Don’t Lock your Cat in the Basement. by Kevin Bennett

By Samantha Weaver

Cats are already insane. Studies show that ten out of ten cats have feline schizophrenia, and those numbers are only growing! Everybody’s seen a cat lying supine on the ground, purring and clenching its claws in slit-eyed contentment, only to randomly explode into a flurry of motion for no apparent reason and run headfirst into a wall. Sane creatures do not do this. But as crazy as cats are, sometimes their owners can make them even more bonkers. Say, for example, your old cat Mousebane, a Calico long-hair with a gentle disposition and the mental faculty of an under-intuitive cantaloupe, has been the cock of the walk in your home for a solid ten years. He sleeps where he likes, he hunts where he likes, you’ve even got a little kitty door to keep the mess and odor inside to a minimum. But then the wife gets a new carpet for the living room, and Mousebane has yet to encounter this embroidered interloper! So he must, as is the prerogative of all cats, make a show of walking around it, sniffing it, and finally, when nobody is looking, marking that carpet as his own. This usually doesn’t end well for the carpet or the cat. The carpet has to be deep cleaned, and the cat has to suddenly live only in the basement of the house that has been “his” for the last ten years. So he sets to caterwauling and hissing and spraying in all manner of indecent craziness, and eventually Mousebane has become Man-bane, and all over a new carpet. But you’ve got to get that new carpet!

The old one was defunct before Reagan got into office and always had a strange smell. How do you get a nice new carpet and keep Mousebane from losing any more fries out of his happy meal? You go to Carpet Express Direct of Gillette Wyoming. Carpet Express Direct has all your flooring needs; from hardwood to luxurious carpet, from commercial carpet-tile to living room throw-rugs, it’s there. And with their new line of Bliss-manufactured carpets, you need never worry about pet odors in your house again! Just check out this quote from the website: “For a clean, fresh smelling home, let your carpet do the work with Magic Fresh® odor reducing carpet treatment. It’s completely safe and natural, plus it lasts for the life of your floor. It’s even self-renewing, meaning that it’s continuously working to rid your home of common household smells, like those from pets, cooking and smoking. So how does it work? Well, it’s a lot like how an open box of baking soda absorbs odors in your refrigerator. When they come into contact with Magic Fresh, it breaks down the odor compounds and releases them back into the air as harmless and odorless carbon dioxide.” Yes, with that new Bliss carpet from Carpet Express Direct in your living room, now you and Mousebane can go back to living peacefully with one another. Heck, you can even lay back on that nice new Bliss carpet with a couple fat cigars and reminisce about the old days, when only nine out of ten cats had feline schizophrenia and people still thought shag was a stylish option for the rumpus room. So don’t drive your pets insane! Save the both of you money and aggravation at Carpet Express Direct of Gillette Wyoming today! 1211 S Douglas Hwy, Gillette, WY 82716

Danger: Kids, Dogs Coming to Visit Q. I’m hosting the family over the holidays for the first time in my new home. But I’m a bit stressed as my siblings have kids and there will be a dog visiting. How can I make sure the kids don’t get into my workshop or other danger areas? -- Bill in Utica, N.Y.

But if that’s not possible -- say, it’s in the garage or somewhere everyone accesses -- then remove tools and small items and store them in a box they can’t see through, placed high on a shelf. Ditto with any blades or garden tools -move them out of reach and out of sight. If you have a pool, make sure the winter cover is secure and lock any doors that access the pool. Shekinah Clinical spa has before and after pictures of women treated right here in Gillette. It’s astounding, up to 3 pant sizes lost on some. It’s been proved, right here in Gillette, to smoothen and soften cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, and the abdomen. It can eliminate cellulite, shrink waistlines and restore confidence. Velashape uses a combination of Bi-polar Radiofrequency (RF), Infrared Light Energy, plus Vacuum and Mechanical Massage to deploy targeted heat to adipose tissue. The net result is gradual smoothening of the skin’s surface with a noticeable reduction in cellulite. There is no pill or formula or obtuse exercise regimen; just six easy treatments and astonishing results. You’re not going to need an extra ten hours a week to hit the gym and then the spa; just six short trips to Shekinah, and you get to be yourself again. In a multi-center study done by Velashape, 85% of the treated areas have reported Circumferential Reduction of thighs of at least 1cm; ranging up to 7.2 cm in reduction. Simple Ways To Maintain Your Mental Agility

Many people know that a combination of a healthy diet and routine exercise is the best way to maintain their physical health. But what about mental well-being? Memory lapses are often assumed to be an accepted side effect of aging, but such an assumption is incorrect, as there are many steps men and women can take to maintain their mental acuity well into their golden years.

· Find time for cardiovascular exercise. Cardiovascular exercise can help men and women maintain healthy weights and reduce their risk for potentially deadly ailments like diabetes and heart disease. But cardiovascular exercise can also boost brain power. Cardiovascular exercise pumps oxygen-rich blood to the brain, and that blood contains glucose that can fuel brain cells. Cardiovascular exercise also strengthens blood vessels, which can help prevent potentially devastating diseases, such as stroke, that can have a lasting and negative impact on cognitive function.

· Find time for friends and family. Many people need no reason to socialize, but those that do can now cite boosting brain function as a great reason to get together with family and friends. Routine socialization can keep a brain sharp by reducing its levels of cortisol, a potentially destructive hormone brought on by stress. Researchers also believe that routine interaction with other people stimulates structures in the brain’s frontal lobe that are likely responsible for planning, decision making and response control.

the study, researchers divided participants into three groups: people who would stay awake for 60 minutes; people who would sleep for six minutes; and people who would sleep for 30 to 45 minutes. After the hour was up, participants were given a word recall test, and those who slept performed better on the test than those who hadn’t. But the development that was perhaps most interesting was that those who slept for just six minutes performed just as well on the test as those who slept for far longer, leading researchers to suggest that men and women need not take long naps to improve their memories. · Include fish in your diet. A study from researchers at Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center found that people who eat fish once per week have a 60 percent lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease than those who do not include fish in their weekly diets. Researchers credit this lower risk to DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that is found in both the brain and in fish such as salmon and tuna.

· Squeeze in a nap every so often. Naps can have a reenergizing effect on men and women, but a study from German researchers also found that naps can improve memory. In

The potential danger of a power outage only escalates when one happens during the winter. It is relatively easy to recover from a shortterm loss of power, but extensive power outages can compromise human health and safety. Relatively recent storms such as Hurricane Sandy illustrated just how challenging it can be for people to go without power, particularly today, when many people have grown accustomed to having everything available at the flick of a switch. Heavy, wet snow can weigh down power lines or cause branches to break and damage electric cables. Poor road conditions can make it challenging for power company crews to arrive in affected areas and make repairs, which can lead to prolonged power outages. Men and women must prepare for blackouts at any time of the year, but especially so when the temperatures dip. Here’s how to prepare for an extended power outage.

pump to work. If you have a backup generator, you may be able to plug in a space heater to warm one room in the house. Otherwise, a fireplace can provide some heat. If you do not have power and no other heating source, make arrangements to leave your home and stay with relatives or friends.

Remember, during a power outage you may not have computer access, and your mobile phone will only last as long as your next charge. Keep physical documents handy in case you need to leave home or contact service providers. · Create extra insulation. Use plastic on windows to keep out some of the chill. Wrap pipes with newspapers or insulation to help safeguard against freezing. Block drafts at the bottom of doors by using a door sock or rolled up towel. Keep the entire family in one room to maximize body heat. · Dress appropriately for the cold. Wear layers to keep warm and pay attention to your extremities, which are most susceptible to frostbite. Watch for signs of hypothermia such as uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, incoherence, slurred speech, drowsiness, and apparent exhaustion. · Don’t overlook entertainment. Keep books, puzzles, arts and craft supplies, cards, and board games on hand. Invite friends over to quell the boredom. · Have an evacuation plan in place. Know where you will go if you cannot stay in your home. Find out if a friend or family member has room for you. Hotels and motels are another option, but they may be booked during an outage. Power outages can occur at any time but are especially common when snow and ice accumulates. Preparing for such outages in advance is paramount to your health and safety.

Until Next Time: Tips To Pack Your Holiday Decorations Soon it will be time to bid farewell to another holiday season. By now the gifts have been unwrapped and the last of the turkey leftovers are long gone. The only task that remains is to put away all of those holiday decorations that have been decking the halls since Thanksgiving.

another use for them. Choose bins of various sizes and don’t be afraid to use takeout containers, which can hold smaller items and be stacked inside of larger bins to keep everything neat and organized. Zip-top storage bags are also handy for ornament hooks and other small trinkets.

Although packing holiday decorations may not be a favorite task, the following strategies can save both time and effort.

picture window decorations in one bin and label thusly. Continue to store decorations according to the room where they are hung. Items that are used strictly for outdoors can be grouped together and stored in the garage. · Use a giftwrap organizer. Underthe-bed storage containers are ideal for storing gift wrap and assorted accessories. You also can use a hanging shoe organizer to store bows, tape and name tags. Wrapping paper rolls also can be stored horizontally over rafters in the attic or garage.

· Find cushioning material. Fragile ornaments will need to be packed in some sort of soft wrapping to prevent breakage. Tissue paper, newspaper, old dish towels, and even faux polyester “snow” can be used to line bins and boxes. Label accordingly so you can isolate the breakable items.

· Get motivated. The first supply you need when putting holiday decorations away is a healthy dose of motivation. It’s easy to put off the taking down of lights or rolling up of holiday garlands, but the earlier you start the more quickly you can move on from the holiday season. Plan a day when you can pack away decorations, and do not schedule anything else for that day. · Purchase storage bins. Stock up on storage bins as they go on sale. Even if you end up with extra bins you ultimately don’t need to store holiday decorations, you will no doubt find

· Start with the tree. If you have a live tree, this should be the first item you remove. The longer the tree dries out, the bigger the mess it creates. Take down the lights and spool onto an empty paper towel tube or package into individual plastic bags to avoid knots and kinks. Thread a tree bag over the top of the empty tree and scoop around the bottom to contain as many pine needles as possible. Drag the tree outdoors and dispose or recycle according to neighborhood collection guidelines. Vacuum up any fallen needles. If you have an artificial tree, take the same steps, but store the tree away for next year. · Divide your home up into quadrants. You likely use the same decorations in the same places each year. To make decorating easier next year, dismantle holiday displays and pack them up according to specific areas of the home. For example, store all

· Be especially careful with candles. Pack candles separately from other items, as candles must be kept in a relatively cool area so they do not melt when temperatures rise. · Keep an empty bin handy. Use this bin to store any gifts or decorations you buy throughout the year. This way you won’t forget where you stashed them.

2014 What a great year it’s been. Do we lean towards a seller’s market? And what will 2015 bring? The market has continued to appreciate in all areas. Residentially we have continued to see house prices go up. Currently we are about 5% above last year’s average sales price. Residential sales have shown sharp increases in 2 areas, total volume and the average sales price. You can see our average sales price is up over $10,000 vs. this time last year. The market has steadily increased throughout the year. We are down in the total number of new listings and with the law of supply and demand as inventory drops prices will increase and demand rises. Interest rates have remained steady hovering right around 4.0%. You can also see the percent of sales price to list price is also up, meaning sellers are getting closer to the list price but still have to be a bit negotiable. We still see it a very common practice for seller’s to pay a portion or all of the buyer’s closing costs as part of the purchase price. The commercial market has seen an increase in the number of sales. This would also include industrial buildings which is a good sign and typical for a boom in our area. The days on market has decreased and it’s mainly due to

some buildings selling quickly as the market gets better. One area of particular interest is the rental market. The current vacancy rate is .7% (yes less than 1 out of 100 apartments being available). As it has picked up it will drive homes sales as rental rates begin to rise and the public realizing it may be cheaper to buy then rent! Obviously From the data and numbers, the Gillette market is healthy and appears as if it will continue to grow and move in a positive direction. However with the price of oil dropping lately there is some uncertainty in the market for 2015. Although the drop in prices at the pump are nice, we here around Gillette would rather pay a little more if oil prices stayed up. Gillette could be in for a very nice 2015 if oil prices stabilize a bit.

Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

Make morning workouts work for YOU

Many men and women struggle to find time to exercise. If hectic schedules dominated by professional and personal commitments have made it difficult to make exercise part of your daily routine, you might want to consider skipping the snooze button so you can work out in the early morning hours.

· Make sleep a priority. Prioritizing sleep makes it easier to get out of bed in the morning, when you will face the daily temptation to hit the snooze button and roll over. Can Beer Boost Brainpower?

A chemical component in beer hops has been shown to improve brain function in lab mice. It may one day help with agerelative cognitive decline. There is newfound reason to indulge in a pint or two of your favorite beer, and it’s not just to catch up and share a few laughs with friends. New research has shown that a chemical compound in beer may be able to improve cognitive function. The beverage once thought to obliterate brain cells when consumed in abundance may actually have the opposite effect and boost brain power.

No one should run out an start imbibing just yet, however. The study that ran in Behavioral Brain Research in October 2014 was preliminary and only conducted on lab mice. During the study, scientists discovered that xanthohumol, a type of flavonoid found in beer, seemed to improve brain function in the young mice given xanthohumol doses. The cognitive flexibility of the mice was tested with a specially designed maze, and younger mice showed signs of intellectual improvement. Older mice showed no improvements. Researchers believe xanthohumol and other flavonoids, such

as those found in red wine, blueberries and dark chocolate, may play a role in helping a person form memories.

The mice were given very high doses of the flavonoid. A person would have to drink roughly 2,000 liters of beer a day to equal what the mice consumed to show improvement. However, should a supplement hit the market down the road, it may just be possible for men and women to consume a potentially beneficial amount of xanthohumol without bellying up at the bar. One of the goals of the xanthohumol study was to examine its potential efficacy at treating age-related deficits in memory. Xanthohumol also may benefit those with metabolic syndrome, a condition associated with obesity and high blood pressure, as it can speed metabolism and reduce fatty acids in the liver.

often found in the hops commonly used to make beer. While doctors and researchers do not suggest running out and consuming a few six packs right now in the goal of improving brain function and cramming for that next test, xanthohumol may one day be harvested from beer hops to slow down age-related memory deficits.

“New research has shown that a chemical compound in beer may be able to improve cognitive function.”

Flavonoids are plant compounds that often provide plants with their color. Scientists have attributed many health benefits to flavonoids in foods and plants and have even suggested flavonoids can help in the fight against cancer and heart disease. Xanthohumol is rare and is most

Using E-cigarettes to quit smoking

Electronic Cigarette

Quitting smoking and losing weight consistently top New Year’s resolutions lists. In an effort to stop smoking, a growing number of smokers are turning to electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, to help them quit once and for all. Although e-cigarettes are not currently regulated, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is weighing regulations in a market that estimates suggest could be as big as $5 billion in 2015. But are these devices safe? Or even effective? There is mixed information regarding the efficacy of e-cigarettes to help a person quit smoking. Some studies point to e-cigarettes as a good method of smoking cessation, while others say there’s limited evidence to support those claims. E-cigarettes typically contain liquid nicotine, which is inhaled as vapor. The vapor resembles smoke and can mimic the look and feel of smoking traditional cigarettes. But e-cigarettes typically do not contain any of the additional chemicals, such as tar and other potentially toxic ingredients, found in traditional cigarettes. Nicotine cartridges for e-cigarettes also come in various concentrations and flavors, and smokers can even purchase nicotine-free replacement cartridges.

“Much like users of nicotine patches or chewers of nicotine gum, e-cigarette smokers can gradually lower their nicotine doses over time.” Much like users of nicotine patches or chewers of nicotine gum, e-cigarette smokers can gradually lower

their nicotine doses over time. The American Lung Association currently has not approved any ecigarette as a safe or effective method to help smokers quit. They cite a study that estimates there are nearly 500 different e-cigarette brands today with varying levels of nicotine and the possible presence of other chemicals. These e-cigarettes are unregulated. The ALA says there is a great deal more to learn about these products before they can be recommended as a safe and effective way for smokers to wean themselves off of smoking.

nicotine and flavoring.* Most of this kind of E-liquid is made privately by a small company. While some organizations do not endorse e-cigarettes, others state that they shouldn’t be ruled out just yet. A 2014 study by British researchers that was published in the journal Addiction found

The American Heart Association agrees. In a policy statement released in August 2014, the American Heart Association said physicians shouldn’t discourage e-cigarette use as a last resort to stop smoking.

Users of this method may refer to their activity as “Vaping.” These Ecig “Mods” are compromised usually of a Tank, rechargable battery, and atomizer wick. E-liquid is bought separately in desired nicotine level and flavor, and then poured into the tank. This option can offer not only a smoking cessation method, but a new hobby for many users. Especially since the user of this method knows what ingredients are in their E-liquid. This customizable form of E-liquid is typically comprised of four main ingredients: water, propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG),

“If people cannot quit at all and have tried everything in the field, we would not discourage them,” said Aruni Bhatnager, the statement’s lead writer. “It’s not something we would suggest.” The AHA recommends e-cigarettes only if smokers refuse or are intolerant of other options. People who desire to quit smoking may look to e-cigarettes to help their fight. Although the safety and efficacy of e-cigarettes remains open to debate, cannot be proven, many former smokers feel e-cigarettes played a significant role in helping them to quit smoking once and for all. *www.v2cigs.com/blog/2013/09/whats-in-your-e-liquid/

The stuffy nose, aches and pains that often accompany the common cold can leave sufferers feeling miserable for a week or more. Cold season seems to kick into high gear when the temperatures drop, but this can be the year you don’t come down with a case of the sniffles. The following cold prevention tips can increase your chances of making it to spring without losing any days or sleep to the common cold.

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. If you are well, keep your hands away from your mouth, nose and eyes. Viruses are especially good at entering the body through the mucus membranes located in these areas of the body. A combination of frequent handwashing and avoiding touching your face can keep colds at bay.

· Go outdoors and get some fresh air. It’s a myth that cold air will bring on a cold. In reality, being outside instead of congregating indoors with other sick peopleMap may decrease page adyour risk of getting a cold. Don’t be afraid to go outside when the temperatures drop for fear of getting sick. Fresh air and exercise can be good for you.

· Drink plenty of fluids. Keeping your body hydrated will help flush toxins out of your body, strengthening your immune system and making it more capable of fending off colds. · Keep your distance. Did you know the cold virus can be shot up to three feet away when someone sneezes? The virus travels on the small droplets of

· Maintain your exercise routine. Regular exercise can boost the body’s immune system and help it to fend off foreign invaders, including the cold virus. A recent study found that taking vitamin C in addition to daily exercise can reduce your risk of cold and cut the duration of the cold should you get one. saliva and mucus that get propelled from the nose and mouth of a sick individual. If you know someone is sick, stay as far away as possible and wash your hands frequently, paying special attention to your fingertips. · Wipe down surfaces. The cold virus can live on surfaces for up to 24 hours. That means a sick person can easily transfer a virus by touching a computer keyboard or remote control he or she shares with others. Use disinfecting wipes or warm, soapy water to clean off doorknobs, telephones, light switches, cabinet handles, and anything that is frequently touched around a home or business. · Let it out gently. Blowing your nose forcefully or pinching your nose to hold back sneezes can irritate nasal

· Recognize that antibiotics are not the answer. Antibiotics are only effective at treating bacterial infections, not viruses, which means they are ineffective at fighting the cold virus.

· If you do get sick, play it smart. Should you succumb to a cold in spite of your best efforts, steer clear of others so you are not spreading the virus. Rest and fuel your body with healthy foods and beverages. There’s no need to visit a doctor for a cold unless you have a fever after several days of being sick. Colds normally last between seven and 10 days. If your symptoms do not improve or if they seem to be worsening, visit your doctor.

Headliner

Featuring Jersey Steve Originally from NJ, now lives in South Dakota. A radio personality on the #1 Radio show in South Dakota XROCK MORNING WOOD. You can hear him by going to www.xrock. fm. You can also catch him on Sturgis Rider TV and on YouTube for the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. Or of course, you could just go ahead and

come to the show.

Spencer James’s comedy career started very early on, namely as an eleven year old fat kid getting picked on by school bullies while also being ignored by seemingly every girl in his vicinity. Spencer holds the 2014 Winner title of The World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has gritted his comedy teeth on bars and comedy clubs across America. Including performances for the fisherman of Dutch Harbor, AK, made famous by the hit TV show “Deadliest Catch,” Laughs TV features on Fox TV, and also for American troops stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI.

Hosted By French Accent

Spencer currently resides in Denver, CO, where beautiful women abound, but as a former fat kid he finds it difficult to relate to them, unless it involves complaining about clothes that just never seem to fit properly.

Accordion Playing Comedian...

His show is mainly his warped reactions to first time relationships, a result of a sort of “fat kid syndrome” he’s had throughout his adult life, and how now he’s taking the Ugly Duckling persona to the stage. He believes he’s sensitive to a woman’s needs, but, due to many past failures, he also somehow winds up saying the most insensitive thing at the worst possible moment. Why does this happen?

See you at the show!

Guess you’ll find out at the show.

‘nuff said.

An artistic Master casually produces masterpieces everyday for free… have you heard of him? HIs power can make your life a Masterpiece too!

Psalm 19:1-6 , the Message

God’s glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame Day holds classes every morning, Professor Night lectures each evening. Their words aren’t heard, their voices aren’t recorded, But their silence fills the earth: unspoken truth is spoken everywhere. God makes a huge dome for the sun - a superdome! The morning sun’s a new husband leaping from his honeymoon bed, The daybreaking sun an athlete racing to the tape. That’s how God’s Word vaults across the skies from sunrise to sunset, Melting ice, scorching deserts, warming hearts to faith.
