plowing without the protection. So you do it before cooler heads prevail. * "Heat of the moment" lapses. Studies show if you "Date Upwards" (go home with somebody way out of your league) and they don't want to use condoms you're far less likely to insist on them. *Alcohol & Drugs. Your pants won't be the only thing around your ankles if you get wasted; so will your judgment. * The submissive bottom dilemma. If giving yourself over to bigger, more powerful men is part of your erotic trigger, and he doesn't want to use condoms, you're in a pickle. Submissives are supposed to take orders, not give them. * The Cute Factor. Guys assume that the young and beautiful aren't infected so they cast their condoms to the wind when they hook up with the flat-bellies. I'll talk about asserting yourself in vulnerable situations later (along with using PrEP) but for now, put your anger aside. Anybody who gets HIV is a victim, even if their stupidity contributed to the infection. Your friends are suffering. They deserve compassion, not criticism. Groan, Grunt and Grab. Not many syllables to them, but animal sounds can speak a thousand dirty words.
