Flowers Flower Fashions Whilst sustainability is a key consideration for many couples choosing their wedding flowers in 2022 (check out networks like Flowers from the Farm where you can find seasonal, scented and sustainable British cut flowers in your local area) there are other key trends, too. Here’s what we predict for the year ahead…

Colour blocking

This year, opposites attract – and it’s all about being bright and bold. Whilst pastel florals will always have their place in the wedding world, we’re likely to see daring and beautiful colours complementing soft bridal gowns to make a real statement in 2022. Bold yellows (said to symbolise happiness and warmth) complemented by dark chocolate browns are expected to be a highly desired look this year.

Nature-inspired designs

Besides conjuring up innovative and striking designs, working with nature is key for many florists – and they take inspiration from spending time in nature. More natural, organic designs are becoming increasingly popular with couples embracing the fact that flowers don’t always grow into a perfect shape as expected – rather they grow in various directions and that’s what makes them beautiful. Go for organically arranged floral centrepieces for a cool, artistic vibe in your wedding room.

Seasonal blooms for sequel weddings

A pandemic-induced trend, the sequel wedding allows couples the chance to have more than one celebration – a small registry-style gathering in the winter then a summer date for a larger celebration, for example. This means you can enjoy seasonal blooms for each gathering – focus on foliage for your winter nuptials and go big with sunflowers or dahlias come summertime.

Sustainability

Last but certainly not least, going green with flowers is refreshingly high on the 2022 wedding agenda. Eco-aware to-be-weds are realising that sourcing out of season flowers, such as peonies in the winter, involves importing them thousands of miles… And leaving an awfully big carbon footprint! Instead, go ultra-sustainable with dried or artificial options or, if fresh flowers are your dream, go local and seasonal. Scotland’s changing seasons give you lots of options to choose from and if you’re lucky, you may even be able to request something specific to be grown for your wedding. Discuss with your florist what’ll be in season locally when you’re getting married and remember to think about the finishing touches too. Avoid floral foam, and bleached or dyed items, opting instead for more environmentally-friendly ways to construct your floral archways and pillars – moss, wire and willow, perhaps? Of course, your florist will know best! ♥
