Cakes There’s more to ordering a wedding cake than you may think and Wedding Cake 101 with some suppliers booked up years in advance (especially at the moment) it’s best to get started in plenty of time!
With 2022 weddings looking busier than ever and wedding cake designers needing time to source the materials they need for your masterpiece, you should think about ordering at least six months before your wedding date. First up, though, decide roughly how much you want to spend (imagine they created the most beautiful design you simply couldn’t afford?) and make sure you’ve already settled on your major wedding style decisions – you may want your cake to complement your venue, the season, the flowers or even your menu. Think about the practicalities, too. Generally, three tiers will serve 50-100 people and you’d be looking at five for 200 plus. If you’re hosting in a grand ballroom you’ll want height ,so how about columns between the tiers, or an artificial layer to add grandeur? Your trusty supplier, of course, will keep you right. Speaking of which, always try to meet your potential cake creator face-to-face so you get a real feel for their experience, ideas and personality – are they the right fit for you? They’ll be able to show you a portfolio of previous work, plus testimonials and – the best bit – some samples! If you don’t know where to start, you’ll be in the best place. Looking at their work together, you can highlight what you like or don’t like and, from there, they can start to sketch out what your dream cake might look like. An experienced supplier will go over the practicalities with you, too. Think delivery, setup times, on-the-day requirements (they might need to add some finishing touches!) and postwedding storage. Find out how long it’ll last and whether or not you can freeze it. Wouldn’t some wedding cake be a delicious post honeymoon treat!? ♥
