Grooms Celeb Groom Style

Whilst we’re Highlandwearobsessed here at GWD (we have simply the best local kilt suppliers in the northeast!) we know suiting is set to be big this season. Handily, the experts at Slater Menswear have done some digging into how grooms can dress like 2022’s most iconic male celebrities…

Putting a celeb spin on suiting, the team at Slater Menswear have been busy researching which suited male celebrities people wanted to dress like for formal occasions like weddings. Irish professional mixed martial artist Conor McGregor took the top spot (with a huge 17,000 Google searches for ‘Conor McGregor suits’!), followed by US actor Chris Evans and footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth and rapper Drake ranked highly, whilst big screen names Brad Pitt, Ryan Reynolds and Leonardo DiCaprio, and basketballer LeBron James, also made the top ten. So, without further ado, here are some highlights from the Slater style guide for those hoping to nail some of these sought-after wedding day looks…

Conor McGregor

To get his slick, modern look, go for a skinny fit navy-blue suit (two- or threepiece depending on how formal you want to go) with a textured pink silk tie. The deep hues of the suit and pop of colour from the tie will guarantee a totally dapper look.

Chris Evans

Nothing says well-dressed like a classic black suit and tie combo. A nod to the true gentleman, pull together this effortlessly elegant look by pairing a two-piece suit with a plain, woven black tie.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Style up in a slick black tuxedo with a black bow tie and black patent square toe dress shoe. Bold enough to make a statement yet still crisp and well-presented, you’ll stand out in classic style.

Chris Hemsworth

Steal Chris’ look from the 2018 GQ Men of the Year Awards – a two-piece blue suit with a plain white pocket square. You’ll create a streamlined silhouette and really stand out.

Drake

Sleek, sophisticated and oh-so-bold, Drake’s white-on-black tuxedo from the 2017 NBA Awards is well-worth replicating. Combine a cream tailored dinner jacket with a crisp white dinner shirt and tailored-fit trousers then finish off with a brilliant bow tie.

Brad Pitt

For timeless style coupled with bold tailoring, match Brad’s go-to style with a slim-fit threepiece dinner suit in charcoal and, of course, a black bow tie.

Ryan Reynolds

This heartthrob isn’t one to shy away from being a bit different so if you’re not feeling the classic, dark suit, go for a rich pop of colour. How about a slim-fit three-piece suit in burgundy – and a plain, woven tie to add a dash of contrasting colour?

Leonardo DiCaprio

Often the king of casual at red carpet events, Leonardo DiCaprio loves a blazer and shirt combo – with the top buttons undone. Try a single-breasted blazer over a slim fit, double cuff, long sleeve shirt to achieve a classic yet relaxed look.

LeBron James

Known for staying away from the classic black suit and bow tie look, LeBron often opts for a grey suit (with shorts instead of trousers!) finished with a pair of black boots. If you want to catch the eye at the top of the aisle, source a slim-fit three-piece suit in grey and add polished leather Chelsea boots.

Suit shopping tips

Armed with celeb style inspo, you’re ready to hit the shops – almost! Just take heed of these top tips first… 1. Start planning your suit selection around three months before the wedding (and no later than four weeks before the big day) to make sure you get what you’re after and have time for alterations if needed.

2. Shortlist your options based on the season and your wedding theme. Is it likely to be hot or cold? Light well into the evening or dark by mid-afternoon? Will there be a formal or relaxed vibe? Bold carnival colours or pretty pastels? These factors can all massively influence what you wear! 3. Consider the wedding party, too. Would you like everyone to match? Do you want to look completely different? Or would you like something in between – a tie or pair of shoes that set you apart as the man of the moment? Big wedding party? Get started ASAP to make sure everyone can be catered for.
