HOUDA JEOUAL
HI, My name is Houda Jeoual and I am an Architect since September 2016. To say the least, I am «freakishly» passionate about architecture. My story with architecture began the day I first saw the light... but I’m not going to bore you that... More importantly, to embody my dream job, I studied at EAC, school of Architecture of Casablanca, Morocco. Where I finished my curriculum with a thesis entitled «Beyond vision as a tool of architectural conception». Then, lucky me, I had to face the real world of architecture in a small architecture atelier, where knowledge and experience were my job motto for more than two years. I might still be learning, (life is the biggest teacherl) but I have a hunger to learn more each day. I want to get better. I am willing to listen to critique, digest feedback, and hop back in the game. I am passionate about beautiful, high-performance environments. I have a bit of experience. Therefore I know what it’s like to work at a firm and how a set of drawings go together. I’m eager to contribute to and support a design team. I have looked at, developed, and understood the importance of details. I might not know everything, but I am curious. So here’s a fast feedback to the things that I have learned until today, I wish you a good read and hope to be at your best expectations ! PEACE!

let’s live together! We live nowadays in collective dwellings where we do not know our own neighbors. The idea in this collective housing project is to strengthen the relations between the neighbors by creating a collective housing that goes on the principle of community and eco-living. This property is a five-store building including a floor which is a common area. The central floor. Each floor has a different program, constitued of a mixity of types of habitations, flats, duplexes and studios But to keep all floors connected, they are all divided by three levels, related by a 1m high staircase. Which means that all flats are connected by a 1m staircase. Nevetheless, and thanks to the free plan concept adopted on the interiors, the residents can appropriate the habitation more easily.

pineapple housing This exercise was to conceive an urban housing based on an existing given project. Therefore, inspired by the projet «living Foz» by the architects Demm Aquitetura / Paulo Fernandes Silva ark, the project’s facade mimics the Living Foz facade. But counter to the living Foz ‘s balconies that come protect a pertfectly rectangle and rectilineal volume, the urban housing’s balconies come protect a completely fluid interior plan that is not at all reflected at the outside. A contradiction that we like to compare to a pineapple, rough from the outside but totally sweet from the inside. The balconies being the roughness of the ensamble, and the fluid lines the sweet side of it. The concept is to create a pleasant living space. Therefore, the space has been worked on four scales: the outside area, the transitionnal area, the common area and the private area. The common area is the space that contains all technical facilities (Parking, bike local, elevator, entry .. ) The interior garden is to be considered as the transitionnal are between the inside and the outside. All the appartment have direct views on the green space without vis-à-vis.The void created by this central element becomes the organizationnal core of the plan.

Chameleon house This work consisted on designing an individual housing constructed of rocks. The project’s main concept is, as a chameleon fades in its entourage, the project has to be fully integrated in the immediate environment. Therefore, situated in the mountains, the volume imbrication of rocks is the main inspiration. The house is made on the principle of rampla: each space has the height it needs. To accentuate the volumes fadeness, the green element is very present, hence the presence of the interior green space.

feel it ! The built environment is often conceived from a purely aesthetic or fuctional point of view. Therefore the visual aspect of the conceptions takes the first row. How can we identify this supremacy in architecture? What if we reconsider «Vision in architecture»? what «non-visual’architecture will take place? Indeed, in order to identify the potential of multi-sensory architecture, we referred in our project to visually impaired and blind people. The project is a primary school for blind children (this is an experimental project, therefore, the school will only accomodate for children with visual impairment, whereas, the case of mixing is essential for richer learning). Therefore, the main concept of the school is to create spaces where blind children can identify their location and can travel fluidly without constraints. And that by implementing volumes that valorize the sensual quality of space

one continous serpentine Casablanca is a city with a very powerful coastline. It represents its strenght. The Casablancais coasline is divided into different sequences. The transition between every two sequences is radical. The idea of this project is to work on the coastline as one global entity, by creating fluid transitions between the sequences. Among all the sequences, the port sequence seems to be the less connected. And because of its program it turns its back to the city despite its centrality. Therefore, the planning concept is to open the city on the coast using three different scalesn the citizen’s, the port logistic’s and the tourist’s. .

an affectionnate catastrophy Due to the floods experienced by Morocco on November 23th 2014, more than 100 houses in the agglomeration of Sidi Ouaglou were washed away with the rising waters. The mosque and the campus of the madrassa Ougagia (which is the first nucleus of ALmoravides dynasty) were damaged too. These floods are caused by climate change: summer heat waves, no-snow winters, a real climate disruption for the area. These climate changes are the main cause of the augmentation of the number of human victims of natural disasters and infrastructure destruction. The agglomeration of Sidi Ouaglou is considered to witness a sever drought during the years. Therefore, our project consists, based on four main phases, on reversing the consequence of the flood, from destructing the agglomeration to being it’s main source. In other words from a cold catastrophy to an affectionate source. The project’s objectives can be expressed as: 1 . Diversion of Oued Adoudou 2 . Desingning a platform that serves as a circulation area and also a protection mechanism of the building facades. 3 . Desingning a water distribution system. 4 . Designing a hillside dams that store flood waters of the Oued and work as public space for the residents

humble skeleton The idea here, for the project of the Olympic swimming pool of Rabat, is to accentuate the open space of the south side of the city. Where the big structures of the city come to compete, there is here place to magnify while remaining modest. It is therefore a landscape project that comes to marry its site and offers the ÂŤsports centerÂť both breathing air and vegetation. On both sides of the building, a vegetation barrier will provide real sound comfort compared to the heavy traffic generated by Hassan II Avenue and the various urban aggressions (pollution, movement, smells). The Olympic pool will be a building that does not only fascinate by its openess, but will take into account a major value, which is transparency. Indeed only the wooden roof, as a canopy which is both protective and elegant, will float in the middle of a landscaped garden. This will make the Olympic Swimming pool a new symbol of lightness for the city
