For Christmas 2015, we introduce you to House of Hackney x William Morris. When we were approached by the William Morris Gallery to reimagine his works for a new generation, we jumped at the chance to breathe new life into his iconic archive. William Morris was a big inspiration to us when we founded House of Hackney almost five years ago, not only for his refreshing non-conformist design approach (like us he was a bit of an interiors punk and rebelled against traditional interiors), but also because of our shared values. His principle of coupling beautiful design with a social conscience was a key inspiration in the founding of our own brand, and we are privileged to have been allowed access to his spectacular archive, bringing his works to a new audience. Morris was inspired by the natural world and his work was based upon sustainability, using locally produced materials and respect for the natural environment. Since its inception, wherever possible House of Hackney has used small scale, skilled British manufacturers to bring our designs to life. Made in England is a key part of the ethos of House of Hackney. This Christmas in Morris’ words “have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”.
