Freshen Up Your Home For The Spring Season
After a few months of chilly temperatures, come spring, many homeowners are eager to throw open their windows and doors and breathe new life into their homes. Simple changes made now —even before the weather begins to warm up — can improve interior spaces and brighten the atmosphere of a home. • Go plant shopping. Research from NASA suggests adding at least one plant in your home per 100 square feet is efficient enough to clean air. Fresh foliage also makes a home feel warm and inviting. Watering and misting plants introduces moisture into indoor air, which can make rooms overcome with dry air from heating systems feel comfortable. Just be sure to avoid overwatering plants, which can lead to mold growth. • Swap out throw pillows. Accent pillows on beds and sofas are quick and inexpensive ways to add new bursts of color to rooms. You may be able to make over a room’s entire color scheme with new pillows. Invest in pillows that you can switch with each season so your decor will never look tired or dull.
• Clean existing light fixtures. Another way to brighten the mood in a home is to periodically clean light fixtures to make sure they are working effectively. Spend time dusting them and cleaning off any accumulated debris. If need be, switch out old lamp shades for new-
er ones that let more light shine through. If inadequate lighting is a problem no matter how many lamps you have, consult with an electrician about installing more overhead and accent lighting. • Give rugs and floors a deep cleaning. Recirculated air may be full of dust and other microscopic particles that end up blowing throughout your home. Also, it’s easy to track in dirt and other materials on your shoes that become imbedded in carpeting. At least once a year, rent or enlist the surfaces of carpet and upholstery cleaners to give floors a thorough cleaning. You may be surprised at how clean and fresh a home looks and smells once rugs and carpets are deep-cleaned. You also can make a dry carpet cleaner using baking soda, corn starch and desired fresh herbs for fragrance. Sprinkle and then vacuum up after a few hours. • Color-coordinate bookshelves. Group all books with similarly colored covers together for an instant and eye-appealing look. • Simmer some homemade home deodorizer. In a large pot, boil water and some scented herbs, such as rosemary,
citrus rinds, vanilla, or lavender. The aroma will waft through the home, creating a pleasing scent.
• Invest in new window treatments. Lightweight draperies or new blinds or shades can transform the look of a room. Be sure to keep curtains and blinds open during the day to maximize the hours of sunlight. Homeowners can make some simple changes while they’re stuck indoors and reap the benefits when the weather warms up again.

Despite its popularity, April Fool’s Day is not a national holiday. Popular since the 19th century, April Fool’s Day is celebrated by pranksters in Canada, Australia, Brazil, the United States, and parts of Europe.

References to April Fool’s Day can be traced back to as early as the 1500s, but information on its origins is vague and infrequent. The beginnings of April Fool’s day remain something of a mystery, but many throughout history have offered their takes on the holiday for hoaxers. One of the more popular theories suggests that April Fool’s Day sprung up after the French calendar reform in 1564. France moved the start of the year from the end of March to January 1, and those who continued to celebrate the new year in March were the victims of pranks. Pranksters stuck paper fish to the backs of unwitting victims. To this day, Poisson d’Avril, or April Fish, is the term used for April Fool’s Day in France. Other cultures celebrated the new year on or around April 1, including many Romans and Hindus. The timing coincided with the vernal equinox. Spring often heralded the start of the new year. Some have linked April Fool’s Day to the notion of “spring fever.” There may be something about changing from winter to spring to serve as the catalyst of festive, lighthearted celebrations. Today, people all around the world celebrate April Fool’s Day with silly pranks and attempts to convince people to believe in things that are truly ridiculous. Unless one wants to be the victim of a prank, he or she should take things said and done on April 1 with a grain of salt. Nothing is what it seems on April Fool’s Day, and that’s part of the fun of it.

Debunking Myths About Spaying And Neutering
Companion animal overpopulation poses a considerable problem. The Humane Society of the United States says about 2.4 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in American animal shelters each year — about one every 13 seconds. Many of these animals are the offspring of beloved pets or stray cats and dogs who reproduce unchecked. One of the easiest solutions to the pet overpopulation problem is to have pets spayed or neutered. Another solution is for prospective pet owners to adopt pets from a nearby animal shelter — one that handles spaying and neutering for their adoptable animals.

Some cute baskets on the stairs are a great way to keep those stray toys off of the floor. They are easy for the kiddos to reach, and in a handy spot to be carried upstairs and put away .
The spice cupboard is a serious trouble area in many homes. The solution? Cut off the bottoms of empty cereal boxes, or any other small boxes that you are finished with, and then label them using tape and organize your spices in alphabetical order. They’ll be a breeze to find this way, and it’s a quick and simple process when it comes to putting them back after you are finished cooking.

Some Sticky Spots Best Left Unexplored By: Kevin Bennett
Jenny was hard to convince when it came to renovations. Bill decided he’d do some research before he approached her on his plan for new flooring. Jenny had been talking about buying that new house down the street, and Bill had put a bid in, but realized he’d need to get a few thousand more on their current house in order to make the change realistic. They’d have to sell, and in several months. While the house was in good shape, the carpets had seen better days. In fact, the carpet in the basement looked as though it had seen all the days; be they better or worse. Bill remembered removing a dresser that had been in a corner and stepping in something so sticky it pulled his sock off. Faced with the arduous task of cleaning it and ascertaining what it was, or just putting the dresser back, Bill decided some sticky spots are best left unexplored.
the discounts of Carpet Express, the advantage Bill would have in changing properties would be closer to eight thousand. Jenny would have to go for it! So, he brought her in, said: “Now look, I know it’s going to be a little expensive, but in the end we could add near ten grand to this place!”
As bad as the basement was, though, the whole house needed refurbishment. Cats had gotten to the edges of some carpet, other bits were stained—it was a mess. They’d have to move eventually regardless of his bid on the new house. So Bill researched it and found one of the most profitable changes that could be made in the world of flooring was a switch from carpet to wood. While not all rooms in the house would be amenable to such a change, the larger rooms would, and Bill could see the shiny sheen of a textured study even as he thought about it.
Bill counted to three, then: “You know, you’re right. But—but—but! Look at the deals Carpet Express Direct has on hardwood, Liquid Vinyl Plank, Tile, Carpet— honey, I was doing the math on it, shoot; if we diversify a bit, we could tack on an additional twenty grand to this place for just a fraction of the cost.”
His biggest problem was the service he would use, and the cost of individual wooden flooring options. Gillette wasn’t famous for its choice in any market atmosphere. So Bill was pleasantly surprised when he found that Carpet Express Direct of Gillette was not only local, but offered the closest to wholesale-pricing in the northeastern quarter of the state! Doing some quick calculations based on the dining room, basement, living room, and study, Bill figured the cost of reflooring before selling would add at least five thousand dollars to the property; though he wanted to consult an appraiser to be sure. “So?” “So, I just put a bid on the Connelson house down the block, and we need the money.” “You didn’t tell me about putting a bid on the Connelson place!” “But you told me to do that the next time I went by!” “Well I meant for you to do it while I was with you.”
“Let me see,” Jenny said, and pushed Bill out of the way. After a couple clicks she made a sound like a pleased hen, then clucked, “Ooh, look at that Oscar’s Red carpet—only a buck-twenty-five a square foot!”

“Ah, babe, do you really want more carpet?” “I don’t know what I want yet, I’m looking!” Bill nodded, “Tell you what: let me know what you find! There’s a lot of options. While you’re at it, I saw a Saddlehorn Laminate deal for just under two-fifty a square foot.”
Natural gas forced air furnace/AC, natural gas log see-through fireplace. Windows and doors have been updated.
“Ooh, that is nice,” Jenny said. Bill knew the sale was made, and didn’t want to push it; so he eased out of the room. A few months later they ended up several thousand richer on the sale of their old property, and the new owners loved the grain of the wood in the kitchen. Weigh Your Options Regarding Credit And Debit Cards
Credit and debit cards are how many people make their purchases, both big and small. Many people would rather swipe a card at the checkout counter than count cash. These cards offer unmatched convenience and can help keep receipts organized and purchases accountable with minimal effort. But credit cards and debit cards are not perfect. One of the biggest disadvantages to using cards to make all purchases is the tendency to lose track of your spending. When paying with cash, consumers can visibly see the money leaving their pockets and know when that money has run out. Paying by card is an abstract concept that doesn’t become real until bills are received or bank statements are reviewed. Although debit and credit cards are frequently used interchangeably, there are times when one is preferable over the other. Here’s how to decide which card to use. * Need to build credit? Use a credit card if you are trying to establish a positive credit history. However, you must pay your bill in a timely fashion, and it helps to pay the entire balance each and every billing cycle to develop a good credit score. * Don’t want a large monthly bill? Debit
cards withdraw money directly from your account at the moment the transaction occurs. Much like spending with cash, debit cards let users know when they have run out of cash, as cards will be denied if the transaction is not approved. If you do not want to pay a large bill at the end of the month, debit cards are the better choice. * Prefer greater security? Great strides have been made to thwart would-be identity thieves and keep financial data safe. However, as was evidenced by the major data breach in Target’s payment system in late 2013, when millions of credit and debit card numbers and PIN codes were hacked, no system is entirely foolproof. Credit cards offer added security because if fraudulent purchases are made, your credit card account will be quickly frozen and you will not be held accountable. When using debit cards, you are spending your own money up front. Fraudulent purchases may be fixed over time, but it could leave a deficit in your account until matters are resolved. * Want to minimize fees? Debit cards do not charge interest or minimum charge penalties. There’s no need to worry about being late for a payment and getting charged a fee, and causing your balance to skyrocket. Gas stations and other retailers that may charge more per purchase for using credit cards will treat
debit cards like cash and offer the same discounts.
* Enjoy perks? Credit card companies will sell you their card over another based on various perks. In addition to competitive interest rates, perks may include being able to accumulate travel points, cashback dollar amounts, advanced ticketing offers for shows and sporting events, discounts and coupons for certain retailers, and many other benefits. More and more consumers are relying largely on credit cards and debit cards to make their purchases. Each type of card has its benefits and disadvantages, so consumers must weigh their options to determine which type of card works best for them.

Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

A profound sense of smell is one of the many interesting characteristics about dogs. Dogs’ noses secrete a thin layer of mucus to help keep them moist and enable them to absorb scents. Dogs also will frequently lick their noses to sample smells through another sensory organ - their mouths. Dogs’ senses of smell are quite intense. Unlike humans, who have roughly 5 million scent glands, dogs have no less than 125 million and as many as 300 million such glands, depending on the breed. Dogs’ ability to sniff things out is far stronger than humans’. A dog’s nostrils, or nares, can move independently of one another, helping man’s best friend pinpoint the location from which a smell is coming.

New York City’s Central Park was created by famed landscape designer Frederick Law Olmstead, who would no doubt be happy to learn that the park, which Olmstead began working on in the 1850s, is the most visited urban park in the United States. Central Park initially covered 2.5 miles, beginning at 59th Street and extending north to 106th Street (the park now extends to 110th Street), while spanning from Fifth Avenue in the east to Eighth Avenue in the west. Included in Central Park is the 55-acre Great Lawn, which is routinely filled with sun bathers, athletes, picnickers, and just about anyone else looking to do some lounging in one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Over the years, numerous performers, from rockers Bon Jovi to folk singers Simon and Garfunkel to the New York Philharmonic, have staked their claim to the Great Lawn. The Great Lawn even played host to the Global Citizen Festival in the fall of 2015. Hosted by late night host Steven Colbert, the festival showcased world renowned performers such as Beyonce^a and Pearl Jam and even featured addresses from political notables like Vice President Joe Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama. As for the rest of the park, it continues to draw millions of visitors each year, who are attracted to its expansive landscape, neverending activities and, for many, the simple chance to ditch their footwear and lie down in the green grass that is synonymous with the park.

Eat Some Crawfish And B e t t e r Yo u r C o m m u n i t y ! By: Kevin Bennett
Thirty-three years ago, the Society of Petroleum Engineers decided to give back to the Campbell County community, and in a delicious way. Every year in Gillette Wyoming there is a well-known charity event called the SPE Crawfish Boil. For the last thirty-three years, this event has helped raise funds for those in need. Life throws difficult situations at everybody, and every little thing that can be done to help defray those situations should be done. With the SPE Crawfish Boil, not only can you help those in need, but you can have an extremely fun time doing it as you enjoy some of the most delicious food that can be had in Gillette, and the kind of live music that just makes you want to dance! Your money will go to those who require assistance with things like medical bills. Proceeds from this annual event have helped locals keep their heads above water in a fluctuating economic climate for a third of a century, and it’s the ardent hope of the committee who orchestrates this event that it will continue to be a yearly draw building not just the Campbell County Community, but the region’s growing reputation. There’s a lot of ebb and flow in the energy industry, and sometimes hard times can sweep in like a cold north wind. The yearly SPE Crawfish Boil helps people get to the back of that north wind, where it’s not nearly so cold. For those who haven’t had crawfish, it’s an entirely novel experience. These little aquatic insects are called a variety of names, from Crayfish, to
Crawdads, to Crawfish, to Mud-bugs to fresh-water lobsters—which, basically, is what a crawfish is; when you get down to it: a lobster of the inland sea. In the American south there’s a big tradition of crawfish preparation, especially in places like Louisiana and all along the Gulf Coast. This colloquial portion of Americana has a delicious uniqueness about it, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers thought it would be great to bring that uniqueness into windswept Wyoming. As it turns out, Gillette residents do love their crawfish, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers were entirely correct! Local Dave Dorson is the man presiding over the event, and he’s as excited as the community. “All proceeds go to benefit a local charitable medical fund,” says Dave. Dave Dorson runs his own southern delicacy expose at Expresso Lube the third Friday of every month, where Crawfish Etouffee is available to those with a hankering for a delicious, somewhat “exotic” treat. Right now Dave’s got tickets available for the SPE Crawfish Boil at Expresso Lube; call 682-7339 for yours. You can also get tickets just across the way at City Brew, 363-4087; Tool Pushers Supply, 686-6110, and at the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce. The event will take place April 22nd this year, and will be held at the Cam-Plex Events Center of Gillette. Crawfish will be served from 11am to 1pm, and from 4pm until all the little delicacies have been eaten up! Tickets are $25 for adults, and
$5 for kids between four and eleven. Kids under four eat free! To wrap it all up there will be a band playing at five until everyone is plum stuffed with crawdads. And don’t worry! There will definitely be adult beverages available; as well as an entire bevy of additional foods for those that aren’t so interested in trying Crawfish. Says Dave, “There’s also going to be bratwurst, hot dogs, corn, potatoes and onions for those who aren’t interested in Crawfish.” Be sure to get your tickets soon! They can be purchased at the event itself, but if previous years are any indication, they can sell fast! All proceeds benefit the local community, and it’s really a double deal when you think about it. Crawfish are delicious to begin with, and eating your fill is something you can’t always do in Gillette on the spur of the moment. Twentyfive well-seasoned cooks will be preparing some of the most delicious southern delights you’ve ever tasted at the SPE Crawfish Boil this year, and you definitely don’t want to miss out!

10 Rainy Weather Facts
Rainy seasons vary across the globe. In much of North America, spring is when rainfall peaks.
Cherrapunji, in the Indian state of Meghalaya, is credited with being the wettest place on Earth. While many people will never experience the rainfall residents of Cherrapunji have grown accustomed to, they still can expect to see their fair share of precipitation. The next time you reach for your trusty umbrella, give pause and think about these fascinating facts about rain. 1. Many people surmise that the world’s deserts receive the least amount of rain. However, this is not the case. Despite being covered mostly with ice, Antarctica only gets 6.5 inches of rain or snow per year, making it the continent with the lowest annual rainfall. 2. Scientists say that raindrops look more like chocolate chips than teardrops. Larger drops may resemble parachutes. Raindrops also come in many different sizes. The largest drops ever recorded fell in Brazil, where some drops measured as large as 10 mm. 3. It is possible for rain to fall at a velocity of up to 22 miles per hour, according to Explaining Science. 4. Rain has fallen on other planets, but such rain does not have the same chemical composition as the rain that falls on Earth. For example, rain on Venus is made of sulfuric acid. Because of Venus’ proximity to the sun, the rain evaporates even before it reaches the surface of the planet. 5. Acid rain is a type of precipitation that has sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides mixed in. These chemicals are created by factories and power stations. 6. Cloud shapes can help a person predict if rain is likely to fall. Nimbostratus clouds, which are the flat, low-level gray clouds, produce rain. Also, cumulonimbus, the tall, puffy clouds that look flat on top, can be indicators that rain is soon to fall. 7. Rain can take on the hue of particles in the environment. For example, dust or sand particles can mix in, tinting the rain. 8. There is such a thing as phantom rain, and you may not need an umbrella when it’s falling. With phantom rain, the droplets evaporate before they can reach the ground, and it can be difficult to tell if it is raining or not. Phantom rain is common in dessert climates. 9. Due to dissolved nitrogen from the air contained in raindrops, grass and other plants may look greener after a heavy rainfall.

10. “Petrichor” is a term coined in 1964 to describe the pleasant, earthy aroma that occurs following rainfall.
